Leslie Doyle of the Sweet Tomato Test Garden in Las Vegas, NV talks about making plant label and plant markers.
These are easy to make, easy to read. I bought the paint pens from Aaron Brother's Art Marts and the air conditioning flashing and 1/2" electrical conduit from Lowe's.

I LOVE YOUR IDEA !!!!I want to label all my plants like you see in a botanical garden..common name, scientific name, area of origin, etc...I THINK your idea will work very well....again THANK YOU..........

Was it just me who envisaged someone falling onto these and losing an eye or something? I know it would take the botanic garden look away, but a ball pit ball with a hole drilled in it would fit over the top of that pipe nicely and would be waterproof. You could even spray paint them grey or silver if you didn't like the bright colours. Otherwise, it's a great idea if the materials used don't rust.

+Janet McArthur I know what you mean, I have the same tho'ts about a child poking out an eye with a pencil, or tripping over a shoelace in front of a bus, or stepping in front of a car while talking on a cell phone. Someone ought to do something about all of this. I round the corners of my signs and have for some time now.

just a thought, put your printed paper on top of the foil and then use a pen to trace it. I'd think it would leave an indentation.

The paint pen writing has lasted for a few years - still going. It doesn't look as fresh as it did 4 or 5 years ago - I think I will freshen them up a bit.

It does indent a little, but it hurts my arthritic fingers to press that hard. Stronger people that can press hard would like your suggestion.

It appears to be an issue with your computer. We checked it here and it plays to the end.

I’ve used paint pens on rocks. Wood. Metal. They never last in the bright sun. I collect rhipsalis and they are kept under shade cloth most of the time. I’ve STILL been unable to find markers that last unless I use the ugly plastic hang tags. I hate those :(

Hello, I was wondering how did the Indigo Rose test work out? I planted mine too late in the season so most of the fruit didn't grow to full size.

Yes, but oil-based markers persist the longest. Acrylic markers less persistent. Permanent alcohol markers are very fugitive. You can always refresh your printing every few years.
