Today we're at the gigantic Doki Doki Flea Market in Makuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture. Makuhari is about 45mins to an hour from Tokyo station, depending on the route you take. This annual event is held over 3 days during Golden Week at the start of May. Hadn’t been before so went along without any expectations and had a fun time exploring.
Their website names it as the largest flea market in Japan, although there's also the gigantic and aptly named "Manmos (Mammoth) Flea Market" in Nagoya claiming the same title😄
My niche is Japanese traditional items, vintage/antique ceramics and home decor, however, clothes, shoes, toys etc. are plentiful at this flea should you be on the look out for those😊
Estimated prices are noted in USD($) (exchange rate in 2024) to help convert into your own currency.
Thank you so much for watching and hope you enjoy the content🥰

About me:
Hi! I’m Michelle. A half Japanese, half British Tokyoite🇯🇵🇬🇧
Aside from reselling, I am also a tour guide, therefore an avid researcher on all things Japanese.
There may be an educational element to the content at times, however, this channel is simply for light entertainment🎶
Should you require info on antique identification, please refer to an expert or specialist😊
DUE TO A HIGH VOLUME OF INQUIRIES, I AM UNABLE TO RESPOND TO SPECIFIC QUERIES REGARDING MARKETS, THRIFT SHOPS, OTHER INFO FOR YOUR JAPAN ITINERARY. This also applies to messaging on Instagram. Thanking you kindly for your understanding🙏
Hope you enjoy coming along with me to shops and markets in Tokyo, and beyond!

What a fun video! Thank you! I really liked the medicine box and the insect basket. I have the fugu sake decanter! I love using him. I like to collect vintage sake cups too. And lustreware. I LOVE Japanese lustreware. I really appreciate how you provide information about the different eras on screen. Thanks again!

Hi Jenny💕Thank you so much as always! Ooooh should've bought that Meiji period medicine box. LOVE that you own the fugu decanter and have a sake cup collection🤩Thanks again and have a great weekend!

Thank you for watching and for your comment! The JAL logo’s crane design’s pretty cool. Interestingly it was created by an ad agency in the US rather than Japan😊

Very admirable filming and buying at the same time! Sad the fugu sake dispenser had a chip but you got some lovely items (that copper tea cannister looks so modern! Love the tea pot too). Those giant inflatable 'figures'....Oh Japan, what are you like!!! 🤣

Hi Sue💕Thank you so much as always! The copper tea caddy so timeless, they still make them in a similar design😊 Hahaha those inflatables...we normalize anything by making things look cartoonish over here🤣Wishing you a fab weekend!

Thank you for another well made and informative video Michelle. A few years ago I purchased an original Yumegi Takehisa print at Oi Keiba jo flea market for 100 yen. Once, in a box of miscellaneous items, I found a valuable antique netsuke which I gave to my friend who was retiring after 30 years teaching at ISSH. I'm going to Japan in 3 weeks time so maybe I'll see you at the flea market.

Hi Heather💕Wow that's amazing you found a Takehisa print at the flea for 100yen. How funny you have an ISSH connection. I was a student there from kindergarten to the 7th grade😊Hope it 's a bit cooler for when you visit the flea in a few weeks🎶Have a lovely weekend!

Thank you so much as always for watching here and on IG!😊There's an overwhelming number of clothes and toys, but you're used to Oi Keibajyo Flea so I'm confident you'll find the antique/vintage stalls among all that!🤩Btw, it's in Japanese, but nearer the time you can buy a ticket online in advance for 100yen discount (get a QR code on your phone)✨

15:45 "new vintage ... Maybe 1990's or something like that" 😂 It's difficult to accept that the 90's are now entering the vintage category.

Great video. Do people tend to haggle like we do at carboots in the UK? 🇬🇧
@tokyotique
@tokyotique Месяц назад
Thank you! 😊Yes, so long as the price isn't super low already, some vendors are fine to haggle with. Usually better though towards the end of the market day🎶

Thank you for watching! Tend to see them more at the antique markets (the metal type) but sometimes at the fleas too. Picked up a ceramic one at Oi Racetrack Flea😊

I buy orange oil for woodworking on Amazon Japan. If you put that in the search, it’ll come up😊If you’re not keen on the smell, there are other non-orange options on there✨
