Making Tube Amplifiers from TVs

Cathode ray tube TVs or CRT TVs for short have picture tubes designed to accelerate electrons at a phosphor screen. Looking at the construction of them up close you begin to realize that they are not much different from say a diode tube or a triode if you have the right connections, this made me wonder, would it be possible to make an
amplifier out of these tubes? As far as I know, nobody online has tried doing this, so I decided to find out for myself how feasible this is in actuality.

You can also donate FOR FREE by installing Streamlabs OBS for FREE. I get $1 for every install through this link: streamlabs.com/slobs/d/833209
What "counts" as an install is of course installing and opening the app then streaming for the first time or closing the app. Every little bit helps, thank you!

The reason the 3 cathodes are separate in a colour crt is because each cathode corresponds to the colour video signal, so they are driven separately by the red green and blue video signals. If they were all connected together, you'd just get a black and white picture as all three cathodes would be firing the same amount of electrons to the red green and blue phosphorus.

Would it be possible to use the RGB as 3 mono channel mixer?

Before you start experimenting with CRT's it may be a good idea to include a word of advice. CRT's are high vacuum devices, which may implode and cause serious damage or injury to yourself and whoever is standing close to it. Heavy chunks of glass flying around at high speed is not a joke. Besides, some parts (capacitors) of CRT TV's may contain lethal high voltage long after they have been disconnected. Do not fool around with these things if you do not know what you are doing.

An output transformer that might work better for this circuit is a Stancor A-4744 (they're 20 bucks on VivaTubes dot com), which has a 4R:25k ratio. A Fender Reverb transformer might work as well, those have a ratio of 4R:22k5. You can increase the primary impedance by using a higher impedance speaker (a 16R speaker would get you 100k for the Stancor and 90k for the Fender).

How would you configuratie one tv tube just for a mono line level?

00:58 - The piece you are holding up isn't a cathode ray tube. It's an electron gun assembly.

Make circuit of oscilloscope that run on video input composite of TV with out open any tv or any other device. it make on working tv or video input based devices or monitor but not used A2D based circuit like Arduino or other digital circuit Useing analoge circuit this is awesome new idea to make every video based devices into oscilloscope. Can make tow different frequencies horizontal and vertical,and then distrube by injecting measuring signal work oscilloscope.

I had same idea many years ago, but I actually never worked with tubes and prefer to work with much lower voltages. Also, what about push-pull output, wouldn't that change anything?
@SciCynicalInventing
@SciCynicalInventing 5 лет назад
This was my first time working with tubes as well, and a push-pull output might work better, it never crossed my mind to try that configuration, thank you! In a push-pull configuration I would have to use a center tapped transformer and at least make sure both CRT tubes are as identical as possible but thats a great idea for another video!

You're welcome, it just crossed my mind when you said it can deliver quite high currents as diode and I immediately thought of transistor output stage. When I think of it, do you even need transformer? There are OTL amplifiers with just big capacitors to filter DC, I even noticed schematics where are tubes connected in parallel to increase power. I was working as electrician in factory for three years now and honestly, I never liked working with those "high" voltages, 24V DC is the most I'm comfortable with. I know myself and I don't trust myself enough about this :) Honestly I don't even know how I got to your channel, I was just searching for diy plotters and boom, I was here...and stayed because of quality content! And now I'm going to finally watch whole video, because I found it at about 2AM and just skipped to certain times to see result :D

Look at the glasslinger channel, he is able to make tubes. Like 1959Berre said before me, its insanely dangerous what you doing. Heating CRT or scratching it with screwdriver is definitely not what anybody should do. I would use those boards with connectors for soldering and not solder directly to pins. As you realized, using focusing electrodes of CRT as plate give you small plate current and high output impedance good only as preamp tube, but dimensions a ridiculous.
