I was actually looking at the map design of yoshi's island today! All the suggestions you gave me in the other comments as well were super helpful!! Thank you so much!
Regular dots (yellow) - normal above ground level Dots with blue around them (yellow) - normal water level Dots with rubble around them (yellow) - normal underground level Ones with red dots have a secret exit in them
@@Kerobyxclay , so, I guess that it is a dessert desert then, right? Anyway, did you know that there is a real life mountain range that is called the Chocolate Mountains? The Chocolate Mountains are in the southern part of the State of California, USA and, to make things even more coincidental, as well as possibly creepy, it too is near a desert. Here is a link for proof of my claim. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chocolate_Mountains
@@Kerobyxclay well I suggest you go to super Nintendo world at universal studios it’s not a complete replica but it’s the closest you’re going to get to going to the world map of super Mario world
This was outstanding. I've been a huge Super Mario World fan since it came out. I'd love to see you tackle maps from Mario Land from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, Kitchen Island from Wario Land, or even New Super Mario Bros. U (which took inspiration from this map). Keep up the great work!
@@Kerobyxclay If you want moveable parts, Definitely look at Super Mario Land 2 (6 golden coins) Look for the "Mario Zone", It's a big Mario Statue and could be a build on it's own. You possible could create each zone individually and combine them at the end? (Mario Land 2: 6 golden YT Videos lol) Would be pretty darn sick! :D
10:47 In a cutscene when you beat that castle there will Mario, as usual, activate a trigger, which launches the castle to the hill in the background, making this thing appear on it... So your reference image probs showed the map after this part (I assume fully completed?)
That bowser cave came together so nicely... I was honestly in awe watching you somehow add more and more detail to it. You really have some incredible talent!
me: **sees the full thing at the beginning** its alright also me: **sees the full thing again at the end** *OMG THATS LOOKS FREAKING AMAZING I COULD NEVER DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT HOLY SH-*
This is incredible, definitely the coolest SMW thing I've seen in a long time! Great job :) Also, the blue levels are water levels, and the rubble piles are underground levels. And the band-aid hill gets "hurt" after the castle next to it blows up after beating it!
One of my favorite things about this video is hearing your speculation as to what is going on in certain areas of the map that you haven't been to yet. :)
You describing the game as you make the clay map cracked me up for some reason. Pro tip if you fly to the top in the first got house you can unlock the secret level behind it that you can power up in and helps a lot
All ive got to say is WOW!! How in the he'll have you never played this game until making a model of it!?!? Its one of the greatest games in existence! So good in fact, that ive never heard of anyone who hasnt played it until now. Aside from that...this is VERY impressive. GREAT JOB!!
Watching someone who barely played a game that i play regularly since almost 20 years now while they make a clay version of the overworld... Was amazing. I loved it. Its amazing.
Wouldn´t it have been nice if it had been made clearer that it is made of chocolate? For example with Yoshi being able to eat some bits here and there like he does with the red fruit on the bushes (are those tomatoes? I have always wondered, lol). I beat the game too, I always thought there had to be 100 stages and I was unable to find the last 4 ones, then, almost 20 years later, I learned there only are the 96 that I found (if I remember the number correctly).
@@Lizuma That is so funny, well, to us they were tomatoes. But we didn´t bother much with the explanations anyway since most of them were in English, and our English wasn´t good enough yet to get through it all. Berries, eh? Giant berries, actually they must have been the size of small pumpkins. And Yoshi swallowed them whole!
Major kudos for including details like the bandage on the World 4 hill even though you didn't know why it was there. There are good reasons for those things, so I really appreciate you assuming it's there for a reason. As for that specific one, in the cutscene after Mario finishes the World 4 castle, it blasts off like a rocket and hits that hill, lol.
10:43 spoiler alert: read at your risk (I’d recommend you to get to castle 4 to read this) Mario blows up the castle and it flew of and hit the bush, that’s how it got the bandaid
As someone who's played the game to completion multiple times, and knows this game inside and out, the sculpture is beyond awesome, but the commentary is painful
@@Kerobyxclay I really enjoyed watching this video and adore the attention to detail. If I may recommend you another game to play on your laptop, I recommend "Tomba!" for the PS1. Personally, I enjoyed "Tomba! 2" much more, but maybe, it is something you would enjoy playing. I recommend using "epsxe" or "Duckstation" in terms of Playstation 1 emulators. Just look it up, please. Maybe, you would get a kick out of this game. Or maybe, you would enjoy "Klonoa - Door to Phantomile" as well. Ahh sorry, I just reallyove retro games, that's all. 🤭 Edit: Seeing future clay creations from either of the games mentioned before would be greatly appreciated.
I would have loved to have seen your face when you found out that island was made of chocolate and isn't a desert at all... though I suppose it is a dessert!
Truly phenomenal work! I really like that you re-purposed the leftover clay creations that you didn't end up using in your projects - talk about resourceful! And I like that you mentioned an often-overlooked aspect of any creation - the thought process! It's not necessarily something that can be overtly observed, but an important step nonetheless. The way the water in itself was created was awesome - not only did you add white to the clay for patterning, but you sliced and pieced together the watery clay for added randomness - it's extra steps like that which show the immense amount of care and detail that do into these designs of yours. And they're things that people might not be aware of otherwise, so I think it's great that you mention them - it definitely gives me an even greater appreciation for the time and effort that goes into these creations. Excellent editing and camera work here, as well - I'm sure it takes a great deal of careful planning and execution to have it all come together so smoothly, to coordinate it with the narration, and to adjust the speed of the footage, as well. Just really well done in all regards. Thanks for sharing! :D
That's cool. When the game came out, I drew a huge high res (at the time!) rendition of the map in DeluxePaint IIe, and then uploaded it to BBSs... because we didn't really have the web yet, and barely any Internet at all!
