Just a note that (in Oct. 2021) the brushless Makita 1/4" driver is available in Canada as model Makita DF032DZ and as a kit with two 1.5Ah batteries and charger as model DF032DSYE.

I have this as well as the 18v version. They are basically the same motor and gearbox to the 12v brushless drill and the 18v being the same the 18v subcompact brushless drill. I am an ikea and other flatpack installer and as much as i love impact drivers. They are often too violent for that stuff. Plus in a customers home the sound these make is sooo much more acceptable than hours of impact driver noise. But you still get the compact size and 1/4" chuck

Wow! That Makita is a beast! I have several 12 volt screwdrivers. The Hilti is my favorite. I have 2 Milwaukee’s the 1 speed and the newer 2 speed. All are capable tools. My 2nd favorite is a Makita that is 10.8 volt white model that is over 10 years old and works like a charm. It’s amazing how the 12 volt line has evolved. Thx for the informative video

Thanks for the test on this one! Funny story about this driver; it's the same motor and body as the one on the makita FD07R1, and on the cover of the FD07R1's manual (you can look up "makita FD07R1 manual" online and still see it on the pdf from makita's site) is the FD08, which is the driver you're testing in this video. After all that, why the FD08 never was officially released in the states, I have no idea. But if it had, I'd still have makita tools in my workshop. These 12v screwdrivers are my favorite tools too! I've used a few looking for my "perfect" driver. I'll be picking up the dewalt soon. When shopping for the bosch and milwaukee, keep in mind milwaukee makes two models of their screwdriver, one fuel brushless and one brushed. And bosch just released the GSR12V-300HX late last year. That's the one I currently favor. The milwaukee fuel is pretty beastly, but it's heavy. Looking forward to the shootout!

Bosch has an updated brushless screwdriver; GSR12V-300HX. It's a bit more powerful than the PS22 and has rubber grips on the handle now. The chuck is a bit different too; it's push to insert/release instead of pull, and there's a lot less wobble than the PS22.

Hey Dave! Check out the balance on that Makita! Ha ha never fell off your bench! I have to agree with you on the quick connect collet, but with a caveat. I have Never had an issue with a non quick connect collet. I believe they hold better as well. Just look at the issues with the Gen3 Milwaukee Impact. Think about it averybody, you always have to pull the collet to release the bit you just used, so get a good workflow and as you take the previous bit out, you just snap in the next one, too easy! ☺️ I believe that noise was from the gear selector? A tip to all; when you change gears, lightly hit the trigger, before going full bore. This helps the newly selected gear position. Makitas of late seem to have a slightly sloppy gear change mechanism? Anyways, good content Dave. Stay safe and Healthy! 👍😁🇺🇸

This is also my favorite tool....crazy. I prefer 12V also. I have found recently, a Makita LXT model of this in 18V as well. I have the 12V Dewalt DCF601 and absolutely adore it. I even bought another to have as a backup lol, still in box! But for some reason I wanna try the Makita also lol. But I don't have any CXT stuff, and don't want another charger (too many already) So I may pick up the 18V LXT model : Makita DDF083Z. So strange these are my favorites also lol They're just so useful. Enough power when you need it for general things, but atleast on the Dewalt, a nice clutch for a soft touch as well :)

@@bigshoots1181 In Canada I have had luck with many, but prefer the following for fast delivery to the west coast (I live in San Francisco): BC Fasteners, in British Columbia, TEGs Tools in Ontario, and Elite Tools in Quebec. I've ordered over the years from about 5 others, all with success - the above 3 seem to get to California quicker. As an added bonus, customer service with Canadian retailers, I find, is much easier than with the big tool resellers in California.

FYI, this driver is available in Canada - I'm looking at mine right now :-). Silly prices on amazon.ca but Makita dealers can order the tool in from Makita Canada and then ship to the USA - for example, bcfasteners.com/shop/makita-df032dz-14-hex-12v-drill-driver-with-brushless-motor-tool-only/ As an aside, unlike a lot of USA kits, the kit comes with two 1.5AHr batteries that do NOT have a battery gauge. For the comparisons against Hilti, etc., I'm looking forward to them, but I'm not expecting the Makita to win any performance categories - but I am expecting it to be the smallest and lightest!

@ManCaverTools 3 года назад
this is just a 12v screwdriver with a 1/4 collit. and impact driver will uses an rotating anvil and hammer to drive the screws in
@zuperdee
@zuperdee 3 года назад
The difference is: An impact driver has a rotating anvil that delivers rotational hammer blows to increase the torque output, often into the 1000’s of inch-pounds, whereas this tool does not have that. This tool is basically like a drill with a 1/4 hex collet in place of the chuck. Why this instead of an impact driver? Simple: This tool has a clutch, and is thus MUCH better suited to driving fasteners into delicate workpieces where fine torque control is more important than sheer brute force.
