Turns 25 today! Possibly Michael Bay’s biggest spectacle until ‘Transformers’ and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer The height of the disaster movie craze comes one where it involves the end of the world No doubt this film relishes in being loud, bombastic, and full of spectacle Tons of destruction when it comes to the meteorites hitting Earth The characters are full of flair with some cheese factor The score is emotional too Although it might be too much for most viewers since it does assault the senses a lot when it comes to the editing, lighting, or the sound mixing It’s also 2 and a half hours long plus subtlety and nuance is almost nonexistent But it is big, mindless entertainment in which Michael Bay excels his excess Plus this movie broke box office records paving the way for modern blockbusters And I love the Aerosmith song to much it became a hit on the music charts Made $553.7 million going against Deep Impact Roger Ebert hated it saying it was a complete assault on the senses, most critics took issue with its constant choppy editing due to Michael Bay Of course he admits that they only had 16 weeks to film because the studio ended up taking it away from him He could redo the third act if he could Even an article came out that NASA said handling a world ending situation like this would be unrealistic It created the wave of cinema called vulgar auterism too
I watched Siskel & Eberts review of Armageddon, and I'm disappointed in Roger. And he was my favorite of the two! I saw Armageddon in the theaters when I was 10, and I loved it, and so did everyone else I knew who saw it, no matter their age. The editing is overcut, and you have to suspend a great deal of disbelief to accept the premise, but the movie is enormously entertaining. The crux of this movie's appeal is that a charismatic cast of characters took the plot seriously while still having a sense of humor. Two aspects of filmmaking that are lacking today: charismatic actors, and a sense of humor.
Thanks for sharing that! It's so strange to hear scenes from the movie without the music and sound effects. I realized my blu ray doesn't have any behind the scenes.
If all the Disney cartoon characters saw this movie, I think they would be shocked to see the asteroid as the main villain in the movie but interested and amazed at the detail of the asteroid. Even the Disney villains would be impressed.
