Making the PERFECT Tomorrowland

I feel like a WALL-E dark ride would work well in a “solarpunk” tomorrowland. Even more of a reason to preserve our planet instead of letting it go to waste.

This has all been said before but i don’t understand how LITERAL DISNEY doesn’t get that the only two ways to make tomorrowland definitively futuristic forever would be either to reference past ideas of the future like 80s retro-future, or steampunk, or *ahem jules verne,* OR you could look at the few aesthetic things and ideas that have always been futuristic like architectural minimalism and unnatural cleanliness, edit: and eco-sustainability

I love the solar punk vibe and the plants, everything about this was so perfect- Disney needs to hire you as an imagineer and they need to do what you say! They seem to have lost the original vision of the future in Tomorrowland

Have the Peoplemover track run into a tunnel alongside TRON, recreating the old World of TRON tunnel. Bring the Lightcycle track out of the main building, and run its length farther into Tomorrowland, extending the ride time and utilizing empty space. House the extended track into tunnels with a 2-way mirror effect that would allow the public to see the cycles zipping by, but ensures the riders stay immersed in the experience without looking at the park. This could be enhanced with projections, lighting, and fans like Space Mountain that keeps the illusion of speed in certain areas. The main building would be smaller and free up space for another ride. Just saying.

Love all these ideas, especially the sleek, solar punk concept combined with the kinetic design of the Tron ride and EPCOT’s Living with the Land aesthetic. Adding real world inspiration from things like Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay would make it memorable and appealing, with curved accessible walkways and many points of interest at different eye levels.

I would turn Starcade (both levels) and the Magic Eye Theatre space into an actual "House Of The Future" (looking like a house, not what Innoventions was) modeled after WandaVision and Westview. Part interactive mystery/adventure, part genuine showcase of things to come.

Solarpunk Tomorrowland is a galaxy-brain level idea!

Ninety percent in agreement with the improvements. Need some version of Autopia though, because, even if it's not "futuristic ", it's the Future for the children who drive it. My kids (and now grandchildren) loved it. Maybe a combination with the Autopia vehicles going through Tron like the buckets used to go through the Matterhorn?

What if instead of boats, we ran the Tron cycle over the water. That would be AMAZING at night and it would save space allowing for other rides.

If you want to keep cars, changing them to hydrogen fuel cells would be appropriate for the near future. You can make them guided drive as well, to prevent the usual banging around when you have a child driving. The FCVs would fit in CA, since they’re available primarily in CA in the US & not a lot of people have been exposed to them. I know it would improve my odds of traveling to visit Disneyland.

I think the Tron ride should open at Disneyland, and they should make the split in the center utilize it. Essentially, yes, recreating the "vibe" that rocket rods was supposed to. Something excited that you see as you enter. The Tron coaster could briefly run through where People Mover's Tron section existed in the park years ago.

BRILLIANT! I think the People Mover would be great as a “grand circle tour” of the land highlighting attractions. A dark ride water ride is a great idea, I mean, look how well Pirates and Small World work! 😎

The “Solarpunk” aesthetic definitely reminds me of futuristic 70s sci-fi films, namely “Silent Running.” I think it’s the only way to go with Tomorrowland and I’m surprised they haven’t done some sort of retrofuturistic remodel by now.

Disney should consider the motor bike coaster that is on the Mardi Gras Carnival Cruise Ship to replace the People Mover or Autopia in Tomorrowland. Disnay can lay these tracks all throughout Tomorrowland. This new attraction along with that newer exterior for Space Mountain and completing it all with the Tron Coaster. The original Disneyland will have a top notch Tomorrowland.

Good idea for space station X2, but I would call it Space Station X1. You could have Space Mt. , Rocket to the Moon, Mission to Mars fly bye while you eat. If you want take out the lagoon you have to rip out Autoputa as the cars are driving on the roof of the sub dark ride building.

Turn Start Trader into Tomorrowland Trade Port. Sell cool little gadgets and toys, "imports" from other lands, and its own merch, and turn the Star-Cade into something more virtual reality or a playspace with overhead projectors that are interactive so parents can go tucker out their little ones.

