If your ad has no escape then yeah, you are maxing that first.

He has a video about it uploaded here. It’s basically for your AD that has less mobility. I think he maxes W most of the time than the usual maxing of E or Q. 😄

E max sucks ass, since it doesn't reduce the CD anymore. Q max is only good if you need the CD to be really low (if fights are already gonna be really long in midgame, or you're not very consistent at landing them). W max is best with immobile carries, but is generally just really good. More mobility is always nice, and Thresh is the only champion that provides that kind of mobility for your teammates (except maybe Bard with E). The shield also gets pretty big considering it's AOE and even just using it for temporary vision when you're out of wards but really need to check a brush is pretty good. There are just more different use cases for W overall; really overloaded ability.

Against this specific matchup the second Q of Thresh is just a death sentence(hehe). You get killed in half a second.

@pluckythechicken It's safer to fish and let your ADC get some auto's off on the enemy and then you can fish again and double tap Q for an all in if it guarantee's a kill

I think its mostly for the shield

it could be for shorter cooldown, you can provide more movement around the map for you allies

1) Aphelios has no mobility, so the lower W CD can enable a lot of plays and escapes. 2) E max is currently really, really bad. It doesn't reduce the CD anymore, and unless you get tons of AAs off in a fight, the damage won't really matter; you would rather have the larger shield. 3) Most people max Q for CD. If you can land hooks consistently, and there are not gonna be any really long fights, you won't need lower Q CD, while lower W CD will always be helpful even for just moving around the map or providing temporary vision. TL;DR: You don't want to max E anymore, it's generally pretty bad. Max Q if you need more hooks (either because you're not great at landing them, or fights are going to be very long so you actually get multiple hooks off), and Max W if you don't need lower Q CD and/or your ADC lacks mobility.
