Dionne Smith I understand Maks can be straightforward. That is everyone's right ! However that is something admirable & respectable ONLY when it's done tastefully & with TACT! Clearly, referring to DWTS as his show was not a mistake !!! He's apologizing bcoz his statement made him look bad! LOL;)
Chris Davis I mean obviously its in any proffession in life. if you are in good terms with your boss you'll get better oportunities n work. but its still bitter of maks to say that Derek gets better partners to end up winning with. No derek are better choreographer n brings out the best from his partners strengths. forget derek same could be said about Val he gets young n good partners as well. he gave maryl highest scores on their switch up week with argentine tango than maks got w maryl that far up to that week. Val has better teaching technic and strict during rehearsals and serious about details. Where as maks not so much.. he got lucky with maryl.. first win of 13 seasons... uhm ok. Maks is a hot head strong opinionated that doesnt get along with judges at all.. the rest of pros dont ill talk to judges like he does
@@emyf9197 Derek also had millions of girls in love with him who kept voting for him no matter who his partner was. For years I would see comments on social media going "remember we need to vote for Derek he can't go home" no matter who his partner was. Derek is a great choreographer and dancer, but thats not the only reason he has 6 mirror balls
Max gets a lot of hate but at least he says his opinion and what he said about Derek was true Derek has so many good partners and has won lots of seasons so I can see why he agrees with the Judges. Even though Derek is great max is like half right but then again the judges have to speak the truth on the dance and to be honest I didn't like that dance either but do you think the judges would say they hated the dance to Derek ?
Averie Wehde he's right, part of the reason I stopped watching was how disrespectful the judges where to the dancer, your talking about people who have never done dancing competition before let alone put themselves out for all to see, you could see how hurtful some of those comments made by the judges where to them, Max stands up for his partners. On the Derek part yes it seemed he always got the ones that would have the skills to dance and the judges where always nicer in their comments to him and his partner. But I will say the best two partners Max had where Mel B and Meryl Davis.
I miss this Max! When he was saying how he really felt and what he believed it stirred things up. Made the show alot more interesting! It was true what Max said about Derek Hough. Derek was always given the celebrities who danced very well. I liked Derek, but I don't think that was fair for the other male pros.
Len thinks that because he's been in the business a long time that he always knows what's best. All those people are professional dancers. Trained just like they are. Len thinks he can say anything he wants and get away with it even if it is disrespectful and expects for them not to defend themselves..

I totally agree with him. Sometimes the judges are a little harsh on the way they judge saying things they think would be funny but can be a bit downgrading or hurt someone. Especially coming from Len, you can say you weren't feeling the dance and can give a low score without putting all the extra put downs in there. It's gonna bother someone even more if this is their life and take it very seriously, not just on the show but outside the show. Constructive criticism is fine too but put downs are not okay. Also heck no nobody is gonna take up for him because they don't wanna put their job on the line.
You go Max! If it weren't for the professional dance team, the judges would be out of a job...they need to learn to choose their words a little more carefully... ESPECIALLY Len!👵🏻
You are a great dancer; and you put a lot of work into it. I like your dance that you did as Elvis the best. I think you are a nice Gentleman and you love your parents. I sure miss my parents as I had a good relationship with them.
kimberly nivert I love Maks and Val...they are so honest, so passionate..they came from nothing and became stars. Imagine if we spoiled Americans, were censored, hungry...etc...it is something to consider that immigrants come here and get great success...and Americans continue to fail and cry...not a blanket statement, surely there are exceptions.
Maks is one of the best and the show wouldn't be the same without him . He is entitled to his opinion and standing up for his partner. The judges can be very critical and should choose their words more careful.
I am old enough to be Maks Mom . I am old school in many ways. I agree with what Maks said here. From the beginning of the show, Maks was my favorite dancer So I paid close attention when it came to him . Many times I think they under scored who he danced with because some had attitudes with Maks. And when they would under score his partner you could see his disgust because he knew it was not a fair score. He is also right, when he felt that the judges were saying mean things, to the people that were learning to dance. They never had to be so insulting as they were many times', to the people learning to dance and giving it all their heart and soul. His frustration, was a built up of all of those times and insults that were said. As for Maks saying this is my show, I am old enough to have worked with people from other country's and they do not always express them self's in the way we who were born here Americans do. His show, I knew what he meant. His show, meant that the show meant the world to him His show, he meant he had his heart and soul in that show. I am so glad that he has done so so well in life, on his own with out dancing with the stars. He showed the ones who did not like him, he was not kissing their butts, for a job, he was going to stand by his word, and make it with out those insults, he had too swollow for his partners and for him self. I miss seeing him dance I really do and I thought he was the most handsome man on there. But I am so happy he has done so well in his life with out the show. God Bless him and his beautiful family always.
