Just looking at the hammock, how did you fasten it up, so it was strong enough to hold his weight?

@@Cali20942 that’s so exciting, and thank you so much!! As for the hammock, I untied the leather strings from the sucker pads, and retied them onto some strong hooks:)

Yes I did! It’s under a layer of hydro rocks and substrate so I figured it should be safe. I still don’t know if that’s the best way to do it or not but no issues so far!

Thank you for the comment! I’d be interested to know how you reached this conclusion though? The general rule I’ve heard in the past is that if it’s big enough for the snake to stretch out along two sides on the enclosure, you’re good to go. Of course, with most animals, as big as possible is best, but this is debated amongst the snake keeping community, as many snakes, ball pythons included, hide in small burrows for the majority of the day in nature, and do not like the feeling of being exposed - some keepers believe their animals fail to thrive in larger spaces as they get stressed. For this enclosure, I chose one big enough for him to stretch out fully along the longer side, and also gave him lots of upward space for him to use if he wanted, although as they are a ground species, this is also not considered necessary by most advice literature. That being said, it is very hard to know how snakes feel about their surroundings since they have no emotional/social indicators, instead we can only look at their eating habits and general health, both of which are perfect in Emmett 🥰 It’s worth noting that Emmett is an adult male ball python, so he will not get larger than this, a female would probably need more space. 🐍
