I’ve ordered some ceracell beetle resistant plastic frames with wax coating. I’m assuming as you’ve pointed out I can expect good results with these up in the supers but not in the brood. As I’m buying 2 starter nucs for my 2 new hives, these come with wooden wire frames like you’ve made. Assume I should just buy a couple more of such frames to fill out the rest of the brood box initially? Also how long does a sticky that’s been extracted stay good for, in regards to using in the brood box at a later stage. If I only have two hives, then I might not have a need for putting them in the brood box immediately? So can I sit around for a bit and still be good later?
Yes I would still draw them in the honey super. Haven't used the ceracell ones but plastic is plastic. Wooden frames with wax foundation might be better for you to start in the brood box. A frame used in the brood box would only be good for a few years as the cells decrease in size every time a bee uses the cell. Old frames also tend to harbour disease. They can be used indefinitely for honey frames.
@@mt.corambaapiculture how do you make a call on when a sticky or brood frame is no longer a viable option for the brood box? How do you tell the cells are too small or other indicators?