Excellent! Exactly what I've been thinking for years. We need this! We demand this! Keep Space Mountain, keep Monorail. Bring back the People Movers, that will settle everyone down, (I'm a huge fan too). Bulldoze the rest. I also like the white and green Solar Punk idea too. I think it looks great. I also like that you're channeling Walt. Trons a must, don't know much about Big Hero 6, but the ride sounds good. I like the restaurant idea too. We're going to catch Flac over Autopia but I agree we need the space. Now we just have to sell it to Disney.

Love absolutely all of this, and it honestly makes me want to get into concept art purely to whip all these ideas up, LOL. As much as I love the idea for a fun Tomorrowland Lagoon, I still 100% stand by that the space from both that and Autopia should be sacrificed to FanLand for an expansion, a la MK (or rather, whatever France and Tokyo have going on). If anything, it could play into the whole idea of TL anyway: living together and with the land instead of spreading out and destroying it. Win-win!

Listen I feel you on the pastel cars for the people mover however, I think a white car with like a streamlined colored led lighting look would be cool on your hypothetical people mover

Suggestion for the Starcade: remember that weird old one-off arcade at the exit of Pirates with games designed and built by imagineers? That. Do that. But with today's tech. Some screen-based games, but also some practical stuff and, of course, some VR. Make it a showcase for imagineers' game/ride/show prototypes, constantly evolving, with installations swapped out every 6 to 24 months. Popular attractions could become full-scale productions elsewhere in the land (maybe that extra Autopia space). That would make the Starcade potentially the most futuristic (and future-proof) attraction in the land. Just a thought.

To make better use of space TL needs to be multiple levels. Like having the avatar simulator ride downstairs and that space restaurant on its roof. I’d keep Star Tours before SM.

My thoughts on Star-Trade is that we would have to make it Toy Story themed since Astro Blasters is gone and by that point we’d only have Woody style attractions, I’d say just move the Star Command store to that spot but change the color scheme so it fits in with the rest of Tomorrowland. (This also gives the Big Hero Six ride a little more room.) My idea for Star-Cade is based on how they did an exhibition for Brad Bird’s tomorrow land, probably something that documents the history of Tomorrowland over the years, so at the very least it shows how far we’ve come from the original 1979 version. For the rest of Autopia, I’d put a Wall-E ride since the movie’s themes fit so well with the aesthetic of this Tomorrowland. I don’t know if it would be a coaster or a dark ride or a simple walk through but what I do know is that Wall-E NEEDS to be here. I noticed the Tomorrowland Theater wasn’t mentioned so I’m gonna throw a more “out there” idea for it: each day it plays a different Disney and Pixar sci-fi movie including “Captain EO” and “Honey I Shrunk the Audience”. I imagine it serves a similar purpose to the PeopleMover, I.E. an attraction for people to go on if it’s too crowded. My final idea is a thing involving Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland movie (Since the Tomorrowland in the movie is also kind of solar punk) that’s kind of like the Phineas and Ferb/Kim Possible spy hunt thing where putting a Tomorrowland pin/Magic Band in a specially marked spot would cause something to happen. This includes opening a door that houses a Tomorrowland version of the society of adventurers (Probably called “The Sculptors of the Future” or something). The room would probably be a treat to fans as well as a place just to chill out in.

All great ideas. I will say I love how Disney Land intertwines the monorail, people mover and autotopia tracks. You had a great shot at the end of this piece that showcased it. I do think the speedways in both DW and DL need to go. I wish they would give both tomorrow lands a more timeless feel.

I'm with You I'm tired of Disney short changing due to budget. Give me a break Disney, you have the friggin money. But I too have redesigned parks and rides. It's fun yet frustrating when you realize someone else has your dream job and they ain't that good at it

Best Tomorrowland concept i can think of could be terraforming and colonizing another planet, but then might as well convet all of Epcot into that.

