A few weeks back, while attending IMTS, i talked with an indicator maker factory sales person about the intersection of watch making and precision instruments. This is like the realization of that conversation. Thanks!
That has to be the best looking dial indicator I have seen. If you were to make a batch of those I have no doubt you would sell them without issue. I’d certainly buy one to add to my toolbox.
This is exquisite. I mean, not that that's out of the ordinary for you, Chris, but... wow. So gorgeous. And that lettering! I'd love to see more on that piece of things!
If that was a typical say, "Mitutoyo" instrument, it would look nice. Knowing and watching you make it Chris, somehow raises the WOW factor. A proprietary instrument is still made by a person, and I wonder where the "Personality" goes to.
As much as i admire Chris' work, and i do a lot, I find it more bewildering that over 3 thousand people watched this without liking it - what a lack of empathy. This dial background is a piece without margin for error - you have to do it all right from the get go.
From my experience, lots of devices that support RU-vid (TV, firecube, etc.) Have a poor implementation of the thumbs up. Not everything is as easy as phone and PC to hit the thumbs up. Plus (from vids I've watched) I think the algorithm takes percentage of video watched over the number of thumbs up in its consideration. Ie, watching the video to the end supports more than the like button.
May I beg something? There are lots of home engineers who would LOVE to buy dial indicators cheap off eBay. But they're (almost) almost always a little sticky (the dial indicators, not the home engineers :-) ) A video showing how to service one, preferably using engineer-style equipment, not specialist watching making (cleaning) equipment would be of great value to a hell of a lot of people. Given your particular combination of skills, you're almost uniquely positioned to make such a video. Pretty please?
Interesting, I 'm planning to make a dial indincator from begin to end For me I think the best way is start with a reed comparator or macrocator that use simple to make and less mobile parts and safire bearings Thank so much for teach too many things over the time
I'm pretty sure you're like a demigod or something but have you ever had an off day where nothing works out? What does that look like? Genuinely curious. Coming from a guy that depending on how the stars align can spend all day trying to do something that on any other day would take 5 minutes.
