Cool build! The pole through the edge is a very clever addition.

Amazing build! There's clearly a lot of planning involved in this, I REALLY like the addition of the rod-and-tube system to make the levels rotate. I would have gone for magnets, but this could even be used narratively, that the wizard that lives in it knows of the party an their intentions and warps the very fabric of the tower to create obstacles or something. Very cool idea!

Yes! I love the paler limestone-like color of your stonework. I have not been happy with my standard sort of dark gray look. Thanks!

I recently started using a rock for stone texturing, not so much because of uniformity (I can just turn the foil around or roll in different directions), but because I got tired of having to roll up balls of foil. Rocks do make a better (more realistic) looking texture and it's like a permanent ball of foil. Nice build.

that is super cool!! I'd personally add magnets to the opposite end of the tower levels from the pivoting rod to have each level stay put until it's time to reveal the next level up. i might have to try making this! Thanks for sharing!

Great use of the circle cutter for recreating the same radii. I understand the upside windows were your own design choice, but I felt they protruded a little too much. The door arch didn't look as deep. Also a brilliant use of the aluminium rod. Perhaps having inset magnets could help to keep them aligned when in the "closed" position. Sweet build.

Cool build. One tip: try to get a whet-stone. It will save you a lot of knife blades ;-) I now only sporadically need to cut the blade. Just sharpen the blade every so often :-)

It could have been very cool to have one more level carved into the foam of the base, maybe just barely sticking out and requiring a few steps up so that the ground wouldn't interfere with the rotation.

This is the one that I used. I didnt get anything fancy just the cheapest one possible. Making your own circle cutting jig would be super easy! www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hot-Wire-Foam-Sponge-Cutting-Machine-Cutter-Styrofoam-Thermoplastic-220V-O/223201614660?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

How about tiny magnets instead of a pole it will give a bit more stability and easy maintenance
@ConquestCreations
@ConquestCreations 3 года назад
Great question! Magnets would be perfect for just holding it together but they wouldn't be strong enough for it to swivel because there is a lot of leverage on them

@ConquestCreations

I mixed the grey from white and black and just grabbed a random blue and brown. The specific colours aren't important you can easily make good looking stone work with any colours!

Could you tell me how thick the foam is that you used? Having a very hard time finding XPS foam that’s thicker than 2” at least in the U.S. You said you did 10 and glued two together so you had 5 floors. Wondering how tall each of the floors are when you glue them together. Thanks!

Do you have a special attachment to your wire cutter that lets you make the circle cuts? Thinking of getting one, and that seems really useful.
@ConquestCreations
@ConquestCreations 3 года назад
Its a circle cutting jig. This project would have been impossible without it! It came with my wire cuter but I am not sure that all wire cutters come with accessories

Small tip from the cosplay community. Rather than snapping off the blade for a fresh and sharp blade. Get a basic kitchen knife sharpener and sharpen it. Your blades will last several times longer.
@ConquestCreations
@ConquestCreations 3 года назад
Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely give it a shot
@RainMakeR_Workshop
@RainMakeR_Workshop 3 года назад
@@ConquestCreations So have you tried it yet?
@ConquestCreations
@ConquestCreations 3 года назад
@@RainMakeR_Workshop I gave it a shot. It helps blades stay sharp a lot longer. It isn't a perfect solution because a lot of the time I am working with just the tip of the blade and that isn't restored as well by sharpening but it helps a lot!
@RainMakeR_Workshop
@RainMakeR_Workshop 3 года назад
@@ConquestCreations That's more of an experience thing. The more you do it, the better results you get. Plus you need to make sure that you angle the sharpener and the blade properly and consistently as you sharpen it, otherwise you can just as easily blunten rather than sharpen it.
@ConquestCreations
@ConquestCreations 3 года назад
@@RainMakeR_Workshop Thats actually super helpful to know. I have writted it off to early. I'll try a but more on my next project. Thanks mate

How durable us this material after it's painted and everything?
@ConquestCreations

Its not amazingly durable but decent. The paint helps solidify the surface and its super light so generally when it gets knocked around it doesnt take damage

I live in Australia where this was available from Bunnings. From my understanding most Hardware stores around the world should stock a similar product. Have a look in the insulations section!

One thing I always suggest to everyone is to not do full walls all the way around. This makes it very difficult for the players to see inside, and if anyone in your group is wheelchair bound, it basically means they can't see unless someone is able to hand it to them. Half walls around or one or two sides that come all the way up is the way to go.