Great video and great ideas. Tomorrowland needs to ditch the attractions you mentioned and needs a Tron coaster. They could make it work, even as an elongated version that skirts the outer edge of the property making a sort of futuristic backdrop a la Cars land mountains. I had the idea of converting the Carousel of Progress building (my era) into a Space 220 restaurant, but whatever works. Great plan and I hope Disney is listening. Aside from Space Mountain, TL is my least favorite land. It needs a complete overhaul to keep Guests coming and happy. Thanks!

What a lot of detail you put into this idea. Tomorrowland has been a land of mixed feelings since it became neglected over the last 20 years. Do you have a recommendation for more Fan Based resort concepts?

An idea: run the whole land’s electricity by harvesting piezo-electric energy. Think about it: how many tens of thousands of steps are taken every minute the park is open? If placing piezo-electric pedals every five or ten feet across the pathways is too much, then maybe concentrate them around the entrances to attractions. Set up a dance floor and let that be a pedal-rich environment, and tell people they’re helping to run the land by dancing! Or dedicate a terrace to a floor that makes music and lights up at every step. Fun with physics!

You should do this to a villains themed land.

For Starcade I have an amazing idea. It would be Cheap, and it wouldn't take up that much space. Create a VR version of the old Horizions ride. By making it VR and having the ride vehicle basically be like one of those VR seats you can find in the mall, you can continue to update the ride as time goes by and with minimal cost.

Don’t take away my Star Tours. Even though it’s Star Wars, taking tours through space is literally on the horizon and fits in the idea of tomorrow. Also, Smugglers Run is NOT a superior version. One is a thrilling motion simulator ride; the other is a glorified video game that requires interaction from all party members, whether they want to play or not. I want to sit and enjoy a ride. I want to enjoy rides with my 5-year-old. I want to ride with my 60-year-old parents. I can’t do any of that enjoyably in Smugglers Run.

I think the only issue with calling a restaurant X2 is that Six Flags Magic Mountain has a 4D coaster called X2 already, it might confuse guests who go to both parks

how about a hydroponics themed attraction for the lagoon aquatopia themed attraction, going into dark rooms and caves to explore otherworldly plants growing in water, maybe some alien marine life that cohabit with the plants, like living with the land but in the future and more fictional

Love this! Next can we please have a chat about a way to plus / rehab / bring into the 21st century the Haunted Mansion? Yes, of course, much of it should be left as it was created but there are opportunities just BEGGING for subtle projection mapping. Additionally, the stretching room needs some help. It looks like...well...it looks like it's been stretched one too many times. It needs modernization. It would 'look' the same, but rework the mechanics and effects completely. Those paints couldn't subtly move, like Harry Potter portraits, if they were projection mapped and the sagging...I mean stretching...walls could be enhanced.

For your Hero ride, not use the Mack Rides suspended family coaster - like Arthur the ride at Europa Park.

I was there (Dland) around 2000 2003and loved the Jules Verne copper overhaul look of tomorrow land them they changed it back to white yuck.

Had a thought on combining some ideas, and taking advantage of a little Hollywood magic close by... The Future = Conservation + Space theme I'm absolutely down with, and with James Cameron's Pandora working out so well in Animal Kingdom, how about tapping Christopher Nolan for Interstellar: The Ride. It could work similar to Journey to the Center of the Earth in that it starts off as a slower dark ride, taking you thru Earth's problem of blight - a dystopic Living With the Land section, if you will. Eventually you blast off into space, travel thru a wormhole, visit a tsunami planet and get sucked into a black hole. Too complicated, dystopic for Disneyland? You're wrong, it's not; Mr. Toad still goes to Hell, after all. There's a lot to pack in there, but when I think of combining the current/future problems of Earth we face with a futuristic vision using both real science and a bit of science fiction (not to mention, a spectacular musical score), Interstellar is to me, spot on.

Tron is already too short. Might make more sense to build it taller and more compact. Compacting could add near-miss elements that make it a bit more thrilling, too.

I think the autopia area should be absorbed by fantasy land for a Beauty and the beast ride like the one over seas

Sadly due to all the new safety requirements and regulations the people can't ever come back. The old track is close to collapsing and there are so many new systems the ride vehicles would have to have. I don't see it being possible. I love the idea for aquatopia though. I had a very similar idea as well.

