I'm not really a fan of poser vehicles. But I am curious why you didn't just paint the calipers yourself?
@michaelrbodner
@michaelrbodner 4 года назад
I don’t have a floor jack nor jack stands and it’s too tight in my garage. I don’t like leaving cars outside and this is really a 2 day job.

Awesome video! This is a the first time I came across a video like this, very detailed and informative. Great content!

Because it's so complicated to spray primer and paint on brakes calipers?
@michaelrbodner
@michaelrbodner 4 года назад
@Tesla Dave, thanks and you're welcome! @Dan, I don't understand the negative attitude. Not everyone is inclined to do DIY work to this level. Yes, primer and paint is "easy", but the prep is tedious and lifting the car and taking off the wheels is not in everyone's repertoire.
@Resist4
@Resist4 4 года назад
Teslatunity it’s not hard to lift the car and take off the wheels. It seriously takes less time than making an appointment for all this. And the prep time really to tape, is nothing.

Better to go with powercoating the calipers for longevity/durability.

With regenerative braking carrying the load I anticipate the painted calipers will hold up really well. Only time will tell for sure though.

Interesting jack stand placement. Can I ask where you placed the front and back jack stands? Ever had the TM3 up on 4?

I wish I had a better angle for you, but unfortunately I didn't get a shot of the placement

Hey Michael, great video....love all your videos and I've been a subscriber for a long time. I did this myself to my Model 3 LR AWD (blue with white interior). But just some constructive criticism...I'm surprised the shop, being professional and all, didn't remove the calipers to paint them. I ended up removing mine, but they were still attached to the brake lines. But this made it far easier to paint the entire calipers completely. I did have to tape some areas, but removing the calipers completely allows you to remove the brake pads and get all around the calipers. The other thing I noticed is that they painted other areas that shouldn't have been painted. Eg: the black rubber cap on the bleed line as well as the adjustment nut, and also the tips of the 2 pins that protrude thru the caliper that hold the brake pads in place. Still looks nice though.

Hey thanks for the feedback! I actually thought they would take the calipers off as well. I reviewed the process with them so I knew what to shoot for the video. They said they had it down to a science with keeping the calipers on and I trust them. As for some of the bits, I think you may have seen them appear to be painted but they were taped off. I can say close up it looks OEM!

Nice job and it looks nice but it is a personal preference. When I first got my LR Rwd, I thought about doing this but after almost 2 years and nearly all the Model 3s I see having red calipers, I'm starting to prefer my stock ones...;-)

Thanks for another great video, Michael. By the way, every Tesla really is a performance car, right? 🙂 Good job in supporting and promoting local businesses during this downturn also, we're all in this together!

I hear you, the brakes are awesome on the performance cars. That said, I’m never tracking my car and probably 99% of my braking is done with regen. These look gorgeous at a fraction of the cost!!

DIY is definitely possible here, but I don’t have a floor jack or jack stands and it’s a little tight in the garage with both cars, so I felt more confident turning to the pros. Part 2 is a DIY though!

@@michaelrbodner buy the floor jack and stands, then you could rotate the tires yourself too. Do it in your driveway.

Of all of the DIY work I enjoy to do between the car and the house... tire rotations (and previously with ICE cars oil changes) just doesn’t interest me. Rotations are so cheap and fast at my local trusted tire shop.
