They look wonderful. Thanks for the tutorial. It's lovely to see them all hung out. It'd be gr8 to see a future video of visiting the little birds in their new homes. Take care.
My Grandfather would shake and tap the Gould's like a drummer would drum before cleaning them.It really helps. We use ours for housing for Purple Martin's. We also cut to form out of soda cans a little half moon awning over the hole.Just use some caulking for glue. And put a piece of dowel under the hole for a Perch.Enjoy you videos. Thanks from Mississippi.🐦
There are several components to creating an amazing design. One place I discovered which successfully combines these is the Aviary Magic Method (check it out on google) without a doubt the best info i've heard of. Check out this unbelievable site.
Thanks. Only had families in 2 of them. This year I will add some gravel for weight to keep them from blowing in the wind that a commenter told me to try. Thanks for watching.
You might try putting your wire in a drill so when it spins the hook it tears the seed stuff up! They say to leave most in there and they use it for nest material!
Those birds are going to put the word out that there is a new subdivision in town! Lol I need more trees so I can get some of those beautiful gourds! You did an AMAZING Job on all of those! 👏🏻 Those fetch a pretty penny at the farmers 👨🌾👩🌾 market and at flea markets as well! I love ❤ all the colors you chose! 😍 Happy Bird Watching!!! 🤗🐦🦉🕊🦜😃
Looks Great the birds will be in their glory. !!!Maybe a Tip for you ? Tie the Jute rope through the 2 eye lites so that the rope is tied in a circle. This will allow the birdhouses to SELF LEVEL. This goes for Anything that you Hang so one side is not longer than the other side.I hope I typed this right?
Hopefully birds will like them and move in. I don't want them self leveling in the wind we get and I would rather have 2 separate ropes in case one should break. Thanks for watching.
Thanks. It was a fun project but the birds really didn't like them. I was told they are light and blow around in the wind scaring some birds of. Thanks for watching.
I love this. Thanks for sharing! I just planted a few today and wondered what they looked like so hence my RU-vid search. Very cute birdhouses. Keep us updated.
The birds didn't really like them. I was told because they were very light and the constant winds we have caused them to swing around so try to hang them in a protected area. Those vines were 75 feet long so leave plenty of space. Good luck. Thanks for watching.
They turned out real nice. I hope you have many hours of enjoying bird watching. It's one of my favorite things to do. I'm looking forward to more videos of bird watching that you catch on film. Thanks. Nice to see you getting some use from your wife's cart too. :)
Thanks. We will soon find out if the birds actually will use them. We have an amazing selection of birds in the summer. Between 2 and 3 she watches a soap opera so I can steal it then. Thanks for watching.
Those needle nose pliers would have been good for getting the inside of the gords out, I am interested in the type and number of birds you get using these boxes, hope you have lots of takers.
I was amazed by how fibrous and tough the contents were. Nothing but cold, rain, and wind since they went up and there is no interest yet. Thanks for watching.
I saw on another video the crafter used two drill holes and a landscape cloth staple with two quick bends to turn the wire into holes to hand the gourds
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 I was trying to be helpful not critical the staples are: cheap, uniform, ideal for the task, dead simple, readily available at most hardware stores and quick.
I got some seeds from a person and want to make a trellis and plant the seeds...this is my goal...both for us and our birds...and maybe sell some...thank you for your video!
I really like that idea I may have used the holesaw on the bottom to clear out the inside and then glue it back with some grooves for the water release but great idea
Hi from the west coast of Canada, BC..i'm searching 4 ideas on providing a Hummingbird house & i luv ur idea! Very functional and attractive. They r organic & i would think that your gourd birdhouse would make an excellent habitat for a hummingbird. Thank u
I do not think hummingbirds make nests in enclosed areas. All ours make walnut shell sized nests in our shrubs. The birds didn't really like the gourds because they are light and really swing around form the winds we get. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video, I have a couple follow up questions... 1. Did you ever use the seeds from the inside to plant more? Wondering if the seeds are viable. 2. Anything you would do different now that they've been handing for a couple of seasons?
No, tossed the seeds and decided never to plant them again. They are to light and swing wildly in the winds we get so the birds didn't really like them. Thanks for watching.
No problems with other animals and the birds only used a couple of them. The problem seems to be they are so light the wind blows them around. Thanks for watching.
Love the little wire hangers you made! For the health of the baby birds, next time please consider spraying these with very diluted clorox water FIRST to kill the microscopic mold spores then allow to re-dry completely A strong white vinegar would work also but the odor will linger awhile. In our wet NE climate, mine are lucky to last 2 years, but depends on how wet your summer gets too. Love those paint colors! Hope you have lots of baby birds this summer. Tufted Titmouse, Chickadees and Wrens like those feeders
I figured the paint would seal any of that in. I will use the vinegar on the next batch. The biggest problem seems to be cleaning them out at the end of the season so next years birds will reuse them. Hopefully some birds will move in. The bluebirds just started moving in the boxes and are very active now building nests. Thanks for watching.
Only a couple had small nests. I was told them being so light and swinging in all the high winds we get probably scared most birds away. Thanks for watching.
They didn't like them. With all the high winds we get they blew around too much chasing the birds out. Need something heavier in windy areas. Fon project anyway. Thanks for watching
Mine seems to be rotting instead of drying. They are outside, because I don't have a garage. Should they be covered? They are off the ground, but exposed to the weather.
They shouldn't be rotting. Check that the stems don't have borer holes in them. If you live in a warmer area that may have something to do with it. Thanks for watching.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 About how many seed should I plant if I want to end up with 20 gourds. Thanks for the tip on needing lots of room. Wife and I have 5 acres so we have room. Have a Jesus filled day Greg in Michigan
They are slow growing so you may want to plant at least 6 seeds to get some larger gourds. Many small ones went in the compost that just needed a longer season.
I don't think it makes a difference. I saw a comment that perches allow rogue birds to eat babies so your better off without them. Thanks for watching.
Normally, folks 1st clean the outside. Pluse you don't work with them until you can shake the seeds easily first. Then all the insides fall out easiky.
I am sanding a few gourds I grew last summer right now first time I have ever don’t this . Good video. I noticed some black on the inside of a couple of mine. But still very hard not rotten. Most videos I have watched say a mask and gloves is a must. Is the black dangerous? Also is any type of Sanitation needed or that can be skipped? Also is the paint or rubber skin harmful to the birds? Is there a video of how these houses did? Birds use, did they last a long time? If not painted will they not last very long? Sorry million questions
Birds didn't like them. From what I was told they are not great in windy places like where I live. They blow around too much and scare the birds. Only 2 had nests. I am going to try some gravel for weight this year. Black is probably mold and I don't think it is good for you or the birds. Mine are still in good shape and will go back out soon. Thanks for watching.
I only had a couple nests in the small ones. I have been told ot was probably because of them getting bounced around in the wind. Going to try some gravel in them for weight this year. Thanks for watching.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 Did you get any homesteaders in your gourds? I was surprised to see a pair of barn swallows take up residence in one of mine. (I grow and make birdhouses too) I thought swallows only made mud nests so I was really surprised. Carolina wrens made a home in another one I had hanging at about 6 foot high off the low end of our carport.
