So beautiful! As soon as I saw the finished piece I was jealous and realized I could have made a version for myself years ago if I had only had the creativity and vision you had. That's my awkward way of saying how much I admire you for doing this, and inspire me to try to make a simplified version for myself. I can't make mail, but I can at least link chains together with jump rings. It won't be as good, but I'm dying to have a necklace this style for myself!

Does a chainmail... tunic, for example, provide any warmth? It doesnt seem very insulating but I imagine after it warms up it could provide some warmth.
What are the pliers you use? I use regular jewellery pliers, but I tend to end up scratching the rings (especially if I'm using anodised or plated), even with flat pliers!
that's where i get my rings as well! however, i have ordered from "weave got maille" a few times when desperate and the quality has been the same (though, unfortunately, more expensive) ✨
@@ladyevilmetals ok cool! I've discovered that buying rings from Walmart or and mainstream craft store is not worth the money. The rings are poured, not cut, and they are not the size they are supposed to be.
I want to know did you precut those or did you order them that way because if you ordered them that way where can I find it already precut😅 im just now starting out making my first chainmail armor set and id like help
Warning: I am a nerd about this sort of stuff! This is gorgeous, but fascinatingly an asian style of chainmail European chainmail's links were actually held closed by excruciatingly tiny rivets, so they wouldn't open up when stabbed. This is not easy for even above average hobbyists, due to the fact that they'd need a forge- flattening the ends of the rings, making tiny holes through each end, and then making the tiny rivets and closing the rings? That is a really high barrier of skills AND supplies. Asian, most notably Mongolian, chainmail was butted, like hobbyists do in the modern day. Now, I haven’t looked into it too much yet, but this may be because of the Mongolian's nomadic lifestyle. With honestly not that much more practice than the hobbyist level, you can make butted chainmail items on horseback. Additionally, the few examples of Mongolian chainmail I've seen seem to be backed with leather, making a leather/chainmail hybrid armor. Hardened leather armor is pretty darn good at not letting stabs though, so you'd get some pretty damn good armor that is suprisingly easy to make and maintain. I wish I had the money to go to school to get a doctorate....
