One day-in and driving the tractor is old hat for the farmer's son. We're planning to make about 600 small bales and then do the rest in large. #thefarminglife #johndeere Check out some of our other videos • Video
Hello guys! We just purchased a new 300+ acre farm. Check out our newest video to see where we are at now. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V2DsNJalEoM.html
Brings back memories of driving an old Massey Ferguson 135 baling hay in the middle of summer and sweating my 12 year old ass off...oh times were simple back then...great to see your lad experience the hard work and joys of farm life.
I totally agree. I was run ing the baker and most other field work operations at 10 years old. I knew enough to shut everything off if something went wrong. Yep I actually grew up with common sense
Love that you have the kids involved, when I was his age I always had the stack job even when the bales where bigger then me.Ive been teaching my 2 older boys (4 year old twins) to drive tractor they love it.Your Son did a very good job
A wonderful sight there. Family working hard. Dad you are teaching that boy so much. I was about his age way back on my parents farm pulling trailers in the tobacco fields. He'll grow up to be a mans man. Handling that John Deere like a boss. I salute you all!
Jiminy cricket this truly makes me miss working out on the farm..I too was your son's age when I started driving a tractor and changing tubes out at the irrigation ditch...times with my dad I always took for granted and now I so desperately wish I had back....thanks for sharing be safe take care and God bless..
I saw that little cutie try to grab a bale and help daddy. Those kids are go into grow up with a great work ethic. Great parenting going on here. Kudos. Man, this takes me back to my childhood on the farm. We did it by dropping bales and coming back to throw them up on the hay rack. Thanks for the nostalgia.
I rode the wagon for years stacking hay on it. One thing I used to help my back and made it easier to handle was hay hooks. we used wire to tie our bales and so the bales were about 70 to 90 lbs. our trailers would hold 100 to 120 bales if you stacked them 5 high. this brings back memories of when I was younger. My 2 older brothers left for college when I was 12 years old so I had to take the place of them. I would load the hay on the trailer while my Mom run the baler. My Dad was over stacking hay by himself or my little brother would drop them off the trailer to Dad, he was 6. I actually started helping with hay at about that same age, 6, helping to roll the bales off the trailer to Dad. the last 2 trailers for the day would be loaded and pulled home 4 miles away. We had 2 G john Deere tractors we used. We purchased a 730 Diesel and that made baling hay with the newer baler go better because of the live PTO.
Now THIS is how I remember farming and haying when I was a kid. Dad taught me how to do it all except mowing. We had an old Farmall H, Farmall Super C and a Farmall Cub. Our baler was almost like yours, an old Hew Holland with a Wisconsin motor on it. We had to make 11,000 bales to make it through to the next season. We did it just as you are here. Have to admit, I sure do miss those days! It was a simpler life then. My compliments to baling crew and how well they work. Job well done folks!!
It’s great to see your son helping on the farm. It’s one of the best ways to raise children. They learn the value of hard work and commitment from an early age.
Father & son working together ,, that young chap will remember these days working with his dad for the rest of his life ,, I'm 71 now an my boys are always saying dad do you remember ,,?? 👍👍👍👍👍
Its so great to see the young getting involved, My first tractor driving was a 1964 ford super dexta at just the ahe of 7yrs, and my late farther also showed me the dangers of farming if you mess around with machinery, Well done Great clip too,.
I grew up in central utah, I spent many of hours cutting, bailing, hauling, grass hay, alfalfa hay, straw. Just watching this video I can remember the smell. It was very hard work but I love it and I miss it. Thank you
Awwww 🥰 love the team work!!! Excellent skills! I bet your son is loving driving the tractor! Get your little man a hat though... or a pair of sunglasses so the hay keeps from his eyes. Blessings hard days work... earned!
When I was a kid, circia 12 years old, My brother and I often worked on the trailer, stacking bails that were coming off the bailer. we could not keep up with the bailer. So I'm very impressed that one man is not only keeping up but actually waiting on each bail. I'm even more impressed to the two little girls are keeping up with the bailer.
That is basically how we made hay also. We would put up an average of 1,000 bales a day, with our crew. Two in the field, one or two hauling in loads, one unloading the wagon, and two in the mow. We would then go and milk our 60 cows. NH makes a great baker. We always pulled ours with a 77 Oliver, because it had live PTO. It made for some long days. Great memories.
I’m glad to see you being a good parent and teaching your son how to be a hard working man because most kids sit in the house all day and play video games especially when it’s hot. Great job👍
Nice video guys!! Really nice to have all the help from the family....makes for a much better operation. Reminds me of when I was about 7 or 8 years old and riding the wagon behind the baler....I was always excited to be in on the fun! Funny how it turns into real work as we get older!! That's a nice wagon with the "tenderfoot" for flooring. Should last a long time. Really like your video....great job!!
Brings back good memories of bailing on the farm, learning to drive the tractor using the baler with my dad.. By the way, please teach your kids to use hearing protection always.
Thanks for the comment. We do our best to try. Hope you're having a great day don't forget to check out from all the other videos of him running different pieces of equipment.