This is when the show was good. I have never seen this interview before with Max. Yes Len is rude and the show has run its course at this point in 2019. Maybe abc can find a good sitcom to replace it.
I think that underscores when he first met the contestants but I think he scores fairly now, once he sees their personalities, passion, and actual talent.
I actually agree with Len's critiques most of the time. I don't agree with some of his comments regarding the way some of the dancers changed the traditional ballroom dancing. I am in my sixties and enjoy watching the evolution of dance. My favorite choreographer was Mark because he was so innovative. Maks made good points. Derek was the golden boy and always got the best dancers. That was not fair. I loved Tony but he always got the worst dancers and he was such a sweet and classy man.
Len is disrespectful, he adds unnecessary insults and can't score. He needs a chill pill, he isn't God especially since he isn't going to be around for long.
Tosin Agbi, You are right. Len almost always seems to be in a bad mood. I personally think that Len needs to find a good bowel softener, because he seems to be chronically constipated. Just my opinion.
He treated it as a competition was basically told to not do that as its a show but yet len judges it like a professional dance competition. He judges non professionals by professional standards...no curve at all. On a show like this, there should be critique only, not slapping someone down because they made a mis step or not liking the dance. None of the 'stars' that are asked to do the show leave thinking that they are suddenly professional dancers after a few weeks of being on said show.
So many people watching DWS just because Max Chmerkovskyj dancing...This person have talent,not like many dancers don't have...He can tell whatever he wont,just ignore that.Willby better for everyone...Thankju.
Maks is correct, the judges are so hurtful and outright rude. Constructive criticism is helpful . To point out mistakes and make suggestive improvement, but they are out of line more than not.
I agree with Maks, he had every right to say what he did. Len was rude and disrespectful, just because he's been in that business for nearly fifty years, doesn't mean he knows everything about it. Maks was defending his partner, she was working and trying very hard to give the best possible performance she could and Len insults her. Len is a bully. Carrie says "don't be disrespectful", Maks and Hope were being disrespected.
100% agree with Maks. The judges are annoying, especially Carrie Ann. They think they’re god. They think they can say rude shit and then expect the contestants to not defend themselves. They are there to critique the dancing. That’s it. Explaining what they liked about the dance and explaining how the star can do better. There’s absolutely no need for disrespectful comments
What's sad about this was at the time he told off the judges and was defending Hope, Hope accused him of slapping her across the face in her bio. In a way, Maks defended her for nothing.
some ppl dont understand or misuse the term of freedom of speech. you're allowed to express your opinion yes but without being disrespectful.. he talks up while Len is talking and goes to argument which makes things worse for himself. let him speak to finnish n then say your opinion of your disagreement. I dont like Len either I mean he needs to retire but the man does have more experience than maks so arguing with him is pointless. just give the man an old school traditional performance in that way you end up w higher scores n everybody wins. This explains why his only good friend is tony.. Also why I like val better. he knows how Len is n doesn't go into argument w len n gives routines he knows Len will appreciate. Maks has been rude to Danicka n maryls salsa duo where she was trying to call out maks being insulting with his way of tqlking to them. In season 20 Val & rumer had gotten jazz on the song bootylicious on spring break week! Len called out for being too raunchy n it was supposed to be ballroom and not bedroom. Val went on to saying that he understands the judges critics but he was given jazz with bootylicious so it cant be expected other than raunchy on spring break themed week. Had it been maks he would be all "what do you expect jazz w that song?! a swan lake routine!?"
Max & only Max totally agree with. He is the reason I did watch the show & than Val- fantastic dancer. Those two are the best dancers the show ever had. Freedom of speech to judges - Freedom of speech to dancers. Goodman always said insulting comment.As far as I am concerned the best judge is Bruno.
Len is just lucky that most of the contestants have education, because Len is cruel and always has unnecessary comments that never helps the contest just his ego.
I feel as if both sides did somethings wrong . I mean should maks have said that? Probably not but try to see where he is coming from. However, his words gave off the wrong impression when really it's is poor choice of words. However, Maks does bring up a good point saying that the judges tend to favor a certain couple aka Derek on the show based on their dance ability. As a judge, you shouldn't show that you're biased towards another person because everyone works just as hard or their not the best dancer.
