In today's vlog, we're making homemade herbal soap! It's melt and pour, but still - we're making it. I'm using lavender essential oil, lavender flowers, a glycerin soap base, and my beautiful new mica powder. It turned out so much better than I ever thought! I hope this video will show you how easy it is to make your own natural soap at home with just a few ingredients. Thank you for hanging out with me!

My mom is really into making soap and she sells it at local vendors! She makes goatsmilk soap and uses mica powder! It's her favorite for coloring! I think it's so pretty once you start stirring it - my favorite is green. I've made a lot of soap in my lifetime, this brought up a bunch of memories 😆

Just so you know, our government website about Covid here in the Netherlands states you can test positive for up to eight(!) weeks. But that doesn't mean you're actually still infected. Don't wait for a negative test. It's all about being symptom free. When you're symptom free for at least 24 hours, you are no longer contagious. It even states that it is more likely to still test positive from this infection after eight weeks, then it is to be infected a second time. Look into it, I'd hate for you to be waiting for a negative test.

this is so neat! my mum also sorta? taught me to "make soap"... and by that I mean she fills a foaming handsoap bottle with a dribble of dishsoap then drowns it in water to save her from buying a new bottle from the dollar store.. on the bright side for the waiting for products, you could plan a livestream for say.. making lipstick and we could clear a spot in our schedules with good notice!

Wow I looooove the idea of making soap as a hobby… I buy way too much soap bc I really enjoy it for some reason, but this seems WAY more gratifying than just buying bottles of soap. I also completely agree with your mentality on instant gratification… I’ve been working on getting over that “I need it NOW!” mind state bc as I’m getting older it feels really nice to just take it easy and enjoy life at a slower pace. My man ordered something on Amazon the other day and it arrived THE SAME DAY, which actually freaked me out I’m not gonna lie! I think we all love you so much for showing us the way life can be lived without all this pressure to have the most beautiful things and the fastest deliveries and just… I’m tired of seeing so many people trying to achieve perfection I guess. I love the way you and your man live your life full of excitement just existing together and enjoying your hobbies… you also don’t make me feel bad for not going to get a whole bunch of Botox and fillers and all this other crap that otherrrrr RU-vidrs are trying to convince me is “necessary”. We are all so grateful that you are who you are Cindy and that is why we will love every damn video you give to us!!!! Oh god those are pretty! I would go crazy having all those pretty colors to choose from lol. I like lavender but I think I like lilac even more, because we had a lilac tree in the backyard of my childhood home. Otherwise I love warm scents for the winter, like vanilla.

I loveeeee lavender soap. My absolute favorite. I've seen some soap makers say real lavender isn't recommended in melt and pour because it can turn brown but who cares, it smells AMAZING and it's so nice knowing what actually in your soap !

I’ve made soap for years now. Sell some and keep some. In fact my soap was all she was using the last 15 years of her life. A word of advice, melt the soap in a double boiler on the stove. It keeps the temperature more even. I like how you’re explaining everything and did mention you can melt in the microwave. I love micas. I’m very surprised your doing this but I love it❤

Sorry I missed that your favorite scent is lavender and asked that question for your q&a. It’s such a wonderful smell. Mine are a tie between my first incense in the 70’s of nag champa, or patchouli oil. Either one will relax me. I don’t like that so many ppl associate them with weed. I love weed but I also love the smell of those anytime, anywhere. Another of my favs is one that my daughter in law shared with me is a Shadow Scents brand scent called Dragon’s Blood It reminds me sooo much of the head shops I visited in the 70’s/80’s. To me it smells like incense,patchouli,and warm candles all at the same time. It’s so relaxing and always puts me in a good mood.

bramble berry is where i'm going to be ordering all of my body products i'm going to make. I have a vision of making oregon scented soap and body products. you can also mix your mica with the oils you'll use in your soap. I will be recommending you to watch katie from Royalty Soaps here on youtube. She has a whole series for people starting out in making soap. I watch her make soap because it's calming and looks like fun. Yes, bramble berry has the colorant blocks. nature's garden is a good source for fragrance oils but i like getting my oils from rose mountain herbs. you can wrap your individual soaps in parchment paper to keep them intact.

I just started this video so this isn’t related to anything, but Cindy, I wanted to tell you that I bought all the stuff you use to make your coffee every morning. The Starbucks concentrate, the Torani syrup (I got French vanilla) and half+half creamer. One of my new year’s resolutions is stop spending so much money on Starbucks but I could never find anything that tasted as good. But I am now a believer!! I haven't ever calculated - but I would say it's probably more expensive than buying cheap soap, but less expensive than buying high quality soap. Lol. That's not very helpful! But to give you an idea, the soap base is only $6 per pound and it makes about 4 bars. So $1.50 per bar before coloring, scents, additives. I think you could definitely make bars for around $2 each if you use lower cost herbs and oils (not lower quality, just oils that cost less - like orange instead of rose, etc). I hope that helps some!

Lol! No, not all counters are this high! Mine were specifically built for a very tall woman who used to own this house. And I am very short, so it just looks even more ridiculous. 😄

Be careful with storage of your melt and pour Cindy, glycerin bases attract water so over time if they're not sealed properly they will attract water and it beads on the exposed surfaces which can affect their performance. Interested to know how your bars are affected by the lavender bleeding over time as well. Really nice to chill and watch this vlog, makes me want to make some soap again!

I live in a very dry area, so I don't get much glycerin sweat. I store my bars in paper. But If I do, I just put them in front of a fan and it clears it up pretty fast! This was much more of a problem in the humid South, but not something I worry about in the desert. Lol! I've never had a problem with lavender bleeding very much in my soaps (at least not that I've noticed), but I use them within a few months. Not sure if it would be worse if they were stored longer. i’m one of those who cannot stand lavender lmao. i think it has grown on me as i’ve become an adult, but as a child it only produced massive headaches. i’m super sensitive to smells tho. it’s so annoying.