No new Skyway? It was the classic flight experience as Tony Baxter put it (in so many words).

before I watch here are my predictions: -Peoplemover -get rid of star wars stuff -keep autopia (for some reason) -introduce something that highlights new technologies and changed out EDIT: I was petty close haha. Except for Aqua-topia

the thing about Tomorrowland in Shanghai is that it looks good right now because it just opened a few years ago. give it a decade or two. it will look old.

What's telling is that the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland and Epcot to a certain extent are steadily being returned to how they were in the 70s and 80s respectively. What does that say? It's not forms and exterior building facades that date themselves, it's the technology within. I don't think Disneyland's Tomorrowland needs to be torn done and let's face it, Disney isn't going to spend the money for a complete gut. They need to fix the People Mover track -- it can't be that unfixable, get rid of the I steam punk spinning rockets, create the dark rides you suggested along with your water ride idea and whatever they can do with that gassy, smelly car track ride. It's not that hard but Disney, as usual, is making it hard.

First... Such a creative video! Second, for the car ride, gift shop, and arcade - why not blend it all. Virtual reality ride, crafting a toy or gizmo along the way, that gets 3d printed for you as you make it through the gift shop at the end.

I am honestly glad that more generic looking glass structure at 12:54 never came to be. However, I am worried once they do tear down the carousel building (there is apparent water damage), they will replace it with some other generic looking structure. Having a Tommorowland that follows Walt's vision to a complete-T and not become outdated in 20 years or less is much more difficult to do these days. Future versions of Disneyland Tomorrowland will likely be more so based on "the future that COULD be" rather it being straight up science non-fiction. The submarine ride is the last of its kind and is only protected from OSHA due to grandfather clause. Believe it or not, but there is still a future for underwater exploration; considering there's still so much we don't know about our own oceans. I would install new ride vehicles with faster loading times and ditch the Nemo theme. I wish the ride would go completely movie free, but if they had to go with a new movie theme, then either an updated story of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea or a live action remake of Atlantis: The Lost Empire (a rare case of a potentially justified Disney live action remake; especially considering the ride theme was once intended to be based on Atlantis). Replacing this attraction with Aquatopia would be so ironic (and a downgrade), considering what the subs replaced in the first place. With Autopia, I would just slice off the northern portion of the track work (for a future Fantasyland expansion) and make the cars be fuel cell based. Believe it or not, we can't solely rely on battery power for all of our vehicle needs. Space Mountain needs an improved entrance que, new projectors, and to replace those cardboard cutouts with fancier effects. Tron coaster is still impractical for that landlocked park at this point. Besides, it's preferable to have a more unique Tron attraction for Disneyland. Astro Orbitor could be placed in the area where the Magic Eye Theater currently is; gut the theater and reinforce the area so the structure can now handle the weight of the ride (currently, the roof at the Magic Eye Theater can literally only handle one or two people). Or tear down the old PM platform and create a new platform designed specifically for the Astro Orbitor. Speaking of the PM... People Mover old tracks are torn down due to the combination of OSHA regulations and the old tracks being beyond repair. New tracks installed that take a different route. I would have a modernized version of Adventure Thru Inner Space where Star Tours currently is and housed inside a new building. Where as I would modify your Light Speed ride to instead be a spiritual successor Mission to Mars that does more than what was possible back then (just simply having people sink into their seats is no longer enough). I am surprised there was no mention of a SpaceX exhibition, considering there was once a NASA exhibition. I would try to relocate the Buzz Lightyear attraction to DCA. In regards what to do with the former Starcade location, it would only be able to use the first floor. A few ideas include a 3D printer workshop, location for a new restaurant, and a retro-future throwback spot. One last thing and while not relating to Tomorrowland all that much these days, it was once listed as a Tomorrowland attraction...Matterhorn. They will likely have to reconstruct that attraction from scratch by the 2030s. Send the current ride vehicles to the scrap yard once they start to reconstruct the entire thing and the new ones would only need a singular rail system and maybe be able to have a rocking motion. Knowing Disney, they will use this as an excuse to make it Frozen themed, but I wish they weren't so afraid these days to have new attractions that don't have a movie attached to it.

