I'm working on an experimental Oil infusion. I mixed (Organic Unrefined Cold Pressed Oils) Avocado, Seasame, Olive, Castor, Coconut, Mango Butter, and Shea Butter and a bunch of Ayurvedic Herbs. I'm doing a 72 hour low heat infusion with a consistent temperature range of about 140-150 in the middle and so far its infusing better than I could have imagined.. My particular multi-cooker keeps it at a perfect 140-150 F range when its uncoverd on slow cook mode. Sheabutter can withstand up to 175 before it starts to oxidize so a consistant steady 140-150 seems to be a sweet spot for my particular oil blend infusion. Every few hours its slowy infusing love this herbal stuff. 😄

I give you a few options on how to deal with the water content. I've been making fresh herb oils for years so it can totally be done! I love and agree with what you say about the potency of using fresh rather than dried herbs, but what I'm wondering is how can water evaporate off? I thought water always sunk to the bottom and the oil would create a surface barrier?
@SpiraeaHerbs
@SpiraeaHerbs Год назад
Yes at room temperature, but if you gently heat I have found that the water, for the most part, does evaporate off. There will always be a bit left over, which I then carefully decant the oil off, leaving the water at the bottom. Hope that makes sense.

I watched your video on how to make a thyme and oregano elixir can you make the same thing in an infused oil if so could you let me know exactly how to do that I would most likely be using fresh herbs and since you said this was not your preferred method do you have a video or something else on the method that you would like to use or do use also I would like your opinion on how to use that infused oil if I can make it that way I’ve been researching oregano oil and it interests me very much as to all the benefits that it has
@SpiraeaHerbs
@SpiraeaHerbs 2 года назад
Hi Scott! Thanks for watching my video and for your comment. I believe I made herbal infused oil from fresh St. John's Wort in the summer. Here is the video on that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L2eNUfGBCnE.html Now the Oregano oil you are likely doing research on is not a herbal infused oil but instead an essential oil. However, your research would have to clarify that. I personally find Oil of Oregano to be too strong for most people causing issues with the gasto-intestinal tract including disturbing their gut flora. The kind of oil you would be making would be excellent for internal consumption and could be used as salad dressings etc. Anything you would use a food oil for really. Hope that helps!

Thank you! I am making a fresh plantain and yarrow infusion with avocado oil, I'm trying it in the dehydrator. Since I also have some herbs in there that I'm drying I have it set at 100. I was thinking it would be a good way to help some of the water to evaporate while keeping the integrity of the herbs, Once I take the dehydrated herbs out, what temp do you think I should turn the dehydrator to to expedite the infusion?

I honestly have no idea. Whatever would be comparable to the warm setting on a slow cooker I think. Good luck and report back on how it worked!

Do you strain it off after it’s infused or leave the herbs in the oil?
@SpiraeaHerbs
@SpiraeaHerbs 2 года назад
If I need the oil to make something else (a salve, face oil, body oil etc.) I will strain the herbs out right away. If the herbs are dried and I do not need them right away I will just leave them in the jar. IF I am using fresh herbs, I always strain them out after 4-6 weeks regardless if I need the oil or not to ensure my oil doesn't go rancid or moldy. Hope that helps!
@djjay-kay7636
@djjay-kay7636 3 месяца назад
@@SpiraeaHerbs so I gather it's ok to gently heat infuse the herbal oil and let it sit and infuse for a few weeks before straining it without risk of the oil going rancid... Great video, very interested in what you do. Subscribed❤

Can I use a rice cooker to warm it
@SpiraeaHerbs
@SpiraeaHerbs 5 месяцев назад
I have never used one before so I am uncertain about the temperatures it reaches. What I would do if I were you is I would look at the manual for your rice cooker and see what temps it reaches. If they are similar to a warm function (NOT low... that's too hot) on an instant pot or crockpot, I say go for it.

@SpiraeaHerbs

Choosing your oils would more have to do with the end product you have in mind. For example, for a face oil, I would not want to use something heavy like olive oil. Whereas that might work just fine for salves. Hope that helps!
