Made a start on the cold side intercooler piping for the EP91 Starlet. Using a Gravity, 51mm universal aluminium pipe kit with silicone hoses to carry the turbo boost to the throttle body. Same method for Glanza and EP82 Starlet GT Turbo also...It's getting closer every week!

This is really cool been following along for the past few weeks. Hope it turns out to be a solid reliable motor. Do you have any plans to lower the compression with new pistons to accommodate the turbo or is the plan to keep it completly stock?

Thanks, I'm going to keep it stock internally as the increase in power (to approx. 150bhp) will be fine for this stage of the project. If I want more power in the future I will rebuild the engine with forged rods and pistons, and uprated valve springs. There are thicker headgaskets (1.9mm) that would lower the compression ratio slightly on a stock engine without much effort / cost or get a de comp plate made, but the stock rods are pretty skinny on the gen 2 4efe engines and I think this will still limit the power anyway. The gen 1 4efe engines have thicker rods, stiffer valve springs and a higher rev limit and are therefore stronger than the ep91 Starlet gen 2 4efe engine I have for boosting.

Why didn't you just buy a Glanza Turbo engine, refurbished and upgraded it?

Too expensive and rare, people want silly money for them now. Plus you need the engine wiring harness, ECU the under dash loom from the car also. The 4efe + T conversion will provide the power I want. Maybe 5 years ago 4efte swaps were possible but I don't have the money for it now. Plus they may have been thrashed to death. If I want big power, I'll just forge the low mileage 4efe I have and go standalone management.

dont mount the ic solid to the frame vibration will crack it use rubber mounts like the radiator uses. otherwise nice job.

I've always mounted the bar and plate style intercoolers without rubber mounts and not had a problem. The bonnet latch needs to be attached to it also, so rubber mounts won't work. All the aftermarket kits for Starlet and Glanza are the same. Maybe tube and fin design is different.

You won't be driving these cars enough for the aluminium to crack if solid mounted.
