I'm watching this, I see the sets, miniatures, puppets, costumes, wires, slime and smoke and I think "Wow, that's so impressive, takes real craft and hard work. I wonder if all this costs a lot, maybe doing it with CG would be cheaper?" Then I remember that the budget is $80 mil. Not peanuts, but way less than you'd think, way less than major studios spend on their blockbuster actions filled with CG. Because this movie looks incredible. Like, watch, we can have incredible visuals on a small-ish budget. We can have it so good, just let people who know what they're doing do their thing.

do people actually believe that they shot the outer space scenes for real? lol, guys the CG isn't bad, what's actually good is the proper use of CG in combination with practical, I bet there were way more CG facehuggers on screen than not, but because they showed a physical puppet our brains are just fooled, which is brilliant and that's pretty much the best way to do it, with invisible CG and practical.

The acid maze was honestly so cool, and I know they didnt do this so that they COULD have an acid maze, but while watching, I was like why not switch on the gravity and then back off before leaving that doorway with the switch, thus making all of the acid hit the ground and letting them fly through the air above it.

@jeremycovelli
@jeremycovelli 15 дней назад
@@NOTNAFilms opening scene has 2 major plot holes and 1 continutity error alone.. ignoring the gapping plot holes, the alien was blown into space hundreds of thousands of miles away from the Nostromo.. it wouldn't be found floating right next to the wreckage. The small coal ship goes out of control and starts hitting thing on the space station, it ends with a long scene of it crashing into a HUGE cargo bay with those HUGE like 500 foot tall doors closing. Then two scenes later when preggo girl opens the hatch to get out.. somehow the entire ship is in a tiny hallway that she's lock in?? They're trying to figure out how to get the facehugger off of the girl and ask Andy for help, he literally says "I don't know anything about this creature," then 4 scenes later, when all the facehuggers are very conveniently in the same hallway, He suddenly knows everything about them and how they have no eyes, hunt by temperature and sound and explains a bunch of other stuff about them. There's a scene were they show the elevator cable coming off the pulleys.. and specifically say the elevator doesn't work in zero g. except that all 15 times we see the elevator in the shaft.. there is no cable on it. they then procede to use the elevator normally anyway in zero g with no issue. Also in that sequence, the entire floor of the 100 foot long hallway blows out into space.. but somehow when the elevator goes down.. it plugs the hole and the suction stops???? Chick kills like 30 aliens then floats around the acid... there are no dead alien bodies in that entire sequence.. they just disappeared.that's like 6 of at least 50 I counted..

the practical effects definitely came in clutch for this movie. there were some plot things i didn't like so much, but were a lot easier to accept and take seriously thanks to the practical effects, cinematography, lighting, set design, and compelling characters. i definitely feel like without them i could've written this movie off as more of a cash grab nostalgia bait movie than an legitimate attempt to bring back the vibe and feel of the earlier movies. i bet if you were to put some film grain over Romulus, it'd be hard to distinguish it from being made in the 80s. Edit: I also wanted to mention that David Jonsson was my favorite of the cast, he did a phenomenal job of playing Andy, and was probably my favorite part of the movie. He really helped to immerse me into the world with just how well he played a slightly damaged/outdated android, and how quickly he could change to the more cold, calculating Rook-influenced Andy. I wish that they had maybe gone somewhere with the android welfare commentary, like I had expected that Andy would have had a chance to express how much he disliked being "taken over" by Rook so to speak, and how it made him go against his own ideals, but that never really happened which I feel made the metaphor of androids as a minority group fall pretty flat, and felt stranger given the context that Andy is black. Rant Incoming, my apologies it just kinda happened: Historically in the Alien franchise, androids have been used mostly as representative of the Weyland/-Yutani Corp and are meant to be the unempathetic voice of a company that only cares about the bottom line. But as the movies have gone on and androids given more depth, the ideas start to kind of fight each other. Is this essentially the same as a human being, free to make choices? Or are they all subject to programming that will end the life of a human at the drop of a coin if its for the "greater good?" It just feels strange and mishandled the further they play into it, but then drop the ball.

It did look great. Definitely less artificial compared to other Alien movies. Now it just needs more in terms of story for the next one. The setting for the story was an interesting idea but maybe the movie needed to feel more dynamic so somehow they would have needed to transition to a 2nd 3rd 4th or 5th location. The space station was a good starter location but maybe they needed to get off that station. The main story needs something to give the movie more locations while featuring Aliens, Maybe a war or smuggling ship.

Just as I thought while watching the movie all 3 times: most of the guys are in their 30-40, none of them is like 70-80 yo, meaning none of them worked on Alien or Aliens or even Alien 3 in any serious role, and it really shows in creature work for this movie, it is far from perfect. This movie is a pure fan-fiction but not the way Aliens were to Alien, in a comic-con way rather.

A really great movie, but the aliens could be more aggressive and have a bigger human enemy. I miss the fight between the aliens and the soldiers. Where is the big fight like in Starship Troopers or Lord of the Rings? The best scene was the fight of the new weapon against the aliens. A battle suit against the aliens to fight back with bare hands would be something new. I know the movie timeline is between Alien 1979 and 1986, but a new artist should deal with the development of the aliens to surprise the audience .

Great film, and a worthy entry into the series, not doubt about that!. Just one thing I didn´t like, the Cgi on Rook, please go back and brush it up, it took me out of the film when ever it was on screen. With the current tech, it must be something that can be fixed.

Love the movie. My only wish was that they had shot it on film or gave it the gritty film look. There were some shots that were so clean, it clashed with the worn world.

I was a fan of how clean the shots were because I got to see so much more detail! The film grain effect just covers up all of these folk's hard work. Prime lenses for life!!!! 🤘🏼

I think films with such quality in sets, practical stuff and etc. should be clean. I like digital cameras and their lenses nowadays. in 4K it would be amazing too.

In my opinion this is not a great movie, but its a good crowd pleaser, there are some things that could be improved or done a bit differently, but over its enjoyable. I think the people who are wanting to see something new however will be disapointed though.

you mean like the absolutely terrible ian holm cg that was some of the worst looking cg i have ever seen?
@jonahulichny9874
@jonahulichny9874 14 дней назад
@@terriblemaze It not bad CGI, It definately could have been better considering you can definately tell its computer generated, but its not as big a stretch as your making it out to be. Its like the difference between real life and say red dead redemption 2 or the more recent GOW games, not on par with real life, but close. If you want an example of obviously bad CGI, I suggest black adam, specifically the demon dude at the end.
@terriblemaze
@terriblemaze 13 дней назад
@@jonahulichny9874 it's terrible. looked okay on the remote video feed but every frame of him interacting with the other actors was horrendous. it looked like his mouth was a flat hologram projected onto a dummy's head. his features shifted unnaturally over the practical elements. i mean, if this isn't bad cgi then they shoulda just not done cgi cuz cgi can't cut it.

@billtheradioactivedachshun8495 no the final closeup shot of the hybrid baby is definitely cg. Also cg is used in conjunction with practical effects in every movie. Yes the practical applications used here were outstanding.

I think your overblowing the CGI. they hybrid baby is hidden by the lighting and we see it for a split second. For Rook, while you can definately tell he's CGI, its not like something like Black adam where it looks like a few of the characters came out of a raid shadow legends ad. He's still technically impressive, he just sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the movie.

@ozcosgaming

I just realized that Cailee Spaeny would be much better choice as Ellie instead of Bella Ramsey in the Last of Us. Cailee's reactions and play would fit better in the character. I can't feel Ellie as Bella plays.
