This video shows the highlights from the Taffy making process. They do things the old school way using machines from nearly 100 years ago. If you're ever in the area it's interesting to see and fun to watch.
I sew and knit, let me tell you, few things are made like they used to be! The only thing I know that’s still made just as well is spinning wheels (little ones for home use), as they’re still hand built. But sock knitting machines, for example, are all antiques. And the best sewing machines are by far and away antiques! There are some good modern ones, if you want to spend several thousand on a single sewing machine, but the really good ones are the antique cast iron ones.
The company that made it went broke because everyone that needed one, had one. Very short sighted company director. Idiot probably made quality spare parts for them as well and trained people to fix them. Idiot!
Do you think he was from Jersey? Or, Queens, or someplace else in NYC? I'm sure he's not an original Texan! (I live on the west coast, not good at distinguishing all of the east coast accents.)
I don't care what you say. I'll take an old tyme confectionery in a historical district over a modern candy store ANY DAY of the week... The old tyme aesthetic is just mindblowingly classic
I seriously hate when people judge someone else's occupation. If you want pizza delivered who delivers it? Are you making fun of them then? What about a cab driver if you've messed up so much you HAVE to rely on taxis! Or a caregiver that is taking care of your grandmother because you don't have time or simply do not want to do the dirty work. We all serve our purpose here. I think this man loves his job making candy. I know I enjoy watching the process. Imagine a world without candy makers. It would be depressing. We need different wonders in the world. Quit judging. I hope everyone has an awesome week. No matter what your position is. You're needed and you are loved. ❤
Spokandy in Spokane, Washington had a taffy pulling machine that they had close to the main window until some time in the 1980s that would be going, pulling the taffy. I remember the taffy pulling machine from the early 70s. They had it set up so people couldn’t get close to it. The candy store remodeled and the machine is no longer set up so people can watch. It was interesting to see the candy maker in this video making the taffy. It makes me want to go out and buy some.😁
I feel like this guy would sell me biker speed down by the pier or teach me how to make Taffy.....and it would be the same kinda speech only different subject matter.
One of the best parts of visiting Atlantic City in the early 60s (pre-Trump) was going to James Salt Water Taffy store. My favorite was the chocolate covered taffy. Fralinger's was pretty good too. Ever since the casinos bought up the prime beach front property, it has turned into a dumping ground for New York City scum and scammer type stores selling Chinese made crap. AC had a beautiful beach which is now being neglected. What a shame.
