I created this self-portrait as a sample to expand the range of my work as an artist. For example, I would be happy if I could be involved in portraiture or some kind of figure painting in the future. I will also continue with the music-themed flower and bird paintings that I am currently mainly producing.
I have created many works of Japanese painting so far, but I have rarely created portraits. When I was making illustrations, people were my main motif. However, when I first started learning Japanese painting, I tried portrait painting, but found it very difficult to express the texture of human skin using mineral pigments, and I gave up. I sometimes find it difficult to work with mineral pigments, but my skills have improved a little through the experience of creating many works.
I was able to overcome my hesitation of making figure paintings and gain confidence.
今回の自画像作品は、自分のアーティスト活動の仕事の幅を広げるためにサンプルとして制作しました。例えば肖像画や何らかの人物画制作などに今後携わっていけたら幸いです。今メインで制作している音楽をテーマとした花鳥画も続けていきます。
これまでに沢山の日本画作品を描きましたが、人物画をほとんど制作してきませんでした。イラストレーションを描いていたころは人物は私のメインモチーフでした。しかし、日本画を習い始めたばかりの頃、人物画に挑戦しましたが岩絵具を用いた人間の肌の質感表現がとても難しく、挫折してしまいました。今でも岩絵具を扱うことは難しいと感じますが、多くの作品を制作してきた経験によって技術が少し向上しました。
そして人物画への苦手意識が克服できて、自信を得ることが出来ました。
