The meaning is there, waiting for you Thomas. It's in small things. A draught of air. A voice in the street.

This day and age he wasn't that old; younger than Jack Nicholson, Michael Caine etc. RIP.

@mouthforwar93 writing, or art for that matter, is less than one percent talent as a natural gift. Talent is unending patience in constant failure, talent does not equal ambition.

@Necronpc99 The ability to write well can, of course be a gift- and people like Heaney are usually extraordinarily gifted to begin with, and they apply hard work to an existing proficiency. Whatever self-help book you're using for guidance is lying to you. "There’s never going to be a united Ireland, you know. So why don’t you let them fly the flag?” Giving those Neanderthal Unionists a cosy Collective Security blanket ......Way to go Seamus....

What those Neandethal Unionists don't realise is that they're Irish.

Some say that poetry, like opera, is a hoax. They don't know the meaning of beauty.

A great sense of loss, grief. What a wholly likeable, modest man. Ireland's greatest poet ever .

It's striking just how lucid he is, even as an old man, he isn't wishy-washy or pretentious, he's clear in thought and word.

He was only in his 70s here, hardly old.
