Emmy, if you put the dye in the freezer for awhile and then hit if firmly on the counter, the pasta should come right out.

I owned one of these back in the day and when it comes to cleaning just wait! Once the unused pasta dries up it just falls right off of everything. Then cleanup is very simple from that point.

I was going to comment the opposite that if you clean right away and not let dry a good flushing with hot soapy water would probably clean the dyes pretty well, but either way I could see it not being too bad.

I finally had to throw away my Set it and Forget it the other day. I've had it for 10 years and it was my mother's before that, and who knows how long she had it. That thing got a lot of use, it lasted forever and it worked wonderfully. Not sure there's anything I didn't make in it except for soup. I bought the extra baskets for it so I could "grill" fish. steaks, veges, etc. Was going to buy another one but opted for an Air Fryer Toaster Oven instead. Regretting that decision. Sadly the As Seen on TV stuff today is nowhere near the quality of the Popeil machines.

I have a little pointed pin just for cleaning the dies and clean up is a breeze. I use the spirolina flour and it makes delishous pasta. The noise doesn’t bother me as I am used to it. One tip- let the pasta dry in the dies before you clean them, tap them on the counter lightly and most of the dried pasta will come out.

I miss a similar machine I had. 1. You can, if you like, mix with a different die installed while your intended die stays hot in the water bath. Switch out before extruding. 2. You can add some oil to the bath, which may help. 3. Try pouring your oil with the spout at the top, for more control. 4. If your pasta starts out ugly, you can add it back in to the machine. Cleanup is a pain. I would make several runs in a row, to freeze. Make the effort worth the trouble. Your videos are always fun to watch.

Wonderful!!! Brought back memories of when I worked in a small pasta shop. The Ronco machine is exactly like the large, industrial machine we used - only in plastic & much smaller. The dies on the industrial machine are made of brass and would heat up as the dough was pushed through them. This would limit the amount of pasta you could make at one go. The clean-up factor is just the same, big or small. Those pesky little holes full of dough!!! We just soaked them in cool water for quite a while and then scrubbed them with a stiff brush. All the dough came out very easily. Most of it sort of dissolved in the cool water. You could also blow through the die once it has soaked long enough. We didn’t do that in the pasta shop, of course! But, at home, you could do that and then wash it well. Loved the video. I have no suggestions for you. Looking forward to your next one. 👵🏻🐾💕🇨🇦

I have one I got when they first came out. My favorite was always the angel hair pasta. I use to make it for my parents, I added a mixture of dried herbs with the flour & egg. Mostly garlic powder & parsley. Try it, it's very good. They had a metal tool that came with the thing to clean the disks holes out. I enjoyed the Ronco commercials too. I also have 2 of the Ronco dehydrators too. I used those a lot, when I dried mints , it would scent the whole house. When adding spinach to the pasta machine, you can blend fresh leaves into the liquid mixture using a stick blender.

Ashamed to admit this but it was easier to buy the pasta. Cleanup was a pain. For me it was the kitchen equivalent of a treadmill in the family room.

I had a yogurt machine. You had to get the milk warmed up to the right temperature (115° fahrenheit), over night cooking time. If that was not enough, more cooking time. Chilling time. I used it about three times and it was easier just to buy the yogurt. It went to the back of the cabinet and there it stayed. I was moving and I gave it to a friend of mine.

It makes me happy that this actually works. I spent so many sleepless nights watching infomercials as a teen and Ron was the man.

Well, that was satisfying to watch. I don't think our household eats enough to get a pasta maker, but if we ever start a family, it would be a good addition to the pantry.

After these tests, what do you do with the vintage machines? Do you keep them? Do you have a whole room full of old gadgets?

SO FUN!! I watched the infomercial so many times as a kid!! Comforting somehow! Also love the dehydrator one!!! The assistant was a bit much, over-acting, but didn't stop me from watching it whenever it was on! :)

I have a Phillips Pasta Maker and belong to a group on FB and we have discovered that if you turn off the machine, let the dough rest for about 30 minutes, then mix again, then extrude you will get a silkier and better pasta. You can rest the dough as many times as you'd like, but usually once or twice will work well. Use a dough/vegetable scraper, or thin garrote/cheese wire if you have it, and cut your pasta from the die that way.

When it comes to kitchen gadgets, I follow a strict "if cleaning takes longer than using, don't buy it" policy.

Have a look at the other comments above yours though, from people who've already used and cleaned it! To recap: either let the pasta dry in the holes or freeze the dyes before trying to clean them. Either way, the pasta falls right out on it's own!
@liverocks62
@liverocks62 Год назад
It’s really easy to clean, I promise. You just have to let it dry up first, it will come off like a breeze, the holes will clean up better if you let it dry a bit also.

I have my "Set It & Forget It" rotisserie and use it quite often, usually for whole chickens, boneless turkey breasts, and pork roasts! I have a weird built-in BBQ in a rockwall in my kitchen, and it fits perfectly in there. I just bought this pasta maker based on this video, very excited to try it :)

My Dad was a huge Ron Popeil fan. He owned lots of his gadgets, including the pocket fisherman! Dad passed away in 85 before the pasta machine came out. I know without a doubt he would have bought one! Mom and I used to joke that Dad helped make Ron a millionaire! This was a great video!

Hi Emmy! I would like to suggest you a "poor" recipe from my grandmother. She used to prepare me this as a snack or for breakfast when I was little. In Italian we call it "uovo sbattuto" and in Venetian dialect "sbaturin". We serve it with grissini (I liked most with the "Bibanesi" ones)- dried bread- white biscuits or we put coffee in it. The ingredients for one serving is a raw yolk and a tablespoon of white sugar. Mix it well until it becomes creamy and slightly white. That's it! My grandmother use to eat it almost every day during the WW2

If your video and RU-vid had been available in the '80/'90s, this machine would be in every household in the US and Canada, and probably everywhere in the EU too. People can watch your video anytime, day or night, on demand, and it's more informative than anything I remember from way back when, late at night. I also like how you're just showing how it works, but you're not trying to sell it. *That* is how people really want to learn about these kinds of things!