Kerobyx: "I haven't finished this game but I'm going to build a super authentic version of the overworld map." Like BRO. Thumbs WAY UP. This was awesome, for someone who grew up in "that era." Super Mario World was the first game I actually owned, and it stays with me even today.
Awesome! This has to be one of the coolest things i've seen made out of clay! If it's not too difficult (I wouldn't know i don't make anything out of clay) I think a level from Super Mario 64 would be really cool to see, that's my absolute favroite game ever made.
People are so creative. What a great, cute idea. There was a poster I was thinking of buying that depicted Super Mario World's overworld, but it's based on the real-world map. This video reminded me of that.
DUDE! This is just so awesome, I'm really blown away by this. I always wanted to see something like a physical miniature layout of the Super Mario World map as I've always loved the layout since I was a kid. And now here it is. Thank you for this. I already subbed and liked this video while halfway through watching👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 This is the first of your videos I've seen, so I don't know if you have made more Mario maps since this one. Just wish I'd come across this video at the time you uploaded it instead of 10 months later.
I'm glad you liked it! Thank you for subscribing! It's honestly the most interesting, and likeable map I've ever seen. They really did a great job designing it! As far as other maps go, I recently made Yoshi's Island, and I'll be making some other Mario maps soon!
Definitely adds more detail having the paths laid out. Also love how you have the castles and towers intact despite the paths laid out as they'd be destroyed by the time you reach the sunken ship after being defeated by Mario or Luigi. 8:09 I don't know if you got further in the game, but those levels with the rubble piles are underground levels. So I guess they're meant to be either cave entrances or holes in the ground or something like that. 10:42 I know what happened there, but not sure whether to say or not as I don't know how far you got since making this video.
I actually didn't think about that with the castles not being broken. I do know all about it now, I made the video quite a long time ago. So don't worry, you wouldn't spoil anything!
Duuuuude, this is amazing!!! It's super cool how you cut all the map parts so they're all to the same scale. Bowser's cave is definitely a focal point! Keep up the good work :)
The bowser cave instance looks terrifying, but still cool project 👍👍👍👍 Also the “POW blocks” are p switch palaces, and if a course is red means it has a secret exit while yellow ones are normal, And if it has blue around it it means it’s underwater (or has water in it) and the ones with dirt means it’s a cave level, also the “Castles” are actually fortresses (or mid-castles) and the “towers” are castles (but you can call ‘em towers too!), the hill with the bandage was hit, because Mario blew up the 4th castle into the sky and it ended up hitting the hill in the head I hope this helps you Also try making the star road, special world, the vanilla dome, and valley of bowser
Terrifying in a good way?? I've had a bunch of comments answering these questions, but it's still much appreciated! Thanks for the comment and checking out the video!
7:44 you actually explained the reason for those even existing. They wanted a mario 3 difficulty normally, but then decided to make things easier since its a new system, and new players might join since its not numbered, to make the switch blocks for extra platforms and powerups specifically for those players
The original manual had a clue "From Donut Plains onward, many course points are red. At these course points are hidden different goals and keyholes....". I never read the manual and instead spent hundreds of combined hours exploring every single level trying to find alternative paths, switch palaces, and star road access points. If I could go back and do it all over again...I would do it the exact same way. The game is a staple of my childhood and the fun times with my friends. Those memories make me smile.
I'm in a similar situation with Yoshi's Island: I'm finally able to play it after so long, but only because I got a controller to use with my SNES emulator, as I never got a SNES or SNES Classic and couldn't wait any longer. A wired Xbox controller works very well on PC and is cheaper than a wireless one. I can understand how difficult Super Mario World would be with only a keyboard (I actually played that one to the end already but with virtual console on my 3DS). Continue playing it if you havent beaten it, it's so good! And get it on virtual console or get a controller if you havent already!
Amazing work! You don't happen to have recorded your playthrough? I've been looking for a decent complete blindrun for ages, but those are rare generally, and even more so for classics like this that everybody seems to at least have some prior experience with.
This is absolutely amazing! This was the first video game I ever played, had it for my GBA, and put many many hours into it. The map is pretty much dead on. Nice work!
Awesome work, looks a lots of fun to make it. For a real good challenge and very exciting maps, you could make both maps of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, the light world and dark world, there's a lots areas, dessert, lake, mountains, a big castle in the light world and a pyramid on the dark world. I pretty sure that it could catch your attention.
Awesome! Great work. You put a lot of effort into this, and it shows. To the end of the video, I would have added a side-by-side comparison of the printed graphic and your clay model.
-blue level with yellow dot is a underwater level. - there are yellow, green, red, and blue switch blocks, but the red one is in world 3 so you don't see it on overworld. - The levels with rubble piles are underground or cave levels. - keep playing the game and beat castle 4, you'll love what happened to that bush :D
I really enjoy the attention to detail and overall accurateness(?) to the in-game version. Forest of Illusion's full map was a pretty great addition, too. To call this a great job would be an understatement.
Never played mario world? That's my favorite game. I know it forward and backward. It's definitely worth playing more of it 10:41 haha! You even included the best part of the game? Brilliant! Be sure to swing by castle 4 on your playthrough to understand this
OMG THIS IS AMAZING!!! You got a new sub ;) also a cool video would be a miniature lake lapcat like it appears in the Giga Cat fights just on a normal scale
