The lighting gives a 90s movie vibe which always reminds me of how cool movies actually were back in the day when they used large scale models for fully practical effects. Everything looked so real as a kid and I still believe it 'till this day. Hands down for you, guys. You're my new favorite SFX crew
The actual footage was done in a much larger scale, after the film was near complete. The full size cars were fabricated at Rader Railcar in Denver around 1994. They actually wrecked three cars during filming. Only two cars had interiors. One of them had 5 different interior areas to indicate different cars. The other shell cars returned to Rader Railcar to be rebuilt for other projects. It wasn't such a blast with the star...he was beyond arrogant....
@@MiniaturesFX that is because, in reality the metal would have crashed of the initial coaches and there would be friction and heat causing lighting effect. But here trains just collided and fell without damage is what making it less realistic

A suggestion on painting Athearn Blue Box handrails. I install them first, then hold the stanchions to the rails with a dab of CA. Once the glue is set, I pull the entire handrail assembly off of the locomotive and then airbrush the rails at once covering both sides and tops and bottoms evenly. Then simply press them back into the body.

@@MiniaturesFX I remember an episode of the TV show "Movie Magic" showed how they produced the original scene. Was a lot more work, not just because everything was bigger (and they couldn't buy it off the shelf as a result), but there was no such thing as commercial 3D printing, so they had to make it all the old fashioned way!

I’m impressed that your printer seems to print perfectly flat. On my XYZ printer the bottom curves on the edges, even if I stick glue on it. The force of the plastic is stronger than the glue. You don’t have that problem with yours?
@@MiniaturesFX No, I mean when printing the part. Even though I use glue on the build plate, the edges will warp upwards. The thicker the plastic is, the more warp there is. Just trying to figure out if it is the printer, filament or priming of the built plate. You don't seem to have that problem with your printer.
Ah ok, it’s not my 3D printer, it’s a friend who printed the bridge for me. I just know he made a lot of test with differents settings to fix many problems 😅

Destroying it is the whole point. They’re after the shot, like in the movie they’re emulating, not building a nice model to sit in their basement for years.

Buscaré unas máquinas para pintarlas esquema Grand Continental como en la película Alerta Máxima 2. Una es con motor y otra es Dummy. Compraré un set de vagones de pasajeros Amtrak de doble piso y las pinto como en la película. Las máquinas son GP-7 y GP-9 . 1804 y 1810. Podré a Casey Ryback con su pistola en el techo de la 1804 , ese tren Grand Continental es escala N.
It’s a pretty cool looking bridge it would be way to huge to be on a model railroad it would also look nice in the outdoors too. Many people claim the movie was “ horrible and “ a peice of shit “ it isn’t those people are prices of shit I think the movie was good you also left out a bell ud-h1 Huey helicopter In the movie the main characters are saved by a helicopter before the whole thing blows up incinerating everting in its path
And it’s probably for safety measures depending the scale if it’s big then make it smaller it’s better for more attempts but if it’s bigger scale then you have one attempt if it fails you have to repair or even rebuild the train all by their remains or by scratch
Since it was not a working train, putting a lot of extra weight inside the locomotives would have made this more realistic, because in no way would the loco have flown 20 feet up in the air like this. (20 feet HO scale) But what do I know, I just build parts for real locomotives, gotta love your enthusiasm though.
The biggest problem is that model locomotives don't crumple like the real ones, so they don't absorb much of the kinetic energy - hence the flying cars.
If it's a movie about two model trains colliding then you did an awesome job. However expecting the viewer to believe that two locomotives would be flung into the air like that? Totally unrealistic. Perhaps you could try making the rolling stock as close to scale weight as possible?
Yeah during the shooting of this movie the acual one they sued some miniatures giant miniatures made of aluminum and car metal so the locomotives don’t combust on impact
Yes this model railroad hobby is indeed expensive and if it breaks it’s a lot of money down the drain people think of them as toys very expensive ones and they wasted so much money
@@dexterdog62 it's a Steven Segal movie. I bet it has way more accuracy problems than the dimensions of the bridge piers that probably get about 15 seconds if actual screen time. 😆
You did a fantastic job. The engineering behind this & technology computerized latticed structure girders. Excellent. Engines by ATHEARN tops. ✅ I was down with this video until you destroyed this! 😵😮😲 To me this hobby cost a serious fortune. I hated to see that happen... ... However i would definitely like to get the lazer cut machine that designed the girders & structures. That impressed me . I definitely need something like this in my building structure projects. I too scratch build models myself. Realistic ? 🤔 looked it to me. For a disaster in a movie it was angering & scary .....It must have been that good to me way to go! 👍👋👋👋👋👋👋✅
las secuencia es magnífica es de la película Alerta Máxima 2 pero la colisión tiene un fallo terrible y es este si dos locomotoras colisionan frontalmente las dos máquinas que darían irreconocibles es decir la fuerza cinética habría provocado el aplastamiento de las dos primeras unidades los por que yo he visto los efectos de una colisión de dos trenes de mercancías uno con tre locomotoras y el otro con dos y solo quedo una locomotora en estado de poder ser reparada las otras cuatro causaron baja por destrucción total los bastidores se doblaron como si fueran de papel muriendo los cuatro ocupantes este es el camino
