For anyone wondering, this is the product I bought: www.bagsunlimited.com/product/3317/cd-gatefold-sleeve-center-loadingbrtray-card-and-booklet-in-one-side-cd-in-the-otherbr4-mil-polyethylene
Which of these did you use? I'm trying to understand the difference - CD Gatefold Sleeve. Center loading. Jacketed CD in one side; Booklet in the other - CD Gatefold Sleeve. Center loading. Tray Card and Booklet in one side; CD in the other
My friend, I've watched about 10 "CD storage alternative" videos (as I myself need to do something about the issue), and while most of them went on and on about what they like to listen to and how long they've been collecting, you nailed it. Thank you
Im using these type of double sleeves from japan market and Im using them only for digisleeves cd editions which dont have standart jewel case back titel polygraphy covers, but for digisleeves which damages with cd inserted inside - this is a decision! cuz now i can pull out cd and put in in the right side and digisleeve itself to a left pocket. usually i used any type for cd separation - all types - jewel cases, empty digipacks, all type of pockets, but this double japan pocket cases are bomb!! now both cd and digisleeves are together. and yes im a perfectionist and i cant imagine how you guys bend covers and edges, actually you are just damaging cds.
I use these plastic sleeves and put the cd inside of a paper CD Sleeve and they all fit - One issue is that it's much harder to see the title of the CD without pulling out each CD in my bookshelf - I have dividers by Letter, but unless I do a divider for every artist, would love to hear other ideas on how to easily find a CD - I have over 5,000 and they are all alphabetized - about 10% are in the plastic sleeves since its a big project, but my issue so far has been trying to easily spot the CD i'm looking for like i do with my jewel cases.
Dammit. I just dumped about a hundred jewel cases with backs in the recycling bin about 15 mins ago. I keep the covers but ive probably tossed 1000 backs over the last year or so... Shame.
Really BAD idea! JEWEL CASES are part of the original item, your loosing the value of the CDs, real collectors wants the entire thing as originally was release it with the original case.
This isn't a concern for me though, none of my CDs are overly rare or valuable, plus I could just require a jewel case and put it back in if I really wanted to
@@allanhazle-VideoGuy I own a lot of CDS that come with special jewel cases, like red ones, green ones, yellow ones, purples ones, etc. Those are not easily replaced, plus it changes the intended look of the album. I don't see how you could get the cds in and out of the sleeves without getting finger prints on them, at best, and scratches, at worst. Now if they could make one withe a thin disc tray with a pivot that fits inside the sleeve and a have a layer of plastic between that and the back cover in the sleeve, then maybe. But, as someone else pointed out, there's also the problem with bending the spines, or causing damage to the back cover. I used to have a travel cd case that had actual disc trays accordioned together so you could put the discs on actual pivots, like in the case, and they didn't get scratched up that way, like they do in most sleeves. Well, I still have it, but keep unimportant discs in it that don't have covers. How could you have THAT many CDs and not have ANY that are rare or valuable? I bet you'd be surprised how much some of them are worth.
I would recommend transfer it to Aiff in iTunes with cover scanned and keep on your hard drivers and backup, I just did the same jewel case are so bothering
Do you know of a secondary source for these Gatefold sleeves, Allan? I ordered them from the website you linked but they're on back order due to the pandemic. Thanks.
It was a few years back now I was looking but I recall considering some products on office depot's website as well as amazon. I searched various phrases on google like "cd sleeves" "compact disc slim folders" "cd cover art sleeves" etc. But really the best ones I found were the bags unlimited website, that's too bad to hear you're having a tough time getting them. But maybe there's another product out there if you search. Best of luck!
Allan Hazle Thanks, Allan. I found these Gatefold sleeves on eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/EASYCOVER-Gatefold-Mini-LP-CD-Non-Reseal-SelectSleeves-JPN-50pcs-SoundSourceCDs/223455538838?hash=item3406fcee96:g:UKUAAOSwKJtasvdY I'm not sure how close they are to the ones in your video.
Allan Hazle Turns out I didn't have to wait long for the bagsunlimited sleeves. They arrived last week and they work fantastic. Not only do I save on space and weight but they add a warmth and tactile softness to the experience of handling my CDs. I even incorporated those non woven, non scratch slip covers to hold the discs within the gatefold sleeves to reduce the chance of scratches from use. Superb recommendation. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. I've been looking for something like this. Are they the same length and width as a jewel case? I store my CD's in draws at the moment and they just fit - 3 across with the side label facing up. Wondering if these will fit the same of if the sleeve is a little bigger? Thanks.
So far I haven't had any issues with that. I usually slide out the tray card holding the CD then lift out the disc, and same for putting it back in. Seems less likely to scratch against the edge of the tray card that way. It definitely isn't going to be as durable as a hard plastic case, so maybe not ideal for taking a stack of CDs into the car with you or whatever, but for just easy in house use with proper storage I see no reason my disc should get damaged
Hey there, i just came across your video and honestly i was intrigued...I'm thinking of doing this too, but i have a question! You shared the link to where you purchased them from, but some reviewers say its too snugged and wont fit the cover art & inserts. Is there any possibility you can share the exact link to the ones you're using here on this video? I would really appreciate it!
I got the item: SCDGF4 link: www.bagsunlimited.com/product/3317/cd-gatefold-sleeve-center-loadingbrtray-card-and-booklet-in-one-side-cd-in-the-otherbr4-mil-polyethylene
They are called CD Gatefold Sleeve (model: scdgf4), bags unlimited was the company and here they are: www.bagsunlimited.com/product/3317/cd-gatefold-sleeve-center-loadingbrtray-card-and-booklet-in-one-side-cd-in-the-otherbr4-mil-polyethylene It'd be worth looking over the similar models they have for CD stuff, I spent a decent amount of time debating from a few variations they had, but in the end the SCDGF4 was a good pick for what I wanted. I guess I should have mentioned that in the video haha, anyways good luck to you and your CDs!
Please don't do this. Believe me, you'll regret it sooner or later. I started doing something like this and ended up buying empty jewel CD cases to reverse the process. In the begining it looks perfect because it saves a lot of space but you end up with a poor collection of scratched CDs with no value at all. Jewel cases protect the CDs. Those plastic sleeves will ruin both CDs and booklets!! It's really a bad idea!!
@@hatch1892, you are not so bright, are you?! "Are you?" is, of course, a rethorical question, since you obviously aren't able and unbiased to reply. Let me clear this for you: collecting means having the entire item, as a whole. If collecting would only mean music, then the files in a computer, or on a hard disk would do. Collecting means music, artwork, case, smell, looks, condition, the whole package. And collecting has nothing to do with gathering them in the lesser space. You know, if I had a wrong opinion about the term and if I thought collecting doesn't mean music, but only cases, I would only collect cases, dumb-ass!
@@dancoman1273 rather harsh, for a simple question, I think you'll fit in the VC just fine......oh wait your bitching about CD cases , yup your the music guy I want to trust and rely on .
