Making Of...Superman The Movie (1978)

I cut a 30-minute version out of tons of making-of material. So a "making of SUPERMAN THE MOVIE" with only 30 minutes running time. I concentrated on the special effects of that time which were trend-setting for the film industry. Richard Donner opened the door to the superhero genre at a time when no one had even thought of it.

I still get chills from these sequences. When Chris looks left and right and then smiles .. all is right in the world. Magic. Donner did it.

All honesty even to this day you will not remember that Marlon Brando was in this Movie Reeves stole the show and MADE THIS MOVIE WHAT IT IS TILL THIS DAY

You do know that Reeves played the main character in the film, the entire film was about him and the film title is his name, do you? He didn't exactly steal the show.

I want to go back and relive the moment I first saw Superman. Seeing this man as Superman was what my childhood brain always thought it would be. Christopher Reeve as Superman, will always be sketched into my childhood memories. He played Superman so well, not once did my brain consider him or his simple disguise to not be Superman. Even to this day. Rip Christopher Reeve. Thank you for being the Superman we will always remember.

The special effects were better in this masterpiece 45 years ago than most of the crap out nowadays. Remarkable.

It's really incredible what movies like this and the original Star Wars trilogy were able to accomplish back then without the existence of CGI, and in many cases it actually looked BETTER!

This will always be a real life story of Superman in my mind! Not a movie. When I watch Christopher Reeve play this character it’s such a childhood memory. It can’t be beat! He is Superman!
@jedistreaming4006

And to think when he was being rigged for the flying scene's that he controlled his body like if he was a real Superman, the take off, while flying and when landing, I tell you this, it looked more realistic with the minimal technology of the 70's than the current batch of movies that we know is CGI.

Growing up watching Superman was exciting! My imagination was working for this movie and he really existed on tv as the real story of Superman and how he grew up and how great he was!! To this day when I rewatch Superman the music and sound effects give me chills like my mind remembers this hero and has the childhood memories being brought back to life!! It's still very powerful to watch for me. When I found the Richard Donner version of Pt2 like 15 years ago I froze in the store... i grabbed it and went home and watched it right away!!! That was a great day like this movie was reborn and I wasn't used to it but it was great and I love it!!! RIP SUPERMAN. me and my brother (rip) grew up inspired by your movies!!!

Awesome….without Christopher Reeve, Superman wouldn’t have been Superman, he made the whole movie a success….and yes, I believed he/Superman could fly..😘🥰… and the special effects were amazing, beautiful within the art work. For me this version and film of Superman will always be my favorite, especially with Chris Reeve as Superman, Chris portrayed the character outstandingly and with the emotional caring only Superman could have done. Chris was Superman in the film and a great Superman in real life, especially after his accident. He never gave up hope and never lost his love for life. His courage, determination and caring about others was his greatest strength. RIP Chris, may your courage and strength inspire others. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

The special effects made the movies for me, but Christopher did excellent, excellent work. His ballet skills helped make the flying scenes so believable. Helen Slater, her stunt double and both 80's Superboy actors were all just as good. I can't say the same for productions that came after.

An amazing group of talented people solving problems on the fly (no pun) Creating ingenuous effects and techniques that are still used today that made us all believe that Superman was real. Legendary skills. Most of the crew thought the movie would be a massive flop when it was released. How wrong they were. Legendary movie 👌

. I love the whole "...my only son." Superman as Jesus metaphor. I also think the first Lois Lane helicopter rescue is one of the best, if not the best "introductions" to Superman ever. I had the pleasure of seeing this movie in 70 mm at the Manns (as it was called in the 70's) Chinese Theater in Hollwood

Superb documentary and I also think what they said is correct Christopher Reeve is Superman. It’s not that his Superman is outstanding, it’s good, what really sells it for me is that his Clark Kent is absolutely on point. There are both obvious differences such as confidence, assertiveness etc but the little differences such as body language and social awkwardness of Clark Kent are easy to miss or interpret as “goofy”. The scene in the first movie where he’s all set to tell Lois that he is Superman portray this exactly, the one moment where we get the two characters together with the transformations from Clark to Superman and back again.

I despised Brando for his absolute arrogance and over inflated opinion of himself. The lump was too lazy to bother learning lines. Instead, reading from cards held by on set flunkies. Today, I find his performance in the Godfather cringing and laughable. In my opinion, Pacino outshines Brando in that movie, just as Reeve and Hackman, outshine him in this movie. The moment Brando turns up, in the otherwise brilliant Apocalypse Now, I switch it off. Before his boring drawl puts me to sleep. I'll probably get flack for this statement, but I don’t give a 💩
