I honestly love the custom lumber area but you forgot to build a fire department! 😆 As for a name for the new township it should probably be related to the new lumber company, so Lewis... something: Lewis Village, Lewisville, Lewis Mills, Lewis River, etc. I really enjoyed today's video. Also, sometime in the future when you're feeling particularly silly please name a future town Otisburg as a reference to Superman (1978).

Hey Phil, I would say that it actually makes sense for that soccer field to be lower than the grade. We have them everywhere where I live. They double as flood control. With the constant harvesting of trees, those hills won’t absorb as much water as they used to.

Cole from Maine here. love what you did with the forestry industry! Being from Maine, logging is a huge industry here. In Maine, hunting, hiking and snowmobiling are big recreational past times, and often take place in the logging and timber lots that are currently not being cut. There are logging roads that go between the different wood lots for easy access for heavy equipment, and allow for the recreational activities. Would be cool to see this implemented, maybe with adding paths or dirt roads that break up the different trees of different ages, with the odd hunting cabin or camp ground. Often times abandoned and unused rail lines are used as hiking, hunting and snowmobile trails. Maybe an abandoned rail line could be added looking like it once ran through the area before the uses and industries changed. Just a thought to make the area look like it has a richer history and multiple uses. Also, my suggestion for the town name for the new industry area would be Lewiston. Lewis Lumber Company is expanding, and there's a city in Maine called Lewiston that used to be a big mill town, I think it would be a fitting name for Lewis Lumber Company and their new lumber mill and a fun nod to Lewiston Maine.
@powerof900
@powerof900 3 месяца назад
I think a perfect example of the logging roads I'm talking about would be north of Sebec Lake in Maine. Check out google maps. Definitely respecting the topography, branching out like fingers to reach the different wooded areas

Oregonian here. Our forestry companies actually have full time public liaison employees that can be called to see if a particular logging road is open to recreation and what type. In addition to off roading, horseback riding, mountain biking and gravel biking are really popular. All they ask in return is if you report anything that is against their policies. It gives the public a huge amount of recreational area that often connects into national forest and BLM land and gives the forestry company monitoring of remote areas.
@madzap
@madzap 3 месяца назад
On the soccer field, I would put a tall fence along the goal end that is at the roadway. This does two things, stops balls from landing on cars driving by, and stops kids from dashing in to the road to retrieve a ball when they ultimately miss the goal - don't ask how I know this...
@DuelScreen
@DuelScreen 3 месяца назад
Yes. That area doesn't feel finished. I'm not sure I like the surface covering the area past the soccer field either but I'm OK with it. Add some fencing for sure. Maybe a hotdog vendor and bathrooms. It's a little too plain and I would be shocked if there wasn't at least a little parking.
@spamfilter32
@spamfilter32 3 месяца назад
The fence isn't necessary. I live right next to a soccer field that has the goal line but up against a high frequency residential (though low density) road and has no fence. It has never been a problem. The fence would be expensive to maintain, and would limit access to the park grounds.
@skyechimes658
@skyechimes658 Месяц назад
@@spamfilter32we have “backstop” style fencing for a lot of our fields. So it’s still fully accessible because the high fence is only directly behind the end of fields. It’s less expensive to maintain than hedges, and cuts the city rec departments liability insurance costs by more than enough to offset the cost of maintaining anyway.
@spamfilter32
@spamfilter32 Месяц назад
@skyechimes658 the field near my home has no fence at all. But there is greenspace between the field and the road. Maybe 15-20 feet. So maybe that is considered enough buffer to keep kids from running out onto the street without being seen? I don't know, but there is another park I drive past occasionally that has 4 soccer fields and also no fence at all.

Perhaps Lewis Hills for the new town? A reference to the first development project that the Lewis family ever took on and a bit of suited to the hilly forests that they're developing now instead of tropical river fronts.

I LOVE seeing clear cut blasts, that's why I wish you'd used them more, but I grew up in Illinois, and yeah, it's more realistic for a Wisconsin-ish state to push dirt around. It's flat where we are/were, and blasting is for bedrock and mountains. Hell, that's why we have basements in the north, but we don't get them in Texas. It's all dirt up there. That's why driving through Tennessee highways is so nuts, the amount of sheer rock walls is insane!

I'd say irl the fence around that football field would be a requirement, espacially at least behind the goal by the main-ish road, even fence taller than usual, or a net on top of standard fence, to stop balls from flying onto that road.

Gorgeous build. One small and unreasonable ask of the fame devs would be if some parks, e.g., soccer pitches, could be terrain conforming. Being from a hilly rural area, I’m used to parks conforming to the land. My childhood soccer games were played on pitches on a literal hillside - the teams would switch sides regularly in every match so everyone got a turn at the downhill slope advantage 🙂 would be a fun little thing to have for realism’s sake.
@LorenzoBueno

Hey Phil, as a brazilian, I must say that soccer fields have very specific grass which is really hard to take care of. I would suggest not stretching the same grass to the area around it. Also, if there was some fencing behind the goalkeepers, it would be more realistic as it avoids losing the ball and have someone run towards traffic to get back. The benches to watch are very realistic as well if you wanna keep it :D

Big big fan of the new city tour. Not just because of the "more intimate" approach, but also the lack of cuts. It was smoother and let us appreciate the space you created much more. That said, I do like how the older city tours contrast the nature of the change. So maybe there's a way to bring in both? The zoomed in views without jarring cuts, but still some overlays and cross fades to show old into new? Also, strong agree on keeping the surface for the tree farm.

For the rail line, don't double track it. It's not very realistic. Instead, build a yard with 3 through tracks + main line on the other side of the river after the bridge. Use single track for each and then set waypoints for each line to use a dedicated siding. This way trains pull into that yard and wait for their turn whilst keeping the mainline free. This would mimic the real life behaviour where train would pull into a yard, disconnect engines, run around and hook them back up at rear end and then push the waggons to the loading tracks.

Recognizing your history with wildfire and ever present concern with Myrtle, why not adopt more of a FireSmart program approach and landscape with buffer zones between fuel sources and structure? that soccer / football pitch is a decent addition but has a major flaw: either its manicured and has lines with nice goals and nets, but then it would 100% have atleast some small stands with extra space for locker rooms (altough they might be below the stands) and a shed for storing the gardening and maintenance equipment + the pitch would likely be fenced in with taller fences behind the goals to catch stray shots - in other words, the pitch would be owned/used by a local football club instead of being publicly access for recreational playing. alternatively, if the pitch stays unfenced without any extra buildings like it is now it would certainly not have chalk lines drawn, certainly no as manicured grass on and around the pitch and the goals likely wouldnt have nets either but be either metals "nets" or just plain goalposts and the pitch acts more like a park where neighbourhood kids meet to play football (in germany it would be called "bolzplatz").

Leave the surface. Forestry is (of course) much more complex than what this game can simulate. Foresters take care of the land that trees grow on. You wouldn't want civilians wandering in there

Hear me out, Phil. Remove the forestry floor for SOME of them, but not all of them. Consider if some trees maybe have more leaf litter attributed to them, apply that logic to how the floor looks. Maybe play with different floor colours to sell that idea. If they're cutting down a lot of trees, I'd expect the floor to eventually stain somewhat with leaf litter.

Maybe the new township can be called Sprayers, because you love to spray trees 🌳

I would keep the forestry color on the grass. although it doesnt match with its surroundings it looks like it could be some sort of fertilizer for the trees and at the very least it gives a contrast to the surrounding areas

I love the look, but it feels like there's so little storage for all that lumber. Maybe one or 2 warehouses make the freight station look better as well
