Something I noticed about stings I have purchased from 3Rivers, whoever makes their strings starts that top nail or over wrap by feeding the tag end through the string first. Brilliant idea you may try it. Still best string making video I have seen 👍

Great video! I've saved this to my playlist to watch again for the details. I started making my own strings out of B55 for my old Grizzly recurve and they are soooo smooth and silent to shoot which I value a lot. Knowing I can make a string for any bow now is a total game changer for me. It's also great to be self sufficient - I basically have enough material now for about 50 strings.

yep its a great skill to know and you can customize your strings your own way.

Interesting I’d like to get into that, but that famished twist on the end I can’t quite yet just yet I guess I need to watch your video again I appreciate your time you took the show. Thanks I’m a Boyer and I never have made my own strings before so I need to get into that because a lot of stuff I’m making I can’t find strings for especially the automatic crossbow that I making that shoots like a machine gun. Yes I’m an inventor. Also, I already have an auto four that I use to deer hunt with, but I would like to get a shooter anyway I’m crazy aboutbout bows and that’s all kinds of bows. Recurve long bows, crossbows any kind of bow especially the new stuff that we travel over 500 ft./s. Yeah I’m into that too.. anyway, thank you for your time Michael Cartwright, a.k.a. Wildman Monk .😊😉⚔️⚔️⚔️

sounds like you make some pretty awesome stuff! once you get the twist down the strings get easy to make and you will be able to whip one up in a few mins.

I would encourage the use of string maker's wax especially for those new to string making. It is stickier and holds thing where you put them. When using it I don't have to use clamps of strings. I have made it a couple of different ways. Bee's wax and a toilet bowl ring. Or bee's was with an oil (olive works) softener and some powered rosin (cut open a rosin sports bag).

One string maker I use is Krammer Ammons, some of his channel and his company's channel on RU-vid are hard to watch but most of them are fine. I also like he makes products of leather for his archery use even if I do not use them. That is where my latest strings came from for people. The other strings I got are from others including the one for my latest bow but will get a string from Krammer Ammons for my hunting bow when needed.

I have an ASS or American Style Shortbow, it is called the Youth Longbow from GREAT PLAINS TRADITIONAL BOW COMPANY hickory 45 pounds, probably should have used a heavier wood/wood set from the adult bows but I can get a strap on stabilizer/bowfishing insert for my bow and a weight system that goes into the slot to get a heavier bow if I find this bow too light. I needed a bow for my 24--24.5 inch (bow style, riser, and handle/grip dependent) and this bow from GREAT PLAINS TRADITIONAL BOW COMPANY fit the bill and was less then the least expensive Bear model. To most people an ASS bow would be a bow 56 inches or less in the ASL style. This bow from GREAT PLAINS TRADITIONAL BOW COMPANY I plan for this youth bow to be my eventual Hunting bow.
@tradbowpodcast
@tradbowpodcast Год назад
I was on the fence about going to an asl. But I figured so many people love them I could buy one, try it and if I didn't like it could sell it with out a problem. I loved it and won't go back. I will shoot a hill style bow for the rest of my life

@@tradbowpodcast I had got an ASL bow 🏹 by mistake off e--Bay, the all fiberglass dual sided bow 🏹 that was 60 inches long and 36 pounds though only 34--45 pounds for me. The bow 🏹 had a notched grip/handle with flat finger end, the type I like most on both duel sided bows 🏹 and longbows 🏹, not really a fan of the bulge grips/handles or the bulge notched grip/handles though the bulge grips/handles ai not bad. That bow 🏹 helped me think that longbows 🏹 are not hard to use like I had thought before mainly because of seeing a few people say how specific the persons grip and arm has to be with a longbow 🏹 and turns out I was already doing that style of grip as close as I could due to the handle shape and then the arm with recurve bows 🏹 due to my size.

@@tradbowpodcast Agreed on the way RU-vid hides that stuff, another way to do this is new video and then in the description & comments put a link to the new video in there telling people to go to the links below when the time in video is ready.

With pre made strings what loop do you put on the bottom? I usually put the lower string as the smaller loop unless the serving said otherwise as the big loop on top is easier to put on the string and bottom is put on before stringing up the bow.
@tradbowpodcast
@tradbowpodcast Год назад
The small loop goes on the bottom and the big loop on the top. The big loop is so it can slide down the limb when un strung

I assemble a lot of arrows but not familiar with the science of string making. So the Dacron B-50 standard string making material is not longer available? If so, what standard bow string material (not fast-flight) replaced it? I own several recurves and longbows and I don't think any of them are rated for fast-flight due to their age. I remember when fast light strings came out, but I don't think their speed increase was that significant and they were louder and could destroy a bow if you had a nock fracture for example that caused a dry fire.
@tradbowpodcast
@tradbowpodcast Год назад
the new dacron that replaced b50 is called b55. Its all I use. I dont shoot fast flight even though all my bow can shoot it. I love dacron. b55 is the darcon thats availble today. its like b50 but a little tougher and better stretch resistance, but still dacron.
@caseysmith544
@caseysmith544 Год назад
BCY B-55 or Dacron B-55 has now replaced the Dacron B-50. BCY B-55 is the same as Dacron B-55 with a tiny bit better wear due to lower stretch but not a fast flight and all this string type is, is just a more durable Dacron B-50 being that Dacon version is harder to find currently with less companies making it all have switched to a BCY type B-55 except the current Dacron company. Some old bows that handle a no longer made D-77 string first made in 1976, people have been known to make a 50/50 B-55 and D-97 hybrid string often in some kind of twist pattern with one color as one type and the other color as the other type of string but most who want a slightly faster string will just use the BCY B-55 in the endless loop design.