Telling Len maybe it's time to get out was extremely rude, arrogant and disrespectful! Max really showed how low class he is by not being able to handle constructive criticism from the judges whether he agrees with it or not. Max big time owed Len an apology. He appears to think he is better than everyone else. He appears to feel self-entitled and could use a reality check.
I stopped watching DWTS for the reason Maks is talking about. In essence it’s called favouritism and it’s evident the show has its favourite dancers, Derek being one of them and he and some other dancers do always get paired with the best partners.
This dancer was never able to take criticism well. That's a huge problem when you're on a competition with judges. Instead of taking the judges critiques and learning from it he always just lashed out. Imo he just wasn't right for the show.
Gotta say without Max on the 1st and following seasons.... I might have not tuned in again.... 🤥 Are you kidding ? I was hooked from day one and like most women I shed a tear when Pita snagged Max...he is just Max and has always said what he wants.... props for his support of the USA’s freedom of speech 💋
jennifer Garcia Betanzo but saying “This is MY show” was more arrogant than anything Len’s sad. Bummed he had to cross the line when he got have been in the right.
I agreed with Maks speaking up when Len started in about how long he's been in the business. Just because you've been doing something forever doesn't give you the right to puff your chest out and throw that in other people's face and think it makes you inherently better. Every pro on that show is decorated in their careers, and deserve to be respected. Maks had a woman who had never danced before and was trying to hammer stuff into her...clearly she wasn't going to turn into Mary Murphy overnight and no amount of coaching was going to make that happen.
A Note That After this tirate the judges (to this Day ) are more positive to the celebrities and the Pros. Before this episode the judges let loose with their negative criticism Now they are more positive

The best judge I have witnessed is Dame Darcy Bussell. Gutted she left SCD for personal reasons. Maybe just maybe if DWTS would offer a very generous contract, she probably would consider. Reach out to her, she was the best.
aw yh i miss her :( she would always have something positive to say... though shirley was never fond of it so i wouldn’t be surprised if her exit was partly about her... darcey’s replacement shows she was cut because of the lack of diversity

Well, the thing about it is this.....you can't talk to grown people & think they're going to sit there and take it!!!!! Len deserved it ALL & sometimes those other judges deserve it too
marie zimmerman Len is a man who tells the truth and says what he thinks. People don't like him because he doesn't sugarcoat things like everyone else does. He's there as a judge and he is a reasonable person. Not to mention that I think he's super adorable and unintentionally funny.
Is maks really that bitter n low to comment on derek getting better partners than him? well start choreographing better from your partners ability strenght n stop get on the bad side of the judges.. whats his reason of getting maryl?? an unfair compititor of the season since she's gold medalist of being flexibal while dancing n jumping on ice! dancing on wood floor is piece of cake. Maks was expressing what MANY other pros were thinking, Derek was coddled by the producers and the judges,... Treat people nice they blossom,...belittle others they turn on you
the production and judges played favourites and it always seemed to be towards derek. val's ridiculously good; look at what he did with zendaya alone. they both deserved to win.. but u know.

Len thought he was at liberty to criticize Maks. Why shouldn't he get to fire back? The judges are to judge, not insult. It's not helpful to say a dance was the worst. I do think Maks got a little carried away saying it was his show. He just meant he'd been on the show since the beginning. He was the one working directly with the celebrities. There are right and wrong ways to judge.
Judges judge! That's what they do. Macs would make better judge then dancer. By saying Derrick has better partners then him is disrespectful to his partners. Talks out of both sides of his mouth.
Len was not giving disrespectful remarks, he saw no improvement and he was being honest. If maks wanted to stand up to them he should have done a better job than being egoistic and lazy. Len was far harsher on derek for breaking rules and he stood up to him by giving quality content. And derek did not get the best partner except nicole, he just was very creative with who he got. He gave emmy worthy performances with double amputee athlete, + size women, 51 year old dancer with spinal injury. Chmerkovskiys had dancers(zendaya, heather morris) and athletes and still could not produce emmy routines. After derek left there was not one emmy nomination. Wish he would have left sooner than wasting his creative genius on people who were expecting drama. If you were a producer you are not going to waste a choreographer of Derek's calibre by giving him worst, you are going to give him atleast people who could move.
If i were on the show and saw that moment, i would have defended Carrie ann, Len and Bruno. I don't like the types of arguments. It ain't pretty and it's a bad standing that they don't want to be in.
