When drilling into masonry, always use (1) a masonry bit, and (2) a hammer drill. These are requirements unless one enjoys destroying drill bits.

How did she like it? Is she still using it now that's it's been a couple years? Did you add any kind of grip tape to the rail? My only concern would be the rail getting super hot when the sun's beating on it.

MAN! All you had to do was SHARPEN the tip of the bit and BOOM! Would've worked like new. lol The tip is the cutting part. The spirals just help lift out the shavings. MONEY GONE!!! lol
