Making the raised bed SMALLER! Yes smaller.

We’ve been planning a redesign in the garden since last summer, specifically to give us more room in our chillooterie seating area. To do it, we’ll have to redesign our raised beds and more.
But it’s giving us the chance to build an arbour over the bed to offer support to tall or climbing plants.
If only the Scottish weather would play ball.

How would YOU make the chillooterie perfect if it was yours? A fire pit? A swing seat? A butler maybe?

Those clothesline posts at the ends are what I was thinking of on a larger scale with cables running across. Then I could attach shade cloth with rings to slide them when I need them. It’s such a deal to put large squares of shade cloth up and keep it stable in the wind. It’s my dream project as it will be costly. We do use a party tent structure, but instead of tarp we use black 40% shade cloth doubled up, so 80%. It fits perfectly on the deck. To make it easier we attached a long PVC 2” pipe to one end and thinking it would be beneficial to put on both ends to just flip it over and less tie downs. Great job!

Hi Eli & Kate. I have been wondering if your greenhouse is okay. The wind in my neck of woods is fierce. My plastic greenhouse had blown to the other end of the garden, including shelves, plastic poles snapped, and all seedlings tipped out of pots etc. Utter devastation!

Can't wait to see the new design you've decided on. I've got some concrete garden beds in my garden and have been thinking about making some row covers similar to yours with the plastic to grow during the winter months, but haven't gotten to it yet. Instead, I've been incorporating cold weather crops that can stand the mild winters we have here in the south U.S. Things like Carrots, Turnips, Beets, and Mustard Greens. Looking forward to next spring already and I'm going to attempt to do what you posted a video about last spring. I'm going to pick out one specific plant and pay attention to it's growth patterns and watch it particularly grow threw it's lifespan. Keep up the great video's and will continue watching. Have a blessed day.

Totally irrelevant, but I was thinking... you remind me of my second grade teacher Mrs Aitkenhead... a wee Scottish lass.... she wasn't bad but you are far more enjoyable to learn from :) My latest garden adjustment was around the side of the house (street facing and oft forgotten)... I had to buy some extra soil/potting mix to top it up... but using pruned branches I made my little wall around it and it should be a nice little flower bed. Love watching your projects and how it all comes together. Hope you both have a lovely festive season. (P.S. is it obvious I've been watching for quite some time when I had a little chuckle when you said "if it rains" ;) )

I remember making my beds from sleepers with these coach screws, using only impact drill without pre-drilling first, it overheated after first bed, lol. Speaking of, definitely impact drill makes it easier compared to regular electric drill.

@CMDRSloma
@CMDRSloma 9 месяцев назад
@@eliandkate These coach screws are nearly 20cm long! And they were going in nicely, but it was three beds, 8 screws each into dense treated timber. I also used black plastic pond liner for sides to avoid any potential chemicals seeping into soil. Anyway... My sleepers are 2.4m x 10cm x 20 cm, no bevel on sides, which I actually quite like seeing on yours. I stacked mine same as you, 2 levels high, but I did stager them in each corner, imagine two Tetris's L bricks up and down, while your shorter sides are in-between longer ones. All by myself.
