A short video showing how I make 17 identical ribs for my radio controlled balsa aeroplane, a Das Ugly Stik. I appreciate this nothing new, but thought some may find it interesting and useful, its a great technique that works well for me.

hello again Mark, I got to this stage with my Outlaw build on Thursday; at my Activ Lives shed, here in Ipswich, Such a lovely feeling , I actually feel like im getting there at this stage. I used 3mm steel rods similar to your concept and it worked very well! Iwill probably be cutting out notches for spars next week ,so popped back here today for a refresher, I get nervous! especially after my stroke , I forget things, so I need to refresh often, your channel also gives me confidence to build my plane as I know your methods work, as with the wing rib success. so thank you again keep safe! and respect from suffolk uk . Im nervous about which glue to use now, but "onwards and upwards" thank you sir.

If you'll take a piece of hardwood the same width as the spars and attach sandpaper to them, you can quickly sand the notches while the ribs are still bolted together. This will quickly and easily give you notches the correct width and depth that won't require any tweaking when unbolted. Other than that, this is an excellent tutorial.

Made many of them. Blew mine up to a 82 inch wing and used a G26 and it was the best fun flying plane. Always has a nose gear. Never a tail dragger. I used 3/16 balsa ribs and 3/8 fuselage sides. 1/4 top and bottom with 1/4 light ply on bottom front and 3/8 on top front. TNT landing gear made my gear and used fults nose gear.

Nicely cut ribs makes for a good wing. My recent Sig Senorita had pretty poor quality die cut ribs ( someone should offer a wing short kit with laser cut ribs ).

Have you done a video about producing ribs for a taper wing using the sandwich method. I'm curious how you set the smaller reference relative to the larger one prior to profiling the full sandwich.
@MarkRobinson555
@MarkRobinson555 Месяц назад
Have not used the sandwich tech on tapered ribs, never really liked the idea or process, prefer to do them individually. I do have a video on cutting tapered ribs which you may fine useful. 😀

Thanks for the comment, I use a razor saw, 42tpi, and then a scalpel to take out the tab, and I do the final fitting individually, you may find more detail in one of my other build series, hope that helps 😀