I like all of your ideas, but I think that your rides are all geared towards a teen or older crowd. Autopia is a ride for younger kids. Remember how much fun it was getting to drive your own car at Disney before you turned 16? Although I don't ever ride this anymore, keeping attractions like this for this age group seems like a good idea.

The next video you will say that you regret you didn't mentioned WALL-E at all. Take the Aesthetic of the second half of the movie and add plants, probably taking part after the movie's ending

I am so for all of this. Solar pink would be a great esthetic. Loved big hero 6 and I thought that tomorrow land needs a tron ride. I don’t mind losing star tours, but I would want millennium falcon to take on the multiple possible missions.

I agree on all points. I must say, though... I am not a fan of the trackless rides.

I somewhat disagree, I like how each tommorland differs: Disneyland: retro future, DisneyWorld: 80s sci fi, Shanghai: Chinese modern future and my personal favourite DisneyLand Paris: European steampunk, I think if any needs to be revamped it would be magic kingdom as Disneyland is all about nostalgia and tron does not look good in the retro look of Tomorrowland. That being said, Disney world has epic which admittedly have been moving away from the theme of the future to the theme of the world but yeh, it’s a tough one

I like MOST of it, but another boat-ride-in-a-lagoon attraction? Really? How many of those have already failed at DLR? The Submarine Voyage is awesome and even if you don't like them they look cool when walking by.

I love the idea of solar punk, and I think it would be a great way to introduce sustainability and eco friendliness to the parks. I doubt Disney would include things like homes for native bees, but maybe hydroponics in the food areas, more native plants in the planters, and education about those things. The hydroponics idea might become outdated as people try new farming methods out, but it could still be themed nicely and updating should be fairly cheap

One thing, if the theme is future and greenery, where’s Wall-E? A film that fits both of the themes? Anything from a dark ride or simulator or peoplemover could fit

It's ironic that retro-future Tomorrowland is really the only version that would be relevant for any extended period of time. The only way to "future-proof" it is to go backwards. YesterTomorrowland.

I think an interesting happy medium between OG Tomorrowland and your Solar Punk vision would be the future depicted in Meet the Robinsons! Granted, it takes place in 2037, which would make it outdated fairly soon, but it's bright and bubbly and grassy and already pretty heavily based on Tomorrowland (it's called Todayland, for pete's sake, haha) so you wouldn't have to change many rides to fit the theme.

Instead of a Big Hero Six ride, I would really love a Wall-E dark ride where you get a tour around the Axiom and (potentially) get chased down by Auto as you try to get to one of the escape pods. Doesn't that sound cool? Sounds amazing to me.

Honestly they should go full 50s retro futuristic for the land, take a page from Ray Bradbury's book, make the advancements actually futuristic but make the aesthetic more in tune with the original, keep the retro rockets but make them go to the next biggest terrestrial body, rip out the forced IP's and make them futuristic, maybe make the submarine ride one about exploring the potential of undersea living and research.

To build on your Solarpunk ideas, I think most of the stuff in the land should be either electric or solar powered, and most of the food should be plant-based to really drive in the message of sustainability being the future. Also you could replace the merch store with a store that sells plant terrariums that have models of different rides and lands (and they could charge extra for families to plant their own seeds in the land with a label, so then kids could learn about the importance of the environment, and people could have their own spot of Tomorrowland, because “everyone has a part in creating a better tomorrow TM”) And instead of the Buzz/ Big Hero 6 ride, I think an original dark ride about Skippy from Alien Encounter escaping like an alien zoo into Tomorrowland (where its green and open and alien friendly!) could tie better into the land (and Skippy would sell a lot more plushies and merch).

Cant stop thinking about how San Fransokyo would’ve been such a good addition to California Adventure, ya know, assuming anybody actually wanted a California themed theme park
