Nice job Joe. One good tip I was shown to get the threads true to the bar centreline: While the bar is still in the lathe, fit a chuck into the tailstock and grip the tap in that. Move the tap into contact with the drilled hole, then turn the lathe chuck by hand to start thread cutting. Advance the tailstock manually to follow the thread. DO NOT start the lathe, even very slowly!! Once the thread is established, take the bar and tap out of the lathe and finish tapping the hole in a vice. Perfectly lined up every time!!
Wish I had a Gardener engine to make a lifting eye for, I expect the various 6 & 8 cylinder Gardener engine's in the trucks I drove over a life time have long met their end.
