Hi. Thank you for the review. Can you tell the difference between the black Makita that you are reviewing and the blue version called DTM 52?
@ToolsWithAdrius
@ToolsWithAdrius 2 года назад
Hi there Jens! I did some research and it seems like the DTM52 and the XMT04ZB are very similar. It appears that the DTM52 is the international version of the tool. This website briefly discusses the similarities between the two: toolguyd.com/makita-cordless-multi-tool-starlock-compatible-xmt04/

@@ToolsWithAdrius thanks. Is a non sub compact going to come out or is this the model we get and I should pull the trigger.

Hi there Sean! I have not heard anything about a new full-size OMT coming from Makita. With how well the sub-compact performs, I think you'd be fine buying and using it!

Why does the USA only have this black model while other countries get blue.
@ToolsWithAdrius
@ToolsWithAdrius 2 года назад
I'm not sure exactly why, but Makita does some funky stuff with certain colors only for certain regions. For example, I believe you can only get their purple impact drivers in Japan.

I hate that it has a small pin to loose in the middle of a job. My old rigid job max also has a couple small parts to lose. I wish they could come up with a better design with no loose parts.
@Smokeyr67
@Smokeyr67 2 года назад
Every design is a compromise, on this one it’s the pin. I don’t know how you’d lose it unless your changing blades while swinging on a trapeze, but hey, someone’s going to try it😄
@whatfreedom7
@whatfreedom7 2 года назад
@@Smokeyr67 well yeah you could be working on a trapeze up high and drop it or working outside in the grass and drop it. If it can be dropped it can get lost.
@Smokeyr67
@Smokeyr67 2 года назад
@@whatfreedom7 you could always solder on a retaining cord if your prone to losing important bits of kit, or buy a spare pin, or just be careful. Honestly I’m more annoyed about the limited amount of “star lock” blades that fit it, and the price of them!

Anyone know why Makita doesn't include the little urethane bumper cylinders in the battery hatch like they do for all their other tools? There are receptors for it, but neither my tool nor this one have any in the slots.

Fein has been making the best multi tools for 20 years now, but this one is probably just as good. It’s by far the best you can buy from the big box stores.

Recommended for DIY/homeowners? Is an oscillating tool a must have or wait til later item?
@ToolsWithAdrius
@ToolsWithAdrius 2 года назад
I absolutely recommend this for homeowners. Having an oscillating tool comes in handy so often, I've found. If you need to get into places where a regular saw can't or won't do the trick, an OMT is fantastic!

@@ToolsWithAdrius can’t see myself upgrading anytime soon. I’m late to the game of GOOD tools. Biggest reason I started upgrading was my then, boss, had makita. So I went with that! Love them! And my previous drill was just worthless. But now with 2 tools and 2 batteries! I feel fairly invested 😂 the 13 models drill and impact is all I have so far.

That's a good idea for blade lock but the normal quick realise one is fast enough.
@ToolsWithAdrius
@ToolsWithAdrius 2 года назад
Definitely not a huge speed savings to go with Starlock, but a very secure way to hold a blade in place!
