@Daniela: you don't have to buy a new dresser! Just paint the one you have in a lighter colour ( maybe distressing it?), and use the same paint/treatment to match the nighstands. And of course new knobs!...Alexandra is very right about painting the walls WHITE. 😊

Hi Alexandra! Another idea to make with the last subscribers room its a diy that lone fox did with ratan and the same bookshelf, he covered with ratan so you couldnt see what it was inside. Thanks for all your ideas, you are such a great decor expert! 😍😍

For that last makeover. She could also just get the vinyl glass covers and cover the glass. This can be a temporary solution. If she decided to change it she could. I did this myself as we don't have much cupboard space.

I also thought this, Lauren could cover the glass door somehow, even just the bottom half. Then she could have the cupboards on "display mode" in the top half and "hide the junk mode" in the bottom half.

Are you using an application to draw and colour the room designs? My friend is really struggling with visualizing how to lay out his bachelor suite - placement, wood tones, mixing the colours, shapes. I wish there was something easy he could use to draw it out on the computer .

I agree, Daniela has an amazing bedroom. If she is needing to save money and she actually is happy with the form/function of the dresser and bedside tables, she could just "freshen" them up with a nice warm paint and new knobs...plus this could leave more funds for a nicer rug than she might have gotten because it won't feel like such a financial hit with completely replacing the dresser and tables.

Charmin Savage I totally agree. I see no benefit to adding white paint or white curtains to the lovely palette she already created. The dresser and nightstands could pick up on one of the colors in the bedding, for example, and/or the drawer faces or tops could maybe be resurfaced with rattan or leather. I see no need for new pieces. It just needs to be lightened up. Maybe some linen curtains in the golden yellow color? Alexandra is right about the curtain rod, rug, lights, and shelf though.

I agree also...as she likes the boho/eclectic look then updating the dresser and bedside cabinets by changing the knobs and painting or using contact paper (or even wallpaper) will give a a much more individual result than plain 'mid century modern) stuff. As would an accent wall rather than painting the whole room white. Though decorative curtain panels to soften the windows would be nice!

I have totally done it old school with graph paper where one square equals one foot. I measure the room and cut out all the furniture from sticky note paper so I can try different layouts. For me it was super fun. And surprisingly easy. I just needed a tape measure, graph paper, sticky notes and a pen and pencil (and good eraser). 😁

Negative on the ceiling fan. Are you kidding?! A lot of California homes don't actually have Air Con and the ceiling fan is the only thing that's going to save her during the summer.

I am the opposite, I just start moving furniture around and then have a small breakdown when everything is chaotic and I don't know what to du but then i pull myself together just try things and I'm so happy in the end😂

Wouldn’t that be fun if you gave virtual directions to a subscriber on rearranging a furniture setting and have them move things around on the spot? Kind of like this one but recording in a Zoom-like setting? Not sure how to do it, but maybe you’d know.

The last one is so beautiful and cozy! It's so hard to style open shelves and feeling pressured to have only beautiful stuff but I hope she pulls it off. And some type of upholstery on that seating and pretty pillows it will be such a cozy spot

Safety Moment: on the west coast we are waiting for the next big earthquake - it is not recommended that you hang anything over your bed - so if you are going to hang up a picture or a shelf, please make sure it is well secured to the wall and does have glass.

Good job virtually!!! Or virtually, good job!! LOL Anywho, everyone always says get rid of the ceiling fans. However, I live in Calif and we have them in every room except bathrooms. Why? Not for beautiful decor but so hot, so hot and you just can't run the air conditioner 24/7. The fans are needed for that. Make sense?

Hi Alexandra! I’m new to your channel and I love it so much! I’m hoping to move into my first apartment within a year!! And I’ve been doing lots of research on decor options. So my question is: how do you incorporate those knick knack decor items that don’t match any of your color scheme or style, but they are sentimental because maybe it’s from a loved one or it reminds you of a sweet time? I don’t want to hide them away but I also don’t like that they don’t really go with anything I’m going for.

With Malin I think floating the sofa in front of the rad is a great idea but she has a ledge over her rad , so I think maybe it’s possible without the console table, do you think that would be okay? Her rad is set up so purty though I am almost sad to hide it. With Lilian I love all your ideas ...I am still hoping someone takes the moon behind the bed idea that I got from your nursery idea but they also have cool removeable wallpaper and murals at wall pops or minted that are cool. You are awesome Alexander, I would be so stuck trying to come up with ideas on the fly. All your ideas are great (by the way you art over her bed matches a little pice of art in DIY Dani’s video the other day, did you notice lol?) thank you for taking the time to help us and keep us entertained. By the way I was playing design home earlier and in a nursery they used your ikea light!

I also wanted to place my couch in the middle of the room facing the door. But actually sitting on the couch and gazing out of the window I would definitely prefer this, also for vitamin d. I would also not putting something in front of a window because it troubles to open the window and closing the curtains.

I was thinking maybe if she can't change out the ceiling fan, she could maybe change the light fixture on it? Or at the very least wrap them in a cane/rattan mesh or stain the glass with lines of color.

Lauren - you could cover the bottom half of the cabinet doors with rattan (@Lonefox has a good DIY of this on his channel), then you can keep things that need to stay together, together and the top half could be styled like Alexandra suggested.. just a thought! 😅 @Alexandra Great tips and I love the room doodle graphics, super cute!

Thanks for the great tips, Alexandra! When I have trouble styling a cabinet or a shelf, I find it helps to take a photo or look at it through a mirror. The different perspective helps highlight what isn't working (sort of like having a second pair of eyes!)

Hmm definitely disagree with the last one -- separating out all the elements from the same collection (like the drinkware set) will make it harder for her to use them. I think if she just clustered things better on the shelves, it would make all the difference, because they seem awkwardly spread out. the blue/white canisters, for example, would look super cute next to each other because of their similarity in style but difference in height. I think the color groupings totally make sense, especially since we all organize our books that way now -- but maybe she could alternate color shelf, neutral shelf, color shelf, neutral shelf in each cabinet to bring them together. LOVE the virtual design advice idea!!!! can't wait to see people's finished rooms!

Oh no, that's unfortunate! I can maybe help a little! If you're able to paint, I'd suggest white walls and maybe even 1 accent wall. Try to light up every corner - table lamps, tall floor lamps, pendant lighting. Add mirrors, artwork of the outdoors, fake plants, metallic decor.... Hope any of these helps!

How do we submit for next time? I have an office/guest room that i keep changing because i just can't figure out the weird amount of doors in this space or the proper decor with this dark furniture i'm stuck with (my husband likes dark furniture) I need help!

Have you tried taking unnecessary door(s) off the hinges? Or possibly covering up unused ones with curtains? Are you able to try contact paper on the furniture? Are your walls dark as well?

If you like white marble you could try that, or even a lighter wooden plank look. You should be able to get contact paper at any Walmart even now for less than $10 per roll.
