A specialist wood carving carpenter making a handle and sheath for a decorative golok machete. This wood shop is just around the corner from the AMW blacksmiths seen in Part 1. This is part 2 of the series, "Blacksmiths making Goloks in Central Java." Originally it was meant to be only 2 videos, but due to the larger file size, we have had to break this up into 3 separate videos. Our next upload will be back at the AMW shop and will focus on the detailed decoration of the sheath and tiger head handle. Golok is the Indonesian work for machete. “Pandai besi” means blacksmith. We have many more blacksmith knife making videos at Bush Channel.
The address of the AMW blacksmith is Karangasem Village, Bantul, near Yogyakarta City. The English speaking guide at 1:16 is Christian from Vogels Hostel. Vogels is a highly recommended place to stay in the mountain village of Kaliurang on the slopes of Mt Merapi. Christian and his nephew Aldrin own Vogels. You'll see Aldrin in Part 1 of the series.
We have other golok videos coming soon!
