Imagine being a student at Shujin, seeing the Student Council President running around the halls like that.

But you see, her drifting down the hallway is simply an excellent form of foreshadowing for her persona, later revealed in this arc to take the form of a bike. Truly an inspired choice

Fun fact: this can also happen in the alleys on kichioji (her AI tells her to not go to dark scary places.)

What's also funny is that she looked like she was running for the Emergency Exit. She also looked like she somehow lost Joker and is looking down the halls frantically for him lol. This is why we love Makoto.

Makoto : Oh no he head into the bathroom. Would people think that I'm a pervert if they found out I'm following him into the toilet. *Run away in embarassment* But I need o follow him to know the truth *run back* No I can't do it after all! *Run to the stairs* B-but, I've followed him this far... *Return yet again* I will just walk around until he finish.

This isn't the game AI freaking out , this is actually Makoto freaking out ... I can so imagine her train of thought at that moment : " okay , so where exactly is he going ? I should follow-OH GOD I WAS ABOUT TO GO INTO THE BOYS RESTROOM NO NO NO !!! " then she proceeds to run to the other side of the hallway , before she starts thinking " but what if he's doing something suspicious in there ? Something that would be a damning evidence of his relation to the so-called phantom thieves ? Maybe I should sneak in just to be safe that he's not hiding anything ... " Then she approaches the restroom again , before she becomes embarrassed yet again and goes " nope ! Not happening ! I can't do it ! I'll just wait for him outside !!! " And walks away .

makoto just casually following you around is easily one of the funniest things i've seen in a game... let alone seeing her run away from the bathroom after realizing she almost followed him there LMFAOOOO

Makoto decided "getting in some light cardio while reading" was easier to explain than justifying why the student council president is loitering outside the men's room for second year students.

Same thing happens when you enter an alley in Kichijoji. Idk but for some reason she isnt allowed to enter the alleys and just runs around outside.

I think this means that the game puts joker out of bounds while he is in the bathroom so that there isn’t any chances for the player to see joker anywhere else (to prevent ruining the immersion) and the ai for makato is attempting to find a way to where he is.

Fun fact a lot of times games won’t delete character models. They’ll simply teleport them out of bounds. In some games you can even find entire levels in the out of bounds of other levels. The reason Makoto’s AI could be running at the wall isn’t because she’s glitched per say but because that’s just we’re joker’s character model is stored when he enters the bathroom. In other words Makoto is so strong she can see through the fabric of reality. There is no escaping once she decides to stalk you. Of course this isn’t always the case and she could really just be trying to find a model the game actually deleted but it’s a lot more fun to imagine Makoto as an all knowing god.

She literally follows you all the time but when you go to the bathroom he says: nope i'm not going there

I'll be honest, years of seeing buggy games made me fully believe that Makoto was about to just run through the emergency exit door and keep on going.

Ha ha that's funny. But I still think it's cute how she thinks hiding her face in a book makes her Solid Snake level stealthy she should try a cardboard box instead don't you think 😅 She is my second favourite girl after Futaba but she was my first pick until Futaba made me her key item.

I love how obvious they make it look that she's tailing you Like I'm really supposed to believe the student council president reads Shonen Jump in her free time?

This is a simple and hillarious feature, add so much depth to the character, and makes the world much livelier.

Similar thing happened on the first trip with Ryuji to Kichijoji, on the PC a few days ago. I found Makoto and talked to her, then went around with the quest like talking to the information counter. Makoto started running around the street, I guess the AI couldn't register where Joker was during an interaction.

I somehow never noticed her doing this in the game

She does this in Kichijoji when you first go there. If you notice her following you while you're doing the slow walk and then start to run, she'll just sprint away

Bro same shit happens when I got the game a while ago, I didn't know bout the bathroom thing and didn't know she was staking me so when I went in I see her go to the entrance of the bathroom and back down the hall multiple times, funniest shit I seen

I didn't even know that this even happened in the game. This is some funny ass shit right here. It even further cements that Makoto here is not fooling anyone with that pretending to read a book mentality. Also Makoto has gone plaid.

My guess is to why this happens is that it notices that joked unloadad from the map when he entered the bathroom, so she started walking to her home point, where she first spawns in, but when that was blocked off, she went to the last place the player was, at the bathrooms to check, and when that didnt work it restarted the process

What I can tell is happening is the ai is trying to find is trying to respawn goes back to the door it spawned it there's no player to follow so it just goes back to default but it can't so it further freaks trying to path it's way back to where it spawns behind the door

As glitchy as this is I can totally see her doing some stupid shit like this because she doesn't want to wait outside the bathroom to look creepy

The earliest I encountered her doing this was 5/23, but she only shows up in the first floor

I assume this happens because when you enter the bathroom Joker gets moved somewhere randomly outside the play space. So the Makoto AI is trying to follow you somewhere it can’t get to

The game that keeps on giving

it looks like an AI bug. The way she turns around its like the AI is covering the entire area trying to search for the player to be in like a 2m radius from him/her. Because you have left the area thats outside its range the AI is basically saying 'finding player. Go to - X. Finding player. Go to Y. And its just repeating. If the devs actually covered this they could have had her nearly follow him in and have an animation where she freaks out and shes a 180, maybe nearly drop her manga and find around the bend and wait for the player to come back in its path again

Hypothesis: Atlus planned for that walk cycle to be a thing, but probably forgot about it. I only say this because it seems like she walks the same path up and down the hallway, just with a lot of jank.

I did this in my 2nd playthrough to see if she would have any unique dialogue or animation. I was not expecting her to start running laps.
