Cutting, raking and baling hay on our farm using our Farmall Cub 22 mower and New Holland Workmaster 40 tractor with International 14 side delivery rake. Music: Apple iMovie River Walk and Campfire
I grew up driving a 1948 Cub. Dad got it for me to cut this 5 acre place with the 4' belly bush hog. Great to see this one. Lots of memories. Miss ya Dad. !
Hi! The Farmall Cub tractor...my first car...no fooling. I bought the 49th one produced...a 1947...according to the local International dealer. I needed it for mowing large yards, but it came with a large amount of attachments, such as a plow, cultivator, snow plow, etc. Had my first date to the Drive-In movies on it...she had a fun time driving it. Once I got used to how to attach and work the implements, I found work helping farmers and home owners with cultivating or plowing for a garden. It was a really good little tractor. Sold it before joining the Navy...foolish...wish I had kept it.
Oh man, I have a 49 farmall cub & the side sycle bar mower. Same thing. Although I do have goats, very picky eaters I think the field is garbage. Just want to cut it to maintain it. Very helpful video thanks.
In our area, a lot of farmers will use a tedder a few days after mowing to turn the hay over to ensure it's good and dry. I was in the fire department and more than once we got called to a barn on fire when the hay wasn't completely dry and spontaneously combusted.
I don’t know it there is even a Tedder in our county! Haha! We’re very blessed (at least for haymaking) to have extremely hot and low humidity summers. Most farmers just swath it and then bale it. Never seen anyone use a Tedder around here. We like to rake it once to at least get the hay turned over. Thanks for watching!
You don't often see farmers using the sickle bar mower anymore . Around here it's only used to cut weeds along the lanes or field roads and near the farm buildings. The sickle bar mower we had used a wheel to power it and was pulled behind the tractor.
john kendall there are a few of us around here that still use sicklebars. It’s dry enough here you can get by without conditioning the hay. I do have an old IH #9 ground-drive mower I plan to restore someday to use behind horses. Thanks for watching!
@@vnthomas16 ours might have been converted from being horse driven I'm not sure who made it. I do remember a lot of equipment was converted and either ran off a ground wheel or had it's own small engine We even used a machine to shuck corn off the cob that ran off of a belt on the side of the tractor. LOL no combine . I can't remember when the last time I saw a corn picker being used.
Great video! I use to have a sickle bar mower, and actually kind of miss it. The drum mower I have is great, but it doesn't make that cool sound! Lol. Best of luck this hay season! It is upon us
Denny's Country Life Thanks! I really like sickle bar mowers. I also really like the mid-mount so I don’t have to crane my neck looking over my shoulder all the time!
Hey Chris, if ya want I could sickel mow some of you hay fields, I've always wanted to actually see about using it for mowing. Lol, I think we have the same taste of videos, almost every other video I watch, I see your comment 😁😁
Your Cub should be able to handle the rake too if it's a ground powered rake. If your Cub uses less fuel than the New Holland that'll save you some gas.
You are correct! We have used our Cub to pull the hay rake, but often pull it with the New Holland because it has a more comfortable seat for the long hours raking! Thanks for watching.
