+contmike What are nodes. I mean I know what they are in general computing terms, but what are they and what kind of rendering time do they relate to in VFX?
@JKC40

+VibeCentral | Amazing Deep and Tropical House! Generally, they are likely talking about 13,000 processor cores, in server rack type machiens using Xeon processors, they are probably blade-type machines using dual Xeons in each blade. Figure around 400 machines (generally, figure 12 cores per cpu on average, with a portion of them having only 8, and another portion of them having 16, so average it) As for the actual render times, in 3D an hour to several hours per frame is still common in feature films. Scene complexity keeps increasing on a par with computer speed increases, so that never really goes down. Compositing render times, people never really discuss but it is usually considerable lower than the 3d render times.

+VibeCentral | Amazing Deep and Tropical House! Nodes in this case refer to the composition nodes used in Nuke for compositing, like Blend, Blur, HSL, Levels etc... The more complex the composition graph is, the higher the render times are. Search for 'Nuke compositing tutorial' on youtube to see what I mean.

What are nodes exactly.....?
@Bhatt_Hole

They are the cinematic equivalent to the cilia which are in your colon. We need them for proper digestion of food, but given the wrong stimuli they can cause problems. Most notably, when you combine greasy foods with a night out drinking. In my case, and presumably in the case of all people with chronic IBS, it causes explosive/projectile diarrhea early the next morning. And that is a great inconvenience. Similarly, nodes within the world of film post-production are temperamental, and must be treated with respect, never exceeding the amount of computational power they are designed for. Or.....your get cinematic diarrhea. And that is a great inconvenience. Once, despite knowing better, I had a cheese quesadilla (with guac) from Taco Heaven on 124th street and Broadway after drinking excessively at The Regal Beagle, with my dear friends Janet and Chrissy. After soiling my bed linens in the most horrific fashion imaginable (considering I had a bed-guest that evening), I vowed never to make that mistake again. 11 months later I did. We truly are our worst enemy. I sincerely hope this helps with your understanding of nodes, and the important role they play.

You can use every color you want as a "green" screen. Green and blue are just the most common because it usually is not used in the things being filmed.

So the director wrote a script, they started making the movie and got to the part where Kowalski is being pulled by nothing when Ryan holds him. The cgi crew said "well you might have lack of knowledge because exactly opposite should have happened" and the director said "huh?". Lol, is that right? Plot device at its finest.

Nothing "awful" about Interstellar. Gravity is certainly made for an easier-to-please audience, that's for sure.

The CG was awsome - True. But the movie was actually very shallow, unemotional and boring :/ I don't get it why people like it ...

Unemotional? If you didn't feel anything, you're not human
@NeilOttoTep
@NeilOttoTep 10 лет назад
oR3Io hmm... maybe that the case :p, but seriously- I've seen better, for me Gravity was unemotional because the characters were blend and shallow- you don't get attach to them because of their humanity, all sorts of stuff happened and that's all. If you want see what I meen, then watch Full Metal Jacket or Hamlet with Mel Gigson- those movies take you from one spectrum of emotion to the other. And the characters are way better established.

@@Supernov4 He's right tho. This film is closer to a Michael Bay production, than it isn't. It's a mass-appeal film. Sure, it's not as cheesy as Transformers, but it's pretty far from a film like Interstellar. Don't be mad that you get easily played by films, emotionally. Most people do. But to find fault with this guys comment because he's spewing truth? "you're not human? LOLOL What does that say? The characters ARE shallow. It's a film our grandmothers and soccer-moms in Alabama would adore, and all that such a thing says about it. Easy-to-digest, simplistic, typical big-budget film for the masses. What it does have going for it however, makes up for at least some of it's writing and character simplicity. The effects were interesting and entertaining to watch. But had they combined that with a far better story, and free of silly/implausible nonsense and corny comic relief, it might have elevated it to something both the film nerds, kids, dads with pudding stains on their shirts, and the easily entertained masses.... all declaring as a masterpiece. On a side note, it's difficult to un-hear Sandra Buttock screeching "WHAT DO I DO? WHAT DO I DO?" over and over again. Wish they'd cast someone else in that role.
