Glad to see you back. I have the same saw at least as near as I can tell though mine is 6+ years old and was part of a kit containing a drill and flash light. Perfect for my needs and doesn't see the light of day for months on end. The drill, however, is out an handy as I use it frequently. I bit the bullet and bought 2 Li batteries to replace the originals and never looked back!

Thanks Peter. That's the marketing ploy with all manufacturers of cordless tools, the batteries are relatively expensive, but are outlived by the machines which are relatively cheap; so for most people once you've invested in a few batteries you're likely to remain brand loyal.

Good to see you back with another video! Thanks for the run through of the Makita saw, looks like a nice saw and typically good Makita (I'm also a fan of the kit) and made short work of the old door. Interesting that the saw has the blade on the left hand of the machine and meaning that if your right handed you have the blade much closer to your body and in the path of the saw dust than if the blade was on the right but obviously depending on the situation it can be an advantage. Having a quick look online seems that most of the big brands offer right and left handed options in their ranges - not something I'd noticed before. Thanks again and hope to see another video soon! Cheers

Thank you. I used a Makita LXT saw at work a while ago and caught myself putting my hand on top of the blade housing and I couldn't work out why. I only realised that the blade was on the opposite side when I watched myself in the clip of me with my old corded saw holding the motor!

@@ShedTV If your a right handed person would you say it’s safer practice to have the blade on the right side. Is there any advantages or disadvantages in either case ?. Great vid and I like the fact your a DIYer and not a salesman unlike some vids 👍
@ShedTV
@ShedTV 3 года назад
@@steclaire1898 Thanks. I'm not really sure about the whole left/right thing. All I know is that I keep myself to the side of the saw, far enough to avoid injury and close enough to be in control. Bit like horses and cattle; you make sure you're not in kicking range!

Love your review and attitude towards being a hobbiest.. I had one of these saws in the past and loved it. The plastic guard never broke even under pieces getting jammed in there from time to time. The base is better designed on this model than the brushless variant though brushless tools are desired. I never had to change carbon brushes in years of operation. Very good saw.

my man, how will you compare this to the brushless version? I've read/heard that the burshless are more efficient on power consumpion, powerdelivery ....
@onepercentile
@onepercentile 10 месяцев назад
@@ewok007 Brushless is better in every way except when Makita puts it on a loose fence assembly. In that case I went brushed type for a tighter fence action. Normally I buy brushless because I want longer run time, more power, and minimzing worn brushes holding up a job until replaced. You're definitely right.. As for working time on the carbon brushed model I think I cut a stack of 8 doorskin 4x8' sheets of plywood into 10 equal sections and had 35% left on a 3.0Ah battery. Not bad. I also like the compactness of the carbon brush model. When Makita comes out with a compact brushless with tight working fence mechanics I'll be all over it. Sawdust on!

Top review! Clear and thorough. You certainly put that wee rip snorter through its paces with that 35 mm door. I've seen this saw for as little as 90 quid - quite a bit cheaper than its brushless counterpart - and I was not sure which one to go for. Judging by your demo, being older, brushed technology doesn't seem to mean less potent - maybe just shorter battery life. Thanks for taking the time to post this very helpful review. 👍
@ShedTV
@ShedTV 2 года назад
Thank you. I will add that since making this video I've used the DSS610, which is basically the same unit but with an electronic brake which stops the blade when you release the trigger. It felt more controlled and I think it's worth the extra few quid. As for brushless saws, I have no experience, although I have used other Makita brushless tools and found them generally to have more torque than their brushed bretheren. All at greater cost though; you pays your money and you takes your choice.

@@ShedTV Yes, I looked at that model as well. I'd have to agree with you regarding the brake being worth the extra. On top of that, it has a blower and an LED to clear and illuminate the cut line. Cheers

Thanks. It's done well, mainly working with 24mm ply and a lot of plunge cuts. I also used a mate's DSS610, which I think despite being a bit more expensive is the better tool. It's got an electronic brake which instantly stops the blade, LED and blower. Amazon have got them for £104.

I recently bought this circular saw and your video was just what I wanted to help me be sure I knew what I was doing. Thank you for taking the time to run through this review and test runs. One thing I couldn't work out was what the black slider is on the main body behind where the fence goes in. It slides towards the front and back but it's not clear what does. Can anyone tell me what it's for?
@ShedTV
@ShedTV Год назад
Thanks. The slider you refer to is to lock the blade in place to enable you to replace it. When you push it in the blade is unable to rotate and you can then use your allen key to unscrew the blade without it turning.
