In this video I make two new tap wrenches to work in conjunction with my new tap follower.
Simple but very effective.

Hi Randy, thanks for the comment and support. Yep, used the large one and tap follower tonight in anger, absolutely fantastic, couldn't be happier with them. I will be formally addressing the 1k milestone in next week's video, thank you for your support of the channel, much appreciated indeed. Cheers, Jon

I didn't notice an ad on this video, but Google did start putting ads on mine and since it was mostly for friends/family, I just took them all down. Not sure what kind of revenue they were expecting to get from videos that averaged 50 views. Google greed I guess. Nice job with the videos, +1 subscriber.

Hi TheWyleECoyote, thanks for the comment. Yup, they put ads on my channel too so I thought I might as well sign up and at least get a bit of the revenue to help support the shop a bit (and it is just a bit, won't be retiring any time soon lol). Cheers, Jon

Good idea having the internal Allen head pinch bolt Jon. The simple screw handle designs tend to loosen from grip twist when used and this should get around that. I must give it a go one day. Cheers Rob

Hi Rob, thanks for the comment. I can't take any credit for this design, I spotted it in Joe's video and thought I must make some of those. Being stainless, they will outlast me I think. Cheers, Jon

Very nice...I have a thing for tap wrenches...I have done several videos about tap wrench variations that I have conceived. I really don't like most of the commercial units available, so I set out to make my own , even did my TMC 2020 on 1 of them. Just haven't built any this small yet.
@jonsworkshop

Hi Craig, thanks for the comment. If you do make any this size, copy this idea as I did from Joe Pi, they are a dream to use, very useful indeed. Cheers, Jon

wonder if you would get enough clamping force with a knurled screw , might make it eazier to change taps in those tapwrenches as for the adverts : adblock works verry well keeping them away , dont have them even on monitized channels its not verry expensive (think they ask for a "donation" ) and works on basicly all websites
@jonsworkshop
@jonsworkshop 3 года назад
Hi Watahyahknow, thanks for the. I think this would work for the smaller wrench, but the larger one probably not enough torque. They are a little clunky needing an Allen key agreed, but they are smashing to use, really pleased with them, a whole world of difference from the cheap imported rubbish. Joe Pie nailed it with these, which is why I shamelessly copied them, well worth the effort. Cheers, Jon

Great video. I'd prefer more white board with explanations, especially maths, than stickers that could go next to the whiteboard or anywhere in your shed.

Hi Greg, thanks for the comment. Lol, you are the first one to say that! Don't worry, I will always try and talk through stuff at the board before I make it (including some maths now and again as appropriate). If you like this stuff, go and check out Part 1 of making the Dickson tool post holders if you haven't already seen it! I went quite deep on this one! Cheers, Jon

A nice video and finished job Jon👍 An alternative way could have been to turn the front threads off the cap head screw so that it is a clearance fit in the wrench body and thread the back end of the hole so you don't have to tap in so deep. Still, either way, it's a neat tap holder!👌 Do the subscribers get a slice of the celebration cake Jon?🎂🙂 Atb Carl
@jonsworkshop
@jonsworkshop 3 года назад
Hi Carl, thanks for the comment and suggestion, great idea by the way, if I make any more, I may do this as the next size up will be impossible to tap at full depth. No cake mate lol, you are all on diets I believe (as I should be looking at those T Shirts ironed on a wok that I keep wearing)! I will be formally addressing the 1k in next week's video. Cheers, Jon

Great job, great channel. I noticed the finish is beautiful ... except for the flat on the small one. The end mill tool marks are quite bad. Even a belt sand would be better, but short of a surface grinder, a fly cutter would clean up the end mill tool marks and leave a nicer finish. If clearance is an issue in this case, there are still other solutions. I've used a boring bar

Well done Jon, another good project. Could the cap head screws be replaced for long series grub screws as opening the bolt head clearance hole might cause a problem with remaining wrench wall thickness. I usually only use 316 stainless as it is mostly free or just scrap value from sailing boat prop shafts at boatyards.
@jonsworkshop
@jonsworkshop 3 года назад
Hi Fred, thanks for the comment. Yes, that could be done however the wall thickness at the counterbore is a good 2mm per side in stainless so plenty strong enough. You are a lucky guy, I wish I had access to some cheap or even free materials, nothing like that where I live so I end up paying top whack for everything (especially with delivery charges on top)! @@jonsworkshop Hey mate, went down to the workshop last night and had made a few chips, making the small wrench, setting top-slide AN1 @8, when I hit LX, 10mm, D dia, was around 12-13mm?? I will have to check my cals, LX + AN1 length was 31.5?? am i missing something Jon?? think i need a Frothy to think about it :)
@jonsworkshop
@jonsworkshop 3 года назад
@@garybodnar1085 Hi Gary, very strange, you had me a bit concerned so went out in the shop tonight to check mine, get 31.5 (ish) for LX + AN1 length, measured Dia D and get about 10.1??? All I can suggest is either the compound moved off the 8 deg mark, or your O/D (Dia E) is not 16mm, there is no other possible explanation I can think of. As it turns out, I wish I had gone for about 12mm on this one anyway as the angles look a bit steep on mine, plus more strength round the centre hole. Very bizarre indeed. Let me know if you fathom it. Cheers, Jon
