I'll have to reprime them with plain black powder but overall I'm pleased with the stars and the 3 inch ball shell. Songs: Dmitri Shostakovich - the second waltz Keep zero view - The Celebrated Minuet
This may seem insignificant but I really appreciate your choice of music in your videos. I'm by no means into classical music but it's just undivisive, unlike all modern music which you either like it or you don't. I hate it went I'm watching a video with music that's really obnoxious and I have to mute it.
Well, Another question What are those "Stars" and how do I start making tye balls it self? Cuz I need the balls but idk how to start making a begin of a round formed thingy 😅
I have a question about something unrelated to this video... I have trouble timing my 3" shells (gets super scary real quick!) And question my homemade gunpowder as well. I used the recommended length of time fuse but it's still bursting close to the time it hits the ground!!!! The mortar shoots the shell probably only 12 to 150 feet high and I think my shells probably should be going higher. I'm using like at least 30g black powder and i know it is fast because 10g in a muzzleloader about blew the gun out of my brother's hands!
Start improvinh your BP. Different wood charcoal work differently. Pine works very nice for BP. Use lift 10% of your shell weight. Then Time fuse. Around 2cm piece and 5mm inside diameter burns in 2.3 seconds so make about 3cm Time fuse. Then make your shells just perfect for your mortar that it sildes smoothly Inside. Thats my tip.
Can you make the star explode at the end like commercial fireworks? Like canlde firework there is a small star particle but it explodes with a very beautiful effect
its not a star that gets shot up, its called a bombette that is filled with flashpowder and small stars and the reason it sometimes look like a star is cause the bombette has a colored preburner
@@pyro_chimera I don't think it's good for long time storage, but yes, it reacts very slowly with nitrates compared to chlorates and perchlorates. With ammonium perchlorate you can feel a strong ammonia smell even when you treat the surface of the magnesium with potassium dichromate.
besides crackling cores what do you recommended using I was thinking of trying 1 mm rubber balls for some reason I have a bag full of thousands of them lol would u try small 1-2mm chunks of coal for the core? just looking for ideas on different cores for the stars
I like to use millet grains, but small rubber balls could be good too because i think then the stars would turn out more round. Charcoal bits im not so sure about
To avoid the raspberry shape, you have to use a star roller like the ones in factories that don't have a flat side. Maybe I have read it in a book by Takeo Shimizu or Hardt, btw. good video.
@@Ohio_Hobbies_Guy If your black powder is of excellent quality 7% might suffice. Paradoxically this is even more true for larger (>6") shells in accordance with Newton's 1st Law.
Not all stars are ignite, take atention on priming. Stars looks glosy after priming. Before pourout stars from roler spray stars wit mixture then pour into the bucket wit PB powder for few minutes then saparate bp from stars. star will seems poudered wit bp like donuts with powdered sugar .Then they should all light up.
Hey I have seen your video to how make stars but I think the method takes a lot of time, instead of doing the stars with the turning machine you can put some alcohol on the gun powder and make a balls with it and let dry with using low heat or just using the ssun
@@pyro_chimera I have one last question 😅, it's unrelated, do you think sodium nitrate can replace potassium nitrate for black powder? I've wondered for so long
