So with regards to the intro, I've been doing some baseball research lately, and the term "cracker" actually has a wild history. Nobody's actually 100% on where it came from, but the best guess is that it's actually from Scots, _craic,_ which is a big talker who won't shut up. There were a LOT of Scotsmen settling the South early in American history. It could also be from "firecracker", for a similar meaning or a guy with tons of energy. Where it gets _wild,_ is that the first baseball team in Atlanta was actually called the Atlanta Crackers -- the term had a similar kind of regional pride that "redneck" sometimes carries now, instead of being insulting. BUT, since this was pre-integration era in baseball, that also meant Atlanta had a Negro Leagues team called the _Atlanta Black Crackers,_ also known as the ABCs.
