I just Binge watched all of your channel in a day, its unbelievable how good your channel is. Videos are very informative, and in my opinion what makes your channel stands out is your choice of lighting. Very very underrated channel, S tier level on par with Project Farm.

It used to be that a lot of Japanese products, especially kitchen appliances, stereos, game consoles, shavers and the like would have no problem with US power, and were engineered so one power supply could accommodate the varying frequency in Japan, and also the higher voltage of US electric. 1) there is an allowable tolerance in US it's ~108-125v, but even so, almost all appliances will deal with significantly lower voltage to accommodate homes which are further from the transformer. No idea about Japan's tolerances. 2) it's less expensive to make one power supply board and design it to cover three territories than to maintain two separate SKUs. I doubt it would ever be a problem.
@mvevitsis
@mvevitsis 4 месяца назад
The tolerance is 90-110v. When the US was 110v it wasn't an issue and the systems were basically intercompatible, but the nominal voltage in North America was increased to 120v, so if his house is running hot it could affect more sensitive devices. These chargers are pretty resilient though and I've yet to break one.

Us voltage is usually 120, but used to be 110, and has a 5% variance. Japan uses 100v with generally the same variance. So that charger is built for 105v. If 10 volts was an issue than older us appliances would not work as they were built for 105-115v. The charger is fine and will operate properly in the US. You're being ridiculous

It is switching power supply. I am sure it'll even work in 240V network.

They don’t ship batteries and chargers to Australia anymore from Japan so I found an eBay seller from Japan who sourced the case and green impact driver for me, and I just bought the charger and battery here in Australia. Thanks for the video. I collected lots of tools because of you.

You can buy the plastic cases empty, that's what I did and transferred everything over. As for the 100v charger, it's fine. It will have slightly reduced service life due to the extra load on the components (especially capacitors) but I've used my Japanese 18v chargers for years and they all still work. Since they're easily replaceable I don't bother with a step down. I use step downs on valuable products like AV equipment, or stuff that actually generates heat like kitchen gadgets (for these, overvolting can throw off your cooking temp). The Japanese charger is designed for 90-110V, check your actual house voltage but you're likely only putting in an extra 10-15v or so into the AC to DC rectifier. It's not going to kill it anytime soon.

This is SWITCHING PSU!!! You can disassemble the charger and look at the input condensers. I'm pretty sure they are at least 400V, and suitable for 240V.
@mvevitsis
@mvevitsis 3 месяца назад
@@TheGrantourismo the voltage rating on the caps doesn't mean anything, it isn't necessarily a switching PSU. Depends how it's wired.

I use my JDM charger for my 10.8v Makita impact driver in Australia where we have 240v and a whole different plug type. Its no problem...providing you have a Step Down Transformer that transforms 240-110v and accepts Japanese and American plugs. While I bought it for something else, it means at home I can use the 110v JDM chargers safely. Works GREAT!! "IF" I lived in the US I'd have ZERO concern using the Japanese charger, the small difference in volts is WELL within the tolerance of the charger. Throwing that charger away is based off unfounded concern. I get that, but in reality it would be safe and fine.

Cool video as always. What i not found yet is a good comparison between the pen driver and the pen impact. Tightening torque, breaking torque for example.

I own these tools, 2 white impacts and 1 blue driver. They are great and I only had one battery of six, 2 per kit go bad. They were purchased well over 15yrs ago and used often. Good solid tools.

I imported the Japanese impact pen driver in the video, with the same kit, in OD green. I use the charger in the US no problems. I later purchased a bare pen drill, US spec. I use it with the extra JDM battery. No problems charging or holding a charge after over a year.

I've actually used this 100v charger with 130v for over two years now. I could have bought a converter which is relatively cheap but since it did not get hot I just left it as is. This is wrong but I use it at work and charge on a concrete table and unplug after use. Battery lasts a long time, charges quickly and I have two.

Likely seeing the tolerance range in the cells more than differences between the chargers with these comparisons. Agree it's safest to only use the charger intended for the country you're living in.

Very cool! Wondering if you might test out the Panasonic driver and impact driver EZ7521LA2S-B in this stick format. I've been using my 15 year old Panasonic 3.6V stick driver for almost everything including cel phones its just that amazing and looking at the new ones if it fail one day.

I bought a 12V drill (FD01) and impact driver (DT01) kit at HD Canada years ago. It came in a nice metal case with two batteries and a flashlight (LM01). The DC10WB charger that was in the kit shows 7.2V-10.8V / 12V on the label. Right after a full charge the batteries are showing 11.6V and 11.7V. The case of the charger is black. Looking up this charger at HD Canada it's now teal. Does Vessel make Robertson bits with the 13mm anvil?

I'm wondering about full charging to 100% on lithium or to 80 to 90% to increase longevity. On cellphones, some people say not to always charge to 100% all the time. Not sure....🤔 whether 100vac or 110vac makes a difference, I say no because your household voltage can vary throughout the day. It would be curious to see what the circuit differences are between them.

I purchased the kit from Amazon UK and the bare tool from Amazon Japan. I love the impacts but won't be getting the pen driver, I think a manual screwdriver along side this impact and a full size one is ideal.

Why do US plug have a designated hot and neutral pins on alternating current?
@pubcollize
@pubcollize 4 месяца назад
I'm not an electchicken so I can't explain this, but there's actual meaning to which pin is hot and which is neutral. Many mains plugs and sockets standards require hot and neutral to be matched correctly, even if the plug itself is completely flippable the wiring of both the plug and the socket is required to be in a specific order.
@TheGrantourismo
@TheGrantourismo 3 месяца назад
Because in one-phase AC network one pin is neutral and another one phase. Some problems with junior school problems?
@wytze01

@@TheGrantourismo it doesn't matter which pin goes where because the current it alternating. So why make it a one way fit
