I’m finding from watching competitive videos and tournament replays that something with a x4 weakness should stay in on the x4 move possessing mon because so many times the opponent will expect you to switch and go for another move. In gen 8, when lando I was allowed, heatran was actually a 50/50 match up since they would run sludge wave as their alternate to earth power and expect you to want to switch out to a flier. It was interesting to watch
@@astromigui That's singles in a nutshell. The one who makes the right predictions and reads their opponents like a book has half the battle won. From that, is all about cutting the options your opponent has, as well ruin their strategy, while making yours feasible to take the win.
“Eh idk what the play is I’ll click knock off” *gets rewarded* “This was truly unexpected” I’m making a joke and obviously in this example a lot more went into it, but knock is like the furthest possible thing from a crazy play. Even if it’s not guaranteed progress on something switching in it’s good damage
But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
So... The whole thing about the volc, heatran and bisharp was a way of trying to say 'dont focus on trying to slow down the threat that will kill you anyway. Find a way to kill the threat before it kills you'
Understanding how to maneuver into the position you want can be so so hard. Very satisfying when you can run a line like this though from the knowledge and awareness.
Speaking of moves, would you consider discussing what DPP OU would be like if every pokemon learned the moves they don't normally get until later generations? Think RBY Tradebacks, just with a much wider scale. A few notable examples i can think of: - Gengar and Rotom get Nasty Plot - Flygon gets Dragon Dance and Stealth Rock - Tyranitar gets Knock Off - Gliscor gets Spikes and Toxic Spikes - Entei gets Sacred Fire - Breloom and Scizor get Close Combat
Excellent video! I think that, once again, Pokemon can teach us something about real life here. Sometimes, making that crazy risky or insane decision pays off.
In my opinion, such moves, when they work, are very well done, but at the end of the day they are nothing but pure risk and a matter of pure luck. Since it is always a 50/50 whether the opponent plays save or expects a switch out. Of course, in theory this can be applied to any situation. But how exactly do you judge that? Stay in Lando with Heatran because you expect the U turn, smartly done. If the opponent presses EQ it was a risky or even stupid play
a layman's takeaway from this video: context is everything in pokemon decision making the real takeaway from this video: volcarona is the dumbest pokemon ever
This reminds me of that one time I went on Showdown while on LSD. It was TERRIBLE! It was like I was playing chess and my opponents were playing checkers. 0/10 do not recommend
The way y’all feel a about ADV OU is how I feel about Gen 6 ORAS OU. It was the gen I really started to become better as a player and I felt there was such diversity in both playstyles and Pokémon from lower tiers filling a niche.
Im confused as to why you didn’t expect u-turn. I know there is a possible burn from Volcarona and iron barbs from Ferrathorn. Is u-turn unpopular because of the anti-synergy with swords dance?
i still dont quite understand the turn 2 weavile play, i get its fine if they ko you straight up with bp since that lets volc in but they can just uturn to chip/ko you while positioning around to a mon that denies volc a qd?
i think it's because it's set is bp, knock, defog, and roost (maybe swords dance) so it can't fit u-turn on the set. usually on mega scizor you only run one of u-turn or knock off
