it requires a special kind of genius (Liam) to listen to the originals and come up with what bits and pieces to pick up from where and how to distort and arrange them to create a completely new legendary track!
Genius aside, its clever use of a sampler. which most electronic producers of today are not capable of, given all the processing and mighty kontakt .. instead of praising the man, praise the machine ...
That is certainly true ... but i believe it's even more impressive if you can back engineer a song like this like jimpavloff did ... Almost identical to the original.
I don't disagree, but in retrospect it always looks more difficult than what it actually is. Sampling surely is an art. But as mentioned before, it's far more harder to reverse engineer a song and take the steps required to build the song with the given samples as is.
Nitras Interactive voodoo people was published 1994 and it's save to assume it was produced in 1993. In that time there was no ableton, convienent warping and other modern stuff. Liam has cutted and glued the track basically by hand and compared to today standards with horrible technic.
I'm blown away by this video. Huge Prodigy fan, and after Keith's passing, cruising youtube for some stuff and found this. Hat's off to you for deconstructing Voodoo People, and rebuilding from ground up.

@@boombooly Liam прослушал тонны материала разных групп и исполнителей, но самое главное - он смог услышать в нём свежее звучание. Затем на том ещё оборудовании 80-х и начала 90-х оцифровал всё, что ему было нужно. Семплы тогда на дискетах хранились, которые были всего 1,44 Мегабайта объёмом, а он оцифровывал пластинки, вырезая нужные семплы и правил их, исходя из личных вкусовых предпочтений. То есть проделал поистине титаническую работу одновременно и продюсера и саунд дизайнера. Представить даже сложно этот труд и то понимание музыки, то чувство синтеза хитового звучания, которое в нём выявилось, проявилось, открылось. А современные диджеи воссоздали и пересвели некоторые из его треков по тем же источниками в современной Интернет-фонотеке, они вырезали из тех песен, которые отслушал Liam те же семплы и показали, как Liam модифицировал их, но нынешние продюсеры применяли уже современные DAW и эффекты. То есть они не с рандомным материалом работали (то есть это не было полным ресинтезом всего с нуля, а ровно тот же материал микшировали и видоизменяли, который использовал тогда, в 90-е, мозг The Prodigy.
да.. самые сильные каверы в сети, которые я когда-либо видел ... это же надо было все семплы надыбать .. подобрать синты и эффекты так чётко... дак потом ещё и видео смонтировать так креативно... за подход и высокоидейный монтаж видео особый респект

за 10 лет это видео не устарело и устареть не может, это одно из крутейших видео на ютубе вообще! так и представляю, как в прошлой жизни автор был виртуозным подражателем магистрам живописи, создавая настолько искусные подделки, что они по значимости превосходили бы оригинал.
если этой версии добавить современное профессиональное сведение, то получится просто Vodoo People HD или что-то типа того. особенно впечатляет Lead, каждый раз когда слушаю оригинал думаю как можно вообще добиться такого звука - а тут всё прям по шагам разложено, и звучит чуть ли не лучше)

I was just thinking the same thing. Making this on a modern DAW is hard enough, let along on the limited technology of the time. Speaks volumes to the sheer genius of Liam's production.

И в то время написать вневременные шедевры. Лиаму пиздец респект наивысшей степени. Автору поклон за талант в репродукции этого дела и раскрытии рецепта. Это охуительно. Я кайфанул, ностальгнул.
I never realized how many "little" details and effort went into The Prodigy tracks (that is in no way downplaying the talent that goes into creating such badass tunes..., and how all those killer beats, sounds and samples all originated and were carefully woven together... especially before all the fancy computer programs we are blessed with (or cursed with, in some respects/opinions) today! I hope to one day even come close to creating music as original, inspiring and brutal as Liam (as well as Maxim and Keith when they add their vocals and energy to the mix). Attending a Prodigy show live is probably in my top 3 or so on my bucket list (sorry Liam and crew, two women at once ranks slightly higher). I will be getting a Prodigy ant logo tattooed on me as soon as I can relearn how to be "financially responsible." And Jim Pavloff... how in the living fuck did you figure out how to recreate/reproduce the samples, sounds, sound effects/manipulation, and editing dead-fucking-nuts???!!! I hope to God you use your talent for the good of mankind, otherwise, we may all be doomed!
Liam most likely wrote it on a Roland W-30, I've got such a keyboard workstation....Simple enough to recreate on the Roland but may run out of sample space! The keyboard only holds 14 seconds, but Liam would've had plenty of other hardware connected by MIDI to deal with samples. The Roland just plays the programmed tune and sends the data to other connected sampler hardware.
This is the highest skills in sampling. I recognized this when I was a kid and could never figure out how the hell Liam did it. Great job on these videos truly but Liam messed with samplers mostly only at the times. Still almost identical to the releases, you're insane Pavloff, RESPECT

DJDreadnought yes but reproducing a track by just listening and then finding the right samples, its fucking hard even if you wrote the track your self to reproduce it exactly. but ya you make a good point
samples are in internet so thats not very difficult part,but how to get to know how Liam messed with them...Many people dont even regognize the samples that were used...including me..i have most of records that were sampled in this song, but there was some suprises i didnt notice before.

This A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Thank you for this insight into who musicians work to create such outstanding results. It is totally beyond my comprehension who you can hear the result and recreate this in your mind on this level of detail. I feel it similar to how people cannot understand the way I look at Atari demos and games and "see" immediately how they were made. I cannot really explain it, but it is "visible" for me. Just your language is music and not hardware and opcodes. I have the highest appreciation for this work and the original impresses me even more now. Happily, I will be hearing it live again in two weeks from now, if things work out as planned.

Гитарный рифф нирваны хороший. А в версии Продиджи просто охуенен. Качает. Впервые это видео увидел лет 9 назад, до сих пор иногда вспоминаю. По-моему гениальное сэмплирование, я бы в жизни так не догадался сделать. Наверное, одно из лучших видео на ютубе. Аж захотелось трек скачать и оригинал, и ремикс от пендулум.
