Lets make a device that makes your inverter or charger wireless. On the CHEAP!

ESP8266 based WiFi interface for Voltronic Axpert MppSolar PIP inverters.
Current support is the inverters with the MPI protocol. PCM60x and or PIP. Note that the PIP dont have all code to send to MQTT.

thank you for this video. i was able to used it to my Xtra Power Inverter. the inverter is working on PCM but have to use the PIP code to publish inverter information. Hopefully there is a tutorial on how to aggregate or sum those information daily, monthly etc. :)

So Mpp Solar HV2-5048 is using P18 protocol. I had to code from scratch not being a programmer, it took a while. I got this working and setting commands work as well. Thank you, for the idea

@@jenschristensen8363 i don't understand the question well - i have not changed the protocol. I have written my own code for d1 mini using the idea from this video. Because that particular protocol (P18) my inverter is using was not available in the code written by the author of this video

I'm looking for this to work with a growatt min. Inverter. But I was not looking for mqqt, but gagues. I was looking at the code for the ads1115 which is fine but had trouble shifting the data over. That uses JSON but for some reason the strong format (which I had to change) wouldn't work (getreadings) It was to monitor solar strings individually. It would be easy to port to battery and inverter output. But data exchange.. I2c....

Dear sir i M stuck at both lights on ( red and green) rs232 to ttl converter not connecting to inverter. I have checked all the connections. Everything is ok but not connecting to inverter. Voltronic Power Axpert VM3 inverter.

Where would i go in those git hub files to change the serial port command set? I have a Steca, but it uses many of the same codes, just for different functions. I thought I would see at least outlandish values, but I get 0 for every field. I even reversed the tx and rx just in case. The same pinout on a usb to serial works fine, so it's not the cable...I fear it's the operator. There are values in Wifi topic, but every other topic is blank. I tried MPI and PIP. No change.

I think we can't simultaneously connect USB connection with and Rs232 connection with inverter, as Nodemcu has same UART I believe, but you have not used software serial library instead?

No you cant use USB and RX/TX at same time on the esp8266 no. Its either or and its described in the video as well. I do that because running software serial towards this inverters is so unstable due to the libs. Its crashes to much. On the ESP32 though this can be remade but on other hand i have no use having to use the usb at same time as its connected to the modbus adaptor.

Seems like it doesn't work with Sorotec Revo II Inverter. Too bad... Sorotec uses SolarPower and WatchPower Applications via USB Connection or RS232 to view data on computer. I did most of the parts as you mentioned in the video except for the TTL Module. I used RS232 to TTL (MAX3232 Module). It did connect to the MQTT Server well but didn't talk well to the inverter. Both the red and green LEDs are on.

IF you have a proper pip modell and the hardware/ some knowledge in programming sure! To debug you should be able to hook Up another Serial port to it. Then send me an email. Info on about page :)

Very informative. Does this setup works with with other brand of invertors aswell. I mean the pinout from the RJ45 would be same for all brands?

No they arent. The RJ45 in this case is only for the PCM60x. the device it self can be used for others that do serial and if you have the protocol.

You configure to send the data to your mosquitto server. Then you set emon or node to listen to Them. You configure the topic it sends to in the web ui

I am going the other way because I do not use wireless. I use a sol-ark inverter that only has a wireless dongle connected to a serial port. Is there anyway to connect an internet cable to that serial interface? I was thinking to sent the data from inverter, somehow to Grafana or Home-assistant but the inverter company does not offer offer any support on that on that and they only have the wireless connection that sends data to a server in China.. They just provided me with the mod buss RTU Protocol manual. I am brand new to this and I am willing to pay you if you can offer me some direction.

what a really generous person. you made it very cheap but in market these devices cost $70+ . Little question, can our WatchPower software of inverter detect this in-network so eighter showing results in MQTTserver, we can see results in actual inverter software?

i can test PIP if you want,i have voltronic igrid 5kw 2 in paralell, pip 2,4kw low voltage solar and high voltage and 5kw high voltage solar, flashed your bin file but in mqtt config even if i set it to PIP it sends P003PS Message

What protocol does that inverter use? The device works with MPI and PCM devices and have code for PIP but its not properly verified. If you can hook up for debugging

Thank you so much for this tutorial - i've solderd everything together; TX RX RS232 and TTL is correct; in the MQTT Explorer i get Infos that the device is alive and also the variables (e.g. solar1w...) but there are no values. Can you please help me? Thanks

Then you have a problem in the com between the device and the inverter. Either wrong protocol or its wrongly connected.

The data is always returned as string since its serial. Just convert it from string to INT instead if you need it like that.

Exactly what I've been looking for. I have the MPI 10 kw hybrid model and i gave the manufacturer SNMP card a try which died in a month. Awfull. Did you get this to work with your MPI inverter? Ive built this device and it connects to the inverter. I get the green light. In Mqtt explorer it reads all values as zero. I think it might have to do something with the communications protocol. In the Mqtt setting i choose MPI. Ive tried with the other two options and I get similar results.

I have been running it solid since the start without issues. If you dont get data back that means you dont get answer from the inverter. Its important to connect the board that converts the signal from RS232 to the 485 that the inverter uses. If you have the knowledge you can hook up and debug the data on the tx2 port.

Another unrelated question - how have you connected your MPI 10K? Is your grid connected to the red ac grid connector and your house to the black ac output connector? Are you using it to export to the grid at all? I am using grid tie with backup (ii) mode but it seems to be using some grid power when solar is available doesn't make sense

Its not compiled for the 32. You have to recompile it and of course recode it.

@@DIYTechRepairs I have had the PCM up and running for a few weeks now working perfectly, i have tried the PIP however i am getting no output over mqtt, i have looked through the source and it appears the PIP section is missing with a message saying "This one is not done..."
