Making Homemade Raspberry Liqueur

This is a recipe we have made in my household, my father used to make it, for over 30 years. If you have ever had Chambord this is very similar only you can make it yourself and save some money. Don't make this if you are under the age of 21. Underage drinking is bad. Mkay?
Supplies needed:
a 2 quart canning or similar sized jar with leak proof lid.
Ingredients
2 cups of good quality vodka
2 cups of sugar
2 cups of fresh raspberries (Frozen whole raspberries will work in a pinch)
Combine sugar and vodka in jar and mix. The sugar will not dissolve and there will be a lot left. This is normal.
Add the 2 cups of whole raspberries. do not crush them or shake the container once the berries are added. If they break apart it makes it harder to strain them out at the end.
Place the cover tightly on the jar and lay it on it's side. Over the next approximately week and a half rotate the jar 1/4 turn so the sugar comes up the side of the jar a couple times per day until all sugar is dissolved.
When sugar is completely dissolved strain out the raspberries and place the liqueur in a container of your choice. I use a glass decanter.
I would recommend against using any kind of lead crystal decanter as the lead will leach into the alcohol and you could potentially give yourself lead poisoning. Yes lead crystal is made using real lead. Look it up.

I like that. You just make equal parts of everything so that I can scale it to wherever I want. I only bought 6 oz pack of raspberries so I could try it out. 😊

Pour one cup at a time and it won’t spill. I use a simple sugar so that it is blended and completely dissolved. I use two to three times the raspberries and let them blend for about two months. It finishes a deeper colour and flavour liqueur which is AMAZING and none other can compare!!

Never expected this kind of video from you, considering you're not a big drinker. But I'm starting to doubt that with the amount of alcohol abuse in this video! I'm sure it's excellent. Very hard to compare it to Chambord, as Chambord uses Cognac as the spirit. Your version is more of a raspberry-infused vodka, _"kicked up a few notches"._ That's the technical aspect of it. I'm no drink-snob. I'm willing to bet that your version is far superior to other raspberry-infused vodkas on the market. Putting it in the decanter definitely earns it a significant price hike. Chambord, according to what I've seen, has "dumbed down" their bottle, it no longer has the crown on the cap. My father came across his bottle of Chambord from many years ago, and gave me the cap topper crown, back then it used to be made of metal. These days, the crown is gone entirely.

We had a family friend that went crazy with this recipe substituting various fruits. I think he tried blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and who knows what else to mixed success. I'd like to try it with black raspberries if I could ever find any. My lack of experience showed in how much abuse was displayed. I need more practice to get it right. 😉
