Making Hay For The First Time. What Could Go Wrong?

We are cutting hay for the first time and it's an adventure in repair work. I never thought we would be making our own hay, but here we are. Thanks to the generosity of our friends and neighbors we get to experience the joys of hay making and figure out if it's something we want to pursue and what kind of equipment we'd like to have someday.
Our next door neighbor is letting us use his LS MT3 57 hp Tractor with the LL4106 Loader and our good friends down the road at Mastodon Valley Farm were willing to loan us their CASE 8330 Haybine mower conditioner and a hay rake. We'll be hiring another neighbor to custom bale for us. Of course the animal chores never end. It's time to separate the rams into the ram mobile and we brought all the Sheep, Goats, Dexter Heifers, Llama and the Livestock Guardian Dogs up to the barnyard so, if I ever finish fixing hay equipment and making the hay, we need to run all the sheep through our handling system to do health checks, band the ram lambs and tag the last few lambs that we didn't get while we could still catch them out on pasture.

Hi Nicky and Joe, my daughter in law, Hootie recommended that I watch your you tube channel. I watch several sheepy podcasts. I’m a knitter and spinner. We used to have a 4H lease program with sheep, goats and cows. At home we raised Holland Lop rabbits. Cindy is my daughter. I’m curious, what kind of sheep do you have? Hootie said they were haired sheep. They look like Shetland sheep to me. She also said you have fainting goats. They were fun to watch at a goat show. They would faint when they got startled. I have subscribed to your channel. Nice job!

Thanks for subscribing! We really enjoyed meeting Cindy last week. Our sheep are indeed hair sheep so we don't have to shear them as the shed in the warm weather. They are a cross of Katahdin, Barbados, and Dall sheep. We have 7 fainting goats and the rest are Spanish, Boer or a cross of the two.

I can't complain. We got 54 beautiful dry bales done today so I guess a lot went right after we worked through the mechanical issues.