That young man is being raised right! Much better than setting in front of a computer screen playing games. I'm love seeing our kids learn about real life and what it takes to make real money and learn the value of a dollar!🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜👨🌾👨🌾👨🌾👨🌾👨🌾
Train up a child in the way he should go, And even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 May God Bless these parents for training their kids the way to go.
Патцан крассавчик то что Папу помогает!!! Я тоже мечтаю чтоб мой Сын тоже помог мне как этот пацацан!!! Дай Бог здоровя хороший воспитание вашему Сыну!!!
I'm from the country but raise my kids in the city and I think country living is way more important for young people. This city living made them spoiled and lazy when they was little. A good day for me was when I could get my son to remember to take out the trash let alone drive a tractor and help bale hay.
I applaud you guys. Not many actual "farm families" around nowadays. We farm too and do most of the grain part ourselves but with the tobacco we have h2a workers come up from Mexico...some have been coming for 15 years or better. Good luck to you guys
Did this as a kid, the last layer we would throw on the bale trailer you had to step under the bale to push to get on, that was when you collected all the dust in the bale. 🙂🙂
sheepshank, sheepshank, tie a sheepshank!!!! looks fun, our old new holland died years back that man ain't no city boy, his son is driving the tractor and he isn't wearing gloves, thanks for sharing Mom!
Great job getting your boy started early!! I know there are a lot of people who will have negative comments. Horse pucky to them. Reminds me of years ago with my dad. I started out at 5 driving tractor. I'm 58 now and still love it. Thanks for the great videos. john
Thank you - the pony motor on the bailer solves a problem in way I had not even considered (our tractor is a bit too small for the bailer). Years ago large diesel engines needed help starting. The manufacturers solved the problem by adding a small gasoline powered engines to assist the starter. Those were nicknamed "pony motors" for some reason.
I am from India thanks for making this video I have get a great ideas from your videos we are facing huge problems of straw . From a heart again thanks For inspiring videos God bless you..
Like showing the youth how to help with the baling. Better than him sitting in the house on video games. I also like the bale wagon. Being a mesh floor, don't have to worry about being slick from the straw and better than wood like we used to use. Thanks again.
This family has been baling small bales for awhile !! Noticed the old man on the rack dont " pull " the bales out from the shoot ! So many make work for themselves.... pull every bale out ! Hes experienced !!!!!
started driving tractors before i could touch the pedals. I think i was 6 years old. was pulling the flatbed trailer while the men loaded it up with hay. had 60 acers to do. old gas massey 35
Back in 76 I was in Amish country in Pennsylvania watching a steam engine on the Strasburg railroad go bye and while I was waiting for the train an Amish farmer was getting his first harvest of hay in using 8 mules and an old 2 cylinder Wisconsin engine to run his hay bailer. It used the lost rope starter and the engine kept dying every 7-10 minutes or so. I worked with my uncle from the age of 6 at his small engine shop so had a pretty good idea what was wrong. I have a full beard down at that time to my waist so when it dies the 6th time I walked out to the bailer and offered my help and sure enough the idle jet was missing the spring to hold the jet in place. He was trying everything he could think of to keep it running and was getting farther and farther behind. After resetting the needle valves to the correct starting points I restarted the engine and the farmer stated it hadn't run that nice in months. Told him I would be back and drove in town to a small engine shop where I bought two sets of needle springs and after getting back at the field we shut her down and I applied both springs to both needle valves, reset them and started the engine and set the valves for best performance. I was invited and spent 3 days as his quest getting up at 4 am each morning and insisting even though I'm not a farmer if he was going to feed me the best homemade food I'd had in years I was going to give him my labor to pay for it. Not being a farmer all I did was shovel dung. He and his boys were surprised I volunteered for the work and I explained my grandfather would roll over in his grave if I didn't do something to earn my keep. Until the farmer saw my truck he thought I was a visiting farmer until I spoke. But was very appreciative of my volunteering to fix the problem. I explained I grew up in a rural area and everybody helped everyone out when something went wrong. His wife insisted I take a full size apple pie with me when I left three days later. It was delicious.
Yeah go for it with the antique plow day. Just send me an email to nickb3935@gmail.com with all of the info. on when and where it's going to be taking place!!!!!!
love the young one driving. when I was a kid I thought the guys that mow the interstate had the best job in the world cause they get paid to drive a tractor. I wish I was set up to have a trailer hooked to my baler instead of picking them of the ground.
That was my first tractor driving too at the age of 5. It was a John Deere A, stiff steering old beast. Dad would jump off the wagon at the ends and turn me around since I couldn't turn it myself, then run back to the wagon and get caught up stacking. I can still hear him yelling "stay off the windrow". That was 52 years ago, seems like yesterday. I lost him when I was 18, I will never forget the things he taught me and working beside him.
steak diner. . . he's already picked it out. Lol had to laugh today someone was telling me how their kid did 4 hours of work and wanted a new dirt bike for it, makes me proud that he's happy with a steak dinner. . . and he'll get it to.
thats great there is too much greed in the world your son knows the value of money and what you can afford to give him great to see ,you have a wonderful wife and children take care all
